I remember the story of Saturn initially designed as a 2D machine until PS1's specs were released, at which point they added additional 'off-the-shelf' parts to compensate. I also remember SoA scrambling to develop the 32X under SoJ's orders, although SoA had to find out for themselves that the Saturn was in development in Japan.
