I've heard about the PS3 version having that lock up error. I put in a good 15 hours into my playthrough and didn't come across any bugs (360).
With this particular incident, that's the problem. This IS a bug that I can reproduce...and it leads to multiple game breaking issues(falling through the world, having a double, and actual game crashing). I do believe that it's stemmed(after testing it some more) from riding your horse at full speed once you get on the path into Arsuf. There is a point where the game normally draws back the perspective to show you advancing troops on an overpass overhead, and if you walk there they drop down to fight.
However, by speeding past them you initiate the problem(they never drop down). In some instances(I'd say about 1/10 tries) the archers on the cliff just past the overpass don't even spawn. If this happens then you can actively walk/ride through any of the solid mountain side areas(which will drop you off the game). Staying on your horse lets you fall indefinitely, while jumping off the horse kills you.
If, when speeding through the archers on the cliffside spawn in as per norm, you can cut left and completely bypass the "memory wall" that normally blocks your path. Do this and climb over the next area to run into misplaced soldiers. While some will fight you, the majority run away.
This wouldn't be so bad except that after they run away, you start taking damage from absolutely nothing. No "hit" animation, no ability to counter anything, etc. You just lose life while walking irregardless of what's going on, where you are, etc.
Also, after respawning during any of these glitches you will have a mirror image of yourself that you control along with your character. If you get into combat at all, you can force the game to crash(fairly easily) by trading blows with yourself. You can also accidentally(or purposefully) assassinate yourself.
Another item of note is that while fighting with guards(and having you're other self in tow), any time you perform a counter kill/guard break kill the camera will shift immediately to your mirror image. This doesn't matter where you are either. You could possibly be on the other side of the map, kill someone with a counter-kill and the camera will force a full blown zoom to the other version of you.
I'm nowhere near as pissed off as I was earlier(spending an hour trying to bypass these glitches just to finish your game would do that to anyone), and now I'm far more intrigued with the horrible bugs and how they work(as per norm, when this happens to me in any game I immediately attempt to recreate it on a consistent basis -- so it can be legitimately shared with others) as this is far outside the world of "fucked up Havocs Engine physic bug" or "retarded wrestling engine" that I've been dealing with these last few weeks(all work going towards our epic video). The video itself is being compressed now, and will be uploaded shortly to my site as well as YouTube.
The avi file(on my page) will be in Xvid codec, at 720x480 resolution and should hopefully clock in at about 30megs. The YouTube one is going to look worse, as per norm with YouTube. I'll reply to this thread when all the links are set up and ready to rock.
I saw this on Kotaku three days ago. So apparently you aren't the only one with the problem. Well, at least the dupe bug.
Has anyone else tried playing the game with the entire HUD turned off? It's pretty cool. Makes you use the audio clues and landmarks a lot more. Feels more like being an assassin.
Spanky: That looks like the exact same area actually. Holy shit.
Yeah, you arent the only one seeing that glitch MWF, people were posting a vid at GAF up of someone having the dual Altair one towards the end of the game AND one of my coworkers who beat the game had the exact same thing that happened to you, going towards the last kill. He told me he still beat the game though. Ill ask him how he got around it tomorrow.
And thanks for the heads up DYLE. Ill have to just mess around with those assasinations a little more at different heights.
And did anyone here know that if you go into Eagle Vision apparently you'll get a sound cue that will lead you to your next hit? So playing without a map/HUD is feasible and is probably how the game was planned out. Someone at GAF mentioned that one too.
Thinking about getting this at Target ($38 dollars this week). What are the version differences?
PS3 version has better AI.
