I couldn't find a thread for Starbreeze's The Darkness, so I thought I'd get the party started. It's a horror-themed FPS for 360, and it looks freaking sweet:

Hmmm. Riddick guys, yes? That second pic is great. This could be good...
Vin Deisel doesn't own Starbreeze. He owns Tigon. Starbreeze just developed the Riddick game. Also, this is for PS3 too.
Anyway, yeah, it looks great. I'm not familiar with the comic, but I'm sure it'll work either way with Starbreeze developing.
Fuck you very much. At least I used the simg tags.Quote:

Correct. Which was horrible.Quote:

I really don't think it looks all that great.
Definitely XBOX 1.5.
Second pic made me lol. Looks pretty cool though.
Looking at the pictures again, this game may be fucking sweet. It looks like you have some sort of tentacle powers, and can toss and grab shit at will. Look at the third pic of the car being thrown, and the last picture of the guy being impaled. Definately pure awesomeness.
I'm definitely looking forward to this. Riddick was awesome. This gets rid of my only complaint about that game: Vin Diesel's presence.
What's with European developers and New York/US settings in games lately though? I kind of wish they would make more games take place in Europe for variety's sake.
It's based on a license (a comic and an upcoming movie), so it's not like they could pick and choose the setting.
I'd recommend the first 6 or so issues of the comic, but not much past that. Garth Ennis (Preacher) co-created it and wrote the first few arcs, but left after that.
So the game would have been better without the protagonist? That makes sense.Quote:

So I imagine based on the scream shots that you don't play as Jackie Estacado aka Darkness? I basing this on the fact that the main character is hold a gun in pretty much every shot.
BTW for those who don't know The Darkness, is the natural adversary of the Witchblade.
Um, well, Estacado was a mob hitman. Usually he opted not to use the guns once he got the power, but he'd probably still have 'em on him. Plus his power only works in shadows, so he'd probably have them as a backup contingency if nothing else.Quote:

Legit point.Quote:

INSTANT PURCHASE ... HOLY SHIT!
I hope you're evil and not just some super freak on the side of good like a douchebag.
Looks cool/f'd up.
IGN actually put up impressions of this game last night, and make it sound fucking awesome. Starbreeze = win.
Has there been any details on multiplayer for this?
Tentacle rape sim. Awesome.
That looks fucking great.
or "Kingpin killed my family oh noes revenge time!"
The preview makes it sound great. Starbreeze does great shit, high hopes for this one.
The multiplayer sounds awesome... at the touch of a button, you get to change between playing a mobster (traditional FPS play style) to a Darkling (guns disabled, but you run really fast, jump really far, climb walls/ceilings, and do an insta-kill lunge attack).
Well, okay, that kind of happened in the comic, but it led more to "I can't trust anyone but myself" than "I'm going to defect to the good guys". Even when he's doing something 'good' like saving his girl or whatever, he typically accomplishes it in a vicious, sadistic way.
Looks awesome. Day one for me, and I don't do that often anymore.
41 posts and no mention of Charlie Murphy.
I disapporve.
Hot.
Oh damn, this is so a day one.
Probably gonna continue eating hearts even after the stats are full.
Oh damn.

New interview up. (I haven't watched it yet, dl'ing now)
Edit: the video is sick.
This shit is going to be incredible.
This game just looks so cool, no other way to really explain it. Looks like the game has really come together in the last couple of months.

This game is going to be so fucking awesome. I will be very surprised if it isn't.
Indeed, all I've been praying for the last months is that it don't suck on the PS3.
This might be my most wanted game of the summer.
Is anyone else pissed that this is not coming out for the pc?
I am thinking there still might be hope because Riddick was not initially announced for the pc but eventually came out as a special edition or something.
I'm pissed, simply because it would be $10-20 cheaper.
The multiplayer for this game seems to be pretty huge, so getting to play it over XBL with TNL kids > getting it cheaper for PC. In my opinion.
Damn, this comes out the same day as Overlord. Both of which look awesome, although this seems a bit more polished.
It's worse than that. 6/25-26 brings us...
The Darkness
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Overlord
Transformers (which I have my fingers crossed will be good)
New trailer.

Everything looks great, except I have one concern about the aiming. The reticule looks retarded just being a small red dot like that, and after seeing that trailer, the aiming itself looks way too loose and inaccurate. I really hope that it was just the person playing, because that's one thing I cannot tolerate in an FPS is imprecise aiming.
Looking forward this one.
Absolutely agree with you. However, it looks to me like there's either a lock-on system or huge reticle magnetism.
Edit: huh, apparently the demo was supposed to be out already but ran into problems in certification. http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/06...ets-held-back/
He's from Sony, he wouldn't know a good game if it raped his mother and called him son.
Shadowrun was decent but nowhere near $60 decent. I think the fact that Meet the Robinsons was mentioned shows whose mom needed to be raped by a good game.
I wish Shadowrun was in vein of classic games, and not fps with rpg powers. But its off topic anyways. Not worth $60 for sure.
Yeah this game looks pretty awesome. Been following it since it was backed by Majesco...glad they have it all fleshed out now.
Holy crap, nocturne. Never leave us again.
Good news, everyone!

The lazy bitches used the exact same review for the PS3 and 360 versions. I highly doubt they are identical.
edit: There is also no way those words justify a 9. This reeks of another inflated 1Up/EGM review.
Yeah, I posted the link before I read the review. I agree.
So far what I have played has been great. My only complaint to this point is that the movement of the character within the environment should be more more fluid. It feels like when you move the camera angle quickly the game has to catch up for a second. Not really lag because it doesn't cause any game play problems it is more a visual nuisance.
Overall, the games concept and delivery is excellent. Using the darkness feels superb, especially devouring the hearts of the dead to increase your power. It doesn't get much more evil than that. The berserker minion is the only one I have unlocked so far and they have been a pleasure to watch kill the hit men that attack you. The voice overs are great especially Mike Patton as The Darkness.
I don't feel ripped off in the least as a full price purchase. FYE is offering a $10 rebate on the game which if you add to the back stage pass discount (-$6) you can get it for $48 bones. Not too shabby.
Might pick this one up today if I can use the CC coupon.
Picked this up at CC earlier today, definitely worth the purchase. My only complaint thus far, about 2 hours in, is that you move pretty slow. Maybe I'm missing something (like a run button) but it's pretty noticeable at first. Other than that, great game.
I've heard alot of complaints about the run speed. No, there is no run button!
I'm liking the game thus far. Gameplay mechanics are perfect, but the graphics and awsome features makes this game a must play.
I was going to pick this up, but I'll most likely wait until it drops in price after hearing about the short single player and forgettable multiplayer. Though the single player is supposed to be great, I just can't stomach paying $60 for a 6-7 hour experience.
So is MP just vanilla death matches?
Its got some interesting modes, but the control don't lend themselves that well to mp. Single player is amazing though. I heard that it is short if you only focus on getting through the game fast, but that it's easy to lose yourself in all the side stuff you can do.
OK heres the scoop. (picked it up earlier today)
Awesome Graphics-thats a given
Some pretty good music and the Tv channels are there(but sitting through a full length movie on a screen 1/10 the size of your tv is tough...especially when its all black and white and the games other sound effects just dont turn off.
Pretty interesting story, fairly twisted and evil. Definetly keeps you entertained.
The gameplay is not totally great like the rest though, the auto aim takes some getting used to and it actually makes you less accurate. The ememies dont mess around, 2 shots on medium difficulty by a shotgun and your down and out. One positive is that the stay out of the lights element adds a rather strategic twist to the normal running and gunning. And No the uber powers dont unbalance the game for the most part.
Ok, multiplayer is a different beast. More in the vein of a doom or shall i say timesplitters? Fairly fast-paced, your never out of the action and the maps are tiny so youll always be on the lookout for baddies.
Theres one problem though, the lag is horrendous and i dont mean lag as in all other console shooters. I mean straight teleporting across the map, screen freezing and slowdown lag. Yeah a real hardcore kind.
Network code needs to be fixed pronto.
I just got my Darkness powers. So far it's been a pretty interesting game. I do like it but I feel it is just another shooter.
There hasn't been too much so far for me to go 'omg' over. The start in the car was very cool although it took him like 10 minutes to load a shotgun.
Does killing/saving Mikey change anything? When he gave me the guns, I hit LB not knowing it shot... well Mikey got one in the head and so I restarted and kept him alive. I figure it doesn't matter either way.
Just wait until you hit the WW1 area.
Pretty fucking cool.
I just got Tenchu Z, this and Oblivion all in the same week (2 off ebay finally came)... I guess I'll finish this up.. ha
You gotta alot of playin to do!
I just picked this game up yesterday and it's freaking awesome. The action is great, hit detection seems right on the money, the darkness powers are pretty cool and unique, and Mike Patton voicing the darkness is unreal. Plus, sticking a gun in a guy's mouth and watching his brain matter fly out the back of his head never gets old.
and as far as I can tell, saving Mikey does nothing. He seems to die after you go through all his daiologe anyways. It's much more fun to just shoot him in the face.
Finished the game last night and I'm disappointed with it. Im really glad I didnt buy it. The action parts are pretty fun but they really are nothing spectacular. There is some cool story plot points but it does drag on in most spots. The subway/city running around tasks are boing as fuck and really drag the pace of the game down. The loading, oh for fucks sake the loading sucks ass. I just wanted to play not listen to Jackies lame crap.
I give the game a 7. Its pretty cool but I'd never bother to slog through the story again, way too many boring stretches in between the little bits of action.
I rented this, and it is very cool. It probably won't appeal to the brainless set, as it has RPG elements mixed in with the killing. The PS3 version has Accomplishments, which I am assuming equate to the 360 Achievements. I'm not trying to get them all, but I have gotten several by playing the game. I was foiled in my attempt to bring down a helicopter with a shotgun though.
The irony is that you are supposed to run from the said helicopter.
And samurai the loading already only takes 7-10 seconds...it makes it alot more interesting and develops the plot considerabley. The running around parts actually are my favorite periods of the game. Doing the sidequests are loads of fun.
Anyone else detect a hint of latency in the movement controls? I don't notice it with the right analog (aiming), but the left analog feels pretty laggy to me. Try standing still and just tapping the controls left and right to see it--it's slight, but it's enough to piss me off when playing.
The default aiming settings are AWFUL. Look acceleration is never a good thing. Fortunately the game lets you max out the acceleration so that it's basically a non-factor, but the aiming still doesn't get anywhere near Halo-good.
Well yeah because its a full auto aim. Not like Halo where it only slows down when you pinpoint a target and not like Perfect Dark Zero where aiming feels like a bunch of crappy Salsa music.
And although i havent had a problem with this so called lag, i have a problem with how slow this guy runs. I mean he already looks really out of place(long hair and all)but he apparently runs like a fatass.
Yeah, he's a heffer.
And the auto-aiming has nothing to do with my problem with the game's aiming.
Whats your problem then?
I'm sure TrialSword was going to post this in the Amazon Deal of the Day thread but not everyone reads that. The Darkness 360 for $44.99 today.
