So this and Army of Two on the same day? Fuck.
And, more importantly, Crysis.
damn those are three games I care about.
dont forget on the 360 side also, mass effect.
We're well into the top tier game onslaught.
My wallet hurts. :(
That is if I carried a wallet instead of all of my cards wrapped in cash with no clip.
Very brutal to buy all these games. I try to finish some of my older games and sell them to recoup some of the heavy spendings. It also helps that my birthday is in late November so I can put some of my wants on my list instead of buying, and then we have Xmas! :)
Mario Galaxy is the 12th/13th as well.
Are you fucking serious?
Shit, I have to get that for my girlfriend. Also I have to play it with her.
I'll play Mario Galaxy with your girlfriend, you just worry about the rest.
How thoughtful! :D
I won't be buying Army of Two right away. Price drop, yes, full price, no.
Sweet.
In a few months we can both pick it up and do c-op.
I won't be buying Army of 2 immediately either if you ever need another co-op mate.
Sweetx2
More like Army of Poo. Get it?!
More like Army of Toots, imo.
So let's get this straight. This game is some sort of militant islamic terrorism simulator? Is the protagonist driven by radical islam? Do you get extra points for beheading jews? Color me offended, your kids might as well be playing 'ethnic cleansing'! I sure hope Jack Thompson bans this thrash.Quote:
The term 'Assassin' is generally assumed to be derived from its connections to the Hashshashin, a militant religious sect of Ismaili Muslims, thought to be active in the Middle East in the 8th to 14th centuries.
also, I'm kidding.
im gonna wait on reviews and TNL sandy-vagina reviews. The last videos i saw on this didnt impress me much.
Internet psychic: This game will be the next Indigo Prophecy. A game that everyone loves 3/4 of the way through and then hates.
Update: Soundtrack by Jesper Kyd. :tu:
There's a bigass PR quote I could paste in here, but it's a little wordy given what it contains.
impressions came out on both versions of the game. All running without v-sync problems, and smooth as butter. It mentioned that the PS3 version seems to have a slightly better AI and better AA. My 360 hit the shitter and for once ubisoft delivered, so its a safe buy for me then.
Been reading impressions on ps3forums again? Because the impressions I've heard made no mention of AI (almost impossible to gauge at this point anyway), and the PS3 version doesn't have any AA, unlike the 360 one.
Assassin's Creed, Crysis and Mass Effect will be mine. The good thing about having money is knowing how to spend it. I can't play all of the games I want this season. So make your list, buy the top 3 or 4, and then come back to the list in February when you have nothing good to play.
"slightly better AI" might be the weirdest phrase ever.
How would they program better AI into a multi system release?
You do understand that AI is a function of the software, right? When they're pressing the disc, they don't just say "Oh no guys, this game doesn't have enough AI. Better throw in another handful."
Also, again, it's multi platform. There's not someone out there saying "Guys, I changed the extra_AI bit on the PS3 version. It's now 1 instead of 0. Don't change it from 0 on the 360."
I have read the article where these "impressions" come from, and nowhere does it say this. It says "both versions offer the same experience." Do you realize how stupid "slightly better AI" sounds?
What it does say is that the PS3 has a little more AA than the 360 version. The 360 version has a "softer" image, while the PS3 has a sharper image. Still, the PS3 has more jaggies because the "softer" image of the 360 hides it.
Anti-Aliasing has nothing to do with a sharper image. It's a post-processing effect that smooths out jagged edges. That's what it does. It never results in a sharper image. Saying so is just retarded.
Spoilers.
Does it include the huge twist right at the beginning of the game? If so I'm not too sure how I feel about that twist.
No plot details here, but some might not even want to know the answer to your question:
The "twist" does come at the beginning of the game, and is integrated into the story throughout. Its not so much a plot twist as it is a part of the overall setting/plot of the game that is being kept under wraps so that it will be a little shock to people starting the game. I think it would piss most people off if it was just some pointless surprise at the end.
Quote:
the only real things to do in the game are kill the 60 templars who are just normal guards but a little stronger, the main assassinations, the 3-4 generic "investigation" mini missions before an assassination, and collecting the flags, there's literally nothing else in the game
you don't get any reward except achievement points for flags and templars, the investigation stuff is one of these:
collect 20 flags in 3 minutes
pickpocketing: listen to a short conversation between two people, walk up behind one of them holding B and pickpocket him)
interrogation: listen to some asshole yell, follow him as he inevitably walks into a shady alley and then punch him 4 times and he tells you some valuable information like "you can get into where the badguy is by climbing the walls"
eavesdropping: sit on a bench and listen to a conversation, thats it, that's all the mission is
assassination (this is the only one that is even remotely interesting) basically you have to kill 2 people without being detected during the entire mission, so you have to actually sneak around, some of these have a 3 minute time limit, some dont
there's like 4 of these per assassination but you only have to complete 2, there's no gameplay advantage to doing any more than those two since now the assassination mission is unlocked and you can just go do that
there's no real drive to explore anything because there's nothing to find except templars and flags, neither of which give any sort of reward at all except gamerpoints when you find all of them
BUT GO BUY UNCHARTED!
Out of curiousity, where is that quoted comment trying to go? Does it need a kart racing mini-game or something? It's a game about stealth and killing and the only things to do are stealth and killing? Well color me surprised. I guess that person just wanted it to be Thief IV instead of Assassin PoP or whatever.
that twist is maximum gay.
It sounds like the guy is complaining that the world is boring and unrealistic, which is what it sounds like, and the missions repetetive. If you're in a huge, open world but every mission plays out mostly the same, what's the point?
Of course I'm guessing, but the world in Assassin's Creed probably just doesn't feel properly alive, people doing interesting things about town, fun things to see and whatnot while you're walking around, and the story seems like ass sooooo....this game might be a little more "meh" than I thought it would be.
Saints Row was pretty good and most of the oddball missions in the GTAs sucked. That honestly doesn't sound like much of a bad thing to me, but I guess if someone was looking for something to do besides assassinate people than this game would be a bad choice.
But hey, I haven't played it so maybe it is really boring and lifeless. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
How 'bout a source for that quote, B-Ri? Or are we just randomly stealing comments off the internet, and making posts out of them now?
why does it matter that B-Ri is posting it? it's also coming out for the ps3 so it's not like he's playing fanboy or anything.
Why are we discussing the credibility of a badly written unsourced quote? Who cares?
not that im trying to make that quote any more valid (it was a paste i got from a friend), in truth, who has credibility anymore?
I don't get what you're saying. You mean that everyone can be full of shit on the internet? Why aren't you full of shit then? Or your friend?
Why aren't you full of shit then?
The game seemed awesome when it was shown off, then we got the clumsy looking demo around E3. Its now out tomorrow, yet we have no major publication review yet. Somethings up with the game. I read this and had a good WTF moment where suddenly i have a mission to jump across rooftops collecting "flags". Maybe for some time trial mini games, but main game? The story is also going places it never needed to go. Something is fishy, and im holding off on it for now.
It's a bit suspicious to me that only a couple of reviews have surfaced on one of the 'biggest' games of the year a day before its release. Couple that with it being sold on day 1 for $39.99, and I wouldn't doubt the impressions.
I don't care how good the game is or isn't; as it's obviously stored memory or virtual reality or The Matrix or whatever; a representation of history rather than history itself, this detail will have a major effect on my immersion and enjoyment, and not in a good way.
I'm glad I learned about this early on, and that Ubi reveals it early -- revealed as a twist at the end, I'd be quite upset at the deception. As it stands, I won't be able to ignore this while playing, so unless something else earth-shattering comes up, AC has gone from "Day One" to "Later....Maybe" for me. ATM I'm going to wait until the arc plays out and then decide if I'll take the plunge.
Perhaps it's my loss - oh well. As it stands now, it's not for me. It's disappointing, but it's not like there's a lack of quality new releases right now.
My main question is why this decision was made, and I suspect it's to support a three-game story. All will be made clear in time.
I also heard that Mass Effect has all sorts of unfortunate pop-in and performance hitches, but THAT game is still apparently God's gift to man.
Game Informer gave it a 9.5, PSM gave it a 5/5 (according to a UBI source on the IGN boards, not that PSM is any good), and there were multiple more scores given by the same source that had very high scores but the publications were not allowed to be revealed when he made the post. If I have a few min I'll dig through the dreg that are those boards to quote his posts.
The impressions of the game being repetitive and shallow have damaged the game more than the twist has. I don't really care that much. The original plan to keep it a timepiece is a better idea IMO, but if it is a memory of what happened then so be it. The gameplay and mechanics are the still same. Those impressions seem suspect, though. Just watching the platforming and fighting in the game footage excites me.
So now Ubisoft is using EA's bullshit tricks? Wonderful.
EA did it with Madden, so this is not unprecedented.
No question. If the ESRB wants to do something useful, they should butt into that.
Were you all not paying attention or something? I've known about this "twist" for a long ass time, and there's been plenty of evidence of it shown in trailers and such.
The twist has been known for like two years, even since Kristen Bell leaked it in an interview.
The first footage ended with a bit of sci-fi, but it wasn't explained, and Jade Raymond was all coy about it, but Kristen Bell said it was all about racial memory, and memories held in people's genes.
Ah, gotcha.
So, the TV ads look boring as all shit. How's the game hold up?
Gotcha.
In all fairness, we saw an ad for Beowolf the same night and thought it was the same release... and that was boring as all shit also.
This game is only $39 at my store tomorrow.
I'm excited.
7.0 at 1up.com.
Sounds boring.
The reviewer is Michael Donahoe who's like the retarded kid brother at 1up.
Sounds like a rental to me.
* Games Radar (100/100): "With its riveting story, beautiful visuals and surprisingly lifelike world, Assassin's Creed is an incredibly deep, enjoyable game that kept us addicted from beginning to bizarre end. It's bogged down by a lot of monotonous repetition and a fighting system that's sure to frustrate hack-and-slash fans, but neither of those things really diminished our enjoyment of the game, and both were far outweighed by the thrill of tearing around its enormous cities and carefully planning spectacular assassinations. It might not be for everyone, but playing through Assassin's Creed still stands as one of the most outstanding gaming experiences of 2007."
* Game Informer (95/100): "Assassin's Creed is the type of game that comes along only rarely – a title that innovates in so many areas it helps to set a new bar in various aspects of gameplay, storytelling, visuals, and controls. Simultaneously, it's an imperfect game in which the small flaws that mar its sheen are all the more noticeable because so much of the rest of the game shines so brightly. Deep, engaging, and surprising from beginning to end, Assassin's Creed's merits will be debated for a long time. However, as a brave attempt at delivering something unique and audacious, it excels."
* 1UP (70/100): "The fault of Creed's game structure isn't what you do -- gathering intel and conducting hits is actually pretty sweet. The repetition of these actions, however, is severely bitter. I kept waiting for a changeup of the objectives, and, well, that never happened. From the first hit to the last, you go through the same motions over and over and over...find the viewpoints, do the investigation missions, and take out the final target. It got to the point where I only did the minimum amount of investigation tasks needed to perform each kill. To make things worse, despite Ubisoft's faithfulness to history, the three cities of Acre, Damascus, and Jerusalem are practically the same."
i watched the gametrailers review, and they said repetition begins to make it stale, and AI as if it was borrowed from SC doesnt help either.
I hope you can unlock Jade Raymond's boobs.
Every review I read talks about repetition and shaky combat. I'll pick this up, but not before Mario or Mass Effect, and not at full price.
The gametrailers review has some good insight on these faults.
Shit, now I'm not sure if I want it.
Seriously, the best looking game at E3 2 years ago and it's a disappointment too.
Yeah, definitely holding out on this. Insane that I took such a 180. Hell, I might just wait and check it out after a friend of mine finishes.
And I might have to pick up Mass Effect day one, now.

This seems like a game that sharply underscores how broken the video game criticism "industry" is, between the review embargos and the numbered scores (of certain outlets) that differ vastly from the actual content of the reviews.
I'm sure AC is pretty decent in all truth, but the marketing money poured into this thing totally overshadows what the game actually is.
Guess I'll wait for it to hit the bargain bin, since it still seems like a good game, just not full price worthy.
Oh, and I guess the embargo on scores lower than a 9 was true...
In an ass backwards kind of way, I am glad this underachieved. Now I can rent it without being tempted to buy it. It's not like I don't have other things to play.
In the serious glut of games in the second half of this year, there was bound to be a casualty or two. I'm surprised that this is the first genuine disappointment among all the Call of Duty, Bioshock, Mario etc. madness.
I'm building a pretty secure rental pile, and if gamefly would just have their damn east coast distribution center ship to NY they would have a customer by now.
Jade should just pose nude and put it on the cover to boost sale.
LOL @ people who got the collectors edition.
