Loving it so far. Exploration, and fighting with full powers in the beginning was bad ass.
It looks hot too, even on our not hd tv.
I found the comic, but it's probably not the best idea to post it here. Usual places imo.
Game seems pretty fluid and fun so far with lots to do and lots to find. I rather enjoy just running around on rooftops and scaling walls to see how far he'll jump and what he'll grab onto. Not so thrilled with the combat, but it's manageable. Overall, really enjoying it.
The combat has grown on me, I don't really have any problems with it. Some of the counter strike animations are really wild, never get tired of seeing them.
I find the timing for that (maybe the 'combo strike'?) where you press attack as your sword hits theirs to be really unresponsive. It seemed to work well while you were doing combo training, but on real guys it almost never works for me. I dunno, minor gripe.
Hey look, everyone! It's an Optimus Prime cameo! No, really!
That's awesome.
lol thats a good catch, I totally would have missed it.
I love the combat, it's really fluid, also a lot of times where the combat comes as unresponsive I always just figured the guard was defending. Yeah some of the counter-kill animations are while, plus with good timing and some luck you can have a badass string of kills. Mech has made a habit of killing someone, throwing a knife at whomever is behind them and killing them, and often times following up with another counter-kill.
This game is fantastic.
So far our fave is going in with dagger and throwing knives, along with jump in stealth kills.
Oh man, chasing a dude down a street and pouncing on him with the wrist blade is a fucking thrill. I was in a fight with 4 guys, waxed 3 of them and I swear I saw the look on the last guys face change from "I'm gonna kill him" to "OH SHIT" just before he made a run for it.
Walking through a crowd slowly to shank an oblivious guard rules too.
Yeah it does, I actually start my fights by jumping right on guys with the wrist blade. My favorite thing though is when a citizen was being harassed, walk up to where I have 2 people facing their backs to me, stab, shift, stab, draw weapon and fight.
What a fantastic game to play around in.

Beat it last night, did everything except collect every flag and pickpocketed 200 knives. I like how they're handling the story and I really want to see where they go with the setting, and it seems pretty obvious that by the third game we'll be playing in modern times with Desmond. As for the ending and all that, Altair is wrapped up to the extent that it's needed to so that's hardly a big deal but I would've liked a tiny bit more than the quick wrap-up (because I'm greedy). At the same time, however, you are given a good amount of information about everything else so that was pretty cool. When you replay missions you also rewatch the cutscenes, so you probably can still get that your first time through.Quote:

I haven't seen the two side by side so I couldn't say how the PS3 vs. the 360 one ran, I just picked 360 because I love the controller so much more and I wanted the achievements list.
What I can say about them is that this game needed some more bug testing, as my copy froze once but it was right after I loaded a level so no biggie. The big thing is if you take a look at Ubisoft's forums there's a huge bug thread, in which some PS3 users have been getting a "white screen of death," both consoles have had some crashes, and at least one person on the PS3 has gotten a corrupted save file from a freeze (happened during a load screen). Eep.
[edit] I'm also the worst stealth assassin ever, in case you were wondering.

It's true he is.
Did you get the kill 20 guards and 10 minute combat achievement for that? Seems like I have to start a fight and just not kill people for 10 minutes to get that second one.
It'd be even better soaked in blood.
Nope, and it wouldn't have qualified for either as each one has to be a single fight and all I did was kill every guard that walked up to inspect the bodies. The 10 minute really is just not killing for that long as it's supposed to be done as a chase, but standing in a group dodging for that long also works. The 25 guards achievement also has to be done as a chase since the game will never spawn that many to kill as part of a single fight. I did it by killing an entire group except for two, and then lured them to another part of the city where they could gather another group and then kept repeating until I got it. Leave it at two, as if it's not a mission kill leaving only one left will often have him run away from low morale and break the fight.
This is the best game I've played in a really long time. I'm gay for Prince of Persia, so a sandbox PoP is probably the best thing that could have happened.
Getting achievements in this is reward too. I still can't get over how good this game looks.
This game is evil in it's placement of the retarded thickies, drunks, and homeless women. They're always placed in the absolute most inopportune areas and it's a brilliant piece of work by the programmers. I swear to god, once I'm done with this game I will go on a bum/drunk/thickie killing spree that will be both plentiful and satisfying.
Start tossing them and you get an achievement (I think it's only for the beggers though).
If I'm about to do anything important I take note of the riff raff and deal out justice as necessary.
2 questions for those that have finished the game.
I took a thing that looked like a glowing pen from the doctor in the last half of the game. Is there a use for it? And does the game seriously end with you standing in the lab? I walked around for 10 minutes trying to do anything before I just quit. The story wraps up (for the most part) and I got the "beat AC" achievement so I guess that's it. Really weird way to end a game.
Edit: Just found out I need to use the access code in my room to get the last bit. I swear it wouldn't let me do anything in there though.
Is there a way to assassinate with the hidden blade while jumping or falling? I remember at the beginning of the game there was that high profile 'jump on the back' assassination you could do, but it seems like there should be more. Maybe its a skill learned later on? Because Ive jumped behind at least two templars, hidden blade equipped, Left trigger locked, and seem to never get the 'X' button assassination prompt and it always ends up coming down to a surprise swordfight.
This game looks real good though. Coming over that hill above Damascus the first time was a pretty 'wow' moment.
The jump assassination is done while you're running. Locking on first, charge 'em with the hidden blade equipped and then hit x.
If you're within range, you'll pounce. For a few of the main assassinations I snuck around behind them, climbed down the wall to get close enough and then locked on to them. Hold R Trigger, hit X and you'll jump off the wall and drop 'em. I don't think you can do it if you fall/jump off a roof.
The woman's pen is for her computer, the doctor's pen is for his computer. Be sure to check all of their mail (inbox, outbox, and trash) to get the access codes to both the conference room and to the laptop inside there. As for ending the game, you make the credits roll by using eagle vision on the wall inside your room. If you notice you can use the vision anywhere in the room and there's riddles all over the walls, if you want some answers on what they all mean I can tell you.
Thanks, I did all that after I edited all that. There's a great article on CVG giving all the details on the historical elements of the ending. Most of the special stuff at the end has been decoded, pretty wild shit. Can't wait for the sequel.
So I picked this up yesterday and don't really have anything new to add to what's already been said, but I did get the dreaded "White screen of death" today.
Seriously, wtf is up with all these problems this generation? After returning my RROD 360 a few weeks ago, I picked up a 60gb PS3, since then, I've picked up Uncharted, COD4 and Assassin's Creed.
Uncharted hasn't given me any problems, but I can't play COD4 online because after 10 min or so it completely turns off my PS3 (I'm talking about completely, it wont even go into standby) and today I get the WSOD during AC.
I'm 99% sure it's not an overheating problem, but I'm at a loss for words on all of these issues.
Actually you can assassinate people from high places like rooftops, just not TOO high up. Done it plenty of times. Practice on anybody in the city and you're get it. If you target them and either Assassinate towards them or Jump->Assassinate towards them it should work.
Fuck this game. I can't even finish the march towards the last area(the one southeast of Acre) due to some kind of massively huge bug that continually "gives me the honor" of falling through the game.
Now that wouldn't be a big deal, but after I die...I respawn with TWO OF ME. Both can be controlled by my one controller, as all inputs are mimicked. Attack to much? Fall through game. Go to fast on horse? Fall through game. Fight with yourself? Freeze game. Stealth kill/counter kill? Camera warps to the 'other you'. Go really fast on horse? Pass through "memory blockade" and have fun walking around being hit by invisible soldiers(while doing damage to you, which doesn't involve the "im hit" animation either).
And yes, you can assassinate yourself...and accidentally fight yourself in combat with bad guys(and in turn, accidentally counter yourself/grab yourself/grab counter yourself/throw daggers at yourself; all which do damage).
Been dealing with this for an hour now(rebooted the game, the system, etc multiple times) and it just won't stop happening. So...expect a video of this by the end of the night as my final "fuck off" to Ubisoft's shitty group of Quality Assurance testers.
I think I'm liking this game a lot more than I should. It's pretty much a next gen looking game with last gen gameplay....but whatever.
I think my favorite part of the game is the combat. They could have turned this into a God of War button masher really, really easily. I mean, there are soooo many GOW combat emulations in games now. But instead, the combat in this game is based on timing and skill. I love it. It's slower paced and more thoughtful and satisfying. And it looks fucking sweet as hell.
I also like how they do the cutscenes in this game. Really kind of unique. Especially the cut scenes before every assasination.
I wish the voice acting of Altair was better though. Everyone else is excellent, I don't know why he isn't, or why whoever was in charge of the voice acting didn't see that and fix it.
(re: MWF)Send that chick in your avatar after Ubisoft. You'll get results.
I'd personally love to hear an explanation for all the wonky bullshit I've encountered by Jade and her "team".
'oh....well....yeah....uh....I'm hot and you should buy my game!"
I've worked in the game industry for several years now, and have had a few close friends who worked in QA specifically.
I can tell you, the Testers nearly always find and document every major issue (and the majority of the minor ones for that matter). Every single one. Not surprising since they play one game all day for months on end. It's highly unlikely the consumer will run across an easily reproducible problem that wasn't found -- at some point -- by a Tester (unless it's a rare situation in which a brand new issue was introduced in the submission build).
It's the publisher's call as to whether or not they want to ignore a bug, and pray it isn't found by the First Party. And to get a game out on time, you'd be surprised at what they deem "Acceptable," "By Design," or "Not a bug" (the latter two occasionally being applied to crash bugs for much amusement).
Seriously, I really want to know how shit like this gets through their testing phase. It's repeatable(I've done it 3 times on command, with some other attempts just randomly resulting in me falling through the map), which means someone should've caught it and been able to fix it.
What a bunch of lazy fucktards. "Oh, let's just let the hype sell our game! Who cares if it works, people are believing all the bullshit magazines and online sites are saying about it to begin with! YAY!"
Worst thing is that I was thoroughly enjoying this game, and it was a full on blast all the way up until this 'premature' end of the title. Guess that 20+ hours(I was getting everything in each area finished before assassinating the mark) and $60 resulted in a glitch video. :P
Exactly. So, do you really think a group of people who get paid to play that game every day, for months at a time (up to a year or more on really complex games) won't find the same problems? They do. The bugs are found and documented.
The devs then fix what they can/have time to, and the publishers ultimately roll the dice that Sony/MS/Nintendo won't find the rest of the serious issues (if they still exist) during submission (or pay them off to waive the issues they do find), and that the majority of consumers won't find them in a normal playthrough, all to push the game out in order to make their quarter.
If what you are saying is true, then this is just another thing about the game industry that pisses me off. Alot of the bugs I personally find BREAK the respective title's(either in balancing[fighting games], graphically, or the overall enjoyment) experience in a way that shouldn't even remotely exist. I think it's worst in fighting games more than anything else, as those bugs/exploits have the possibility to ruin the balancing...but in other titles(Mercenaries, for example) the bugs can be of beneficial use to the player.
Now, I don't want to discredit the abilities of QA testers here. These people do their jobs and do them amicably(a bunch of people that I used to hang out with awhile back are now full time testers at MS). But I sincerely doubt they find even half of the bugs that are found by players after any given title's release, as you can only have so many people working on a game at any given time, while after it's release you have the entire general public playing it.
Now couple that with the ideal that if you have like-minded players working on testing a game, then they won't think outside of their respective boxes. When a game hits the public market, so many different people with different ideas are playing a game that there's bound to be mind-blowing issues found in short order. I'm sure the QA guys look for basic shit, like "can you fall off of any cliffs we've locked down with invisible walls", but I'd wager that they don't go out of their way to see if they can climb on buildings using ragdoll physics and random articles of garbage(re: Saints Row).
It's true, and has been documented year after year for god only knows how long in many articles, interviews, and developer blogs. Companies don't have endless supplies of money, that's just how it works.Yes they do. I know that (at least years in the past) they were given sheets that included things like pressing a button over and over while jumping in certain areas and weird things like that. In an interview with Rare regarding Blast Corps they discovered a wall clipping glitch because a tester left one of the vehicles driving up against a wall when they went to lunch and when they came back it had driven through. They don't just make sure the game runs in the specific way it's intended to be played, they check whatever they can. But ultimately it's not in their hands, it's in those of the developers who are under the pressure of the publishers and investors.Quote:

And you're the only one I've seen that's encountered that glitch in Assassin's Creed. Frankly, I think one out of 500k or whatever is pretty acceptable odds and would've passed over that issue for more widespread problems as well. It's shitty sometimes but all you can do is refuse to support the games that allow major glitches to get by. The developers don't want a shitty product to hit shelves, but when people buy it regardless then the ones who give the developers their paychecks don't give a shit how many bugs it has. Email them with your issues, send them letters, and don't buy the product. It's all hinged on your dollar.
Yes, that's precisely the kind of thing good Testers test for and find. Looking for "basic shit" gets old after the first couple days. In order to keep themselves entertained (not to mention do their job well), they will go way out of their way to find the craziest shit they can possibly dream up. A single reproducible crash bug -- no matter how obscure -- can fail a game if it's found during submission. And this is arguably the main reason those bugs are sought out -- not to protect the consumer who usually won't travel off the beaten path to find these weird bugs, but to increase the chances of the game making it through the submission process.
And that's where your Tester friends at MS would come in. I've never worked at a First Party before, so it's a bit of a black box, but from what I can tell, they'll usually devote a few people to each submitted game for anywhere from a couple days to a few weeks. These Testers most certainly will miss a lot of issues. But they are only meant as a last line of defense, looking for really obvious functionality problems and "Standards" (save/load, legal, naming convention issues, etc.).
And you should hate this part of the industry. The consumer really is the one short-changed. So many games could benefit SO MUCH from an extra month or two, or even an extra few weeks, of polishing, but they are rushed out to make their quarter.
[Edit]: Mech beat me to most of my points it seems.
Make a video of your bug, email it to the devs, maybe they'll send you a free game. Could be a corruption on the disks data.
I've heard about the PS3 version having that lock up error. I put in a good 15 hours into my playthrough and didn't come across any bugs (360).
With this particular incident, that's the problem. This IS a bug that I can reproduce...and it leads to multiple game breaking issues(falling through the world, having a double, and actual game crashing). I do believe that it's stemmed(after testing it some more) from riding your horse at full speed once you get on the path into Arsuf. There is a point where the game normally draws back the perspective to show you advancing troops on an overpass overhead, and if you walk there they drop down to fight.
However, by speeding past them you initiate the problem(they never drop down). In some instances(I'd say about 1/10 tries) the archers on the cliff just past the overpass don't even spawn. If this happens then you can actively walk/ride through any of the solid mountain side areas(which will drop you off the game). Staying on your horse lets you fall indefinitely, while jumping off the horse kills you.
If, when speeding through the archers on the cliffside spawn in as per norm, you can cut left and completely bypass the "memory wall" that normally blocks your path. Do this and climb over the next area to run into misplaced soldiers. While some will fight you, the majority run away.
This wouldn't be so bad except that after they run away, you start taking damage from absolutely nothing. No "hit" animation, no ability to counter anything, etc. You just lose life while walking irregardless of what's going on, where you are, etc.
Also, after respawning during any of these glitches you will have a mirror image of yourself that you control along with your character. If you get into combat at all, you can force the game to crash(fairly easily) by trading blows with yourself. You can also accidentally(or purposefully) assassinate yourself.
Another item of note is that while fighting with guards(and having you're other self in tow), any time you perform a counter kill/guard break kill the camera will shift immediately to your mirror image. This doesn't matter where you are either. You could possibly be on the other side of the map, kill someone with a counter-kill and the camera will force a full blown zoom to the other version of you.
I'm nowhere near as pissed off as I was earlier(spending an hour trying to bypass these glitches just to finish your game would do that to anyone), and now I'm far more intrigued with the horrible bugs and how they work(as per norm, when this happens to me in any game I immediately attempt to recreate it on a consistent basis -- so it can be legitimately shared with others) as this is far outside the world of "fucked up Havocs Engine physic bug" or "retarded wrestling engine" that I've been dealing with these last few weeks(all work going towards our epic video). The video itself is being compressed now, and will be uploaded shortly to my site as well as YouTube.
The avi file(on my page) will be in Xvid codec, at 720x480 resolution and should hopefully clock in at about 30megs. The YouTube one is going to look worse, as per norm with YouTube. I'll reply to this thread when all the links are set up and ready to rock.
I saw this on Kotaku three days ago. So apparently you aren't the only one with the problem. Well, at least the dupe bug.
Has anyone else tried playing the game with the entire HUD turned off? It's pretty cool. Makes you use the audio clues and landmarks a lot more. Feels more like being an assassin.
Spanky: That looks like the exact same area actually. Holy shit.
Yeah, you arent the only one seeing that glitch MWF, people were posting a vid at GAF up of someone having the dual Altair one towards the end of the game AND one of my coworkers who beat the game had the exact same thing that happened to you, going towards the last kill. He told me he still beat the game though. Ill ask him how he got around it tomorrow.
And thanks for the heads up DYLE. Ill have to just mess around with those assasinations a little more at different heights.
And did anyone here know that if you go into Eagle Vision apparently you'll get a sound cue that will lead you to your next hit? So playing without a map/HUD is feasible and is probably how the game was planned out. Someone at GAF mentioned that one too.
Thinking about getting this at Target ($38 dollars this week). What are the version differences?
PS3 version has better AI.
Okay, thanks.
The PS3 version is generally considered the glitchier one and some of the issues have been addressed (supposedly):
http://kotaku.com/gaming/patch-watch...ves-328755.php
also achievements noob.
PS3 version has a significantly worse frame rate on average. I played both.
So director's cut is out, and miraculously doesn't suck. It's almost like Ubi gave a shit about doing a decent PC port this time.
Except that it doesn't support the analog triggers on Xbox 360 controllers and you have to go through like 7 menus to exit the game. But big fucking deal.
It actually performs well. My CPU is well below the "required" minimum and it runs comparably to the 360 version anyway, so I think they were a little generous with the requirements printed. Load times are barely there (faster than the console ports), and masked by those little limbo parts, just like the console version. Looks good, haven't encountered any glitches... It's actually a good port.
Now if it's a good game, I haven't decided yet.
Way to go Ubi (so far).
I picked this up a month ago but just started playing today. I love it so far. I heard it gets repetitive, but since I'm still doing stuff for the first time it's been awesome. If it doesn't get any better from here they missed a huge opportunity because everything is there to make this a great game. I'm hoping for some serious PoP style platforming sections to come. Right now I'm running around the poor area of Damascus.
you are going to be disappointed then
not that it's bad, but because there really isn't PoP gameplay
Who wants this shite for PS3?
First one to make me laugh gets it for shipping cost.
I have more fun finding all the little flags than the actual missions.
WATCH OUT HE'S FORCING IT ON YOU OUT OF SPITE.
Kept my interest all the way through, I loved running around the cities and shanking people left and right. Helps that it looks amazing too. I'm down for a sequel, the foundation is there to make a much better game.
Finished it and loved the setting/story. Some of the stuff inbetwen main assassinations does get a little repetitive but for me, how awesome the game looks, and the way the main assasination marks played out was way cool and made up for it.
Need sequel asap.
I'm quite happy with them doing Prince of Persia this year instead of Assassin's Creed, though I do hope they come out with a sequel once they work out how to include more actual gameplay between assassinations.
I just picked this up but didn't bother playing past the tutorial. Maybe I hate games?
Nah, the beginning's boring. It picks up after that although it ends up dragging on later. I enjoyed the middle of the game at least. ;)
Struggling to finish this...guess I am in the middle horribly repetitive part where you have to revisit existing levels.....so damn boring....looks great, less filling, welcome to the next level
So this is another pre-planned trilogy that will probably bust?
Probably. I'll tell you this much though: Part 2 will be way different. If it's awesome, then who knows.
I still have it installed on my PC but I always end up playing something else.
At least all the assassinations are pretty easy and quick, even if they are boring and all the same.
Is #2 confirmed?
Yeah, it sold really well. It's going to be a much different game.
I hope "different" means that doctors won't be able to use it for anesthesia like they did the first.
Also, less brown.
After you save the 4000th villager and hear the SAME EXACT dialog come out of them, but in a different dialect/gender, It gets a bit annoying.
Oh, this guy has an english accent. That means I wont notice that its the same exact two lines of dialog the muslim chick in the other city said. Yeah. Were all really stupid like that.
Yeah the first game was fun, but they need to change the game a lot before I'd consider buying a 2nd one.
The assassinations need to be set up like levels in PoP, instead of head to village square, kill someone the same way you kill everyone else. The cities should have more landmarks and look different depending on where you are. I wouldn't even mind if they were smaller as long as they were more interesting and unique. Traveling around in the Kingdom outside the cities is way more fun than the cities themselves because of how the terrain varies and the towns are set up differently. They need to spend more time arranging the platforms so you have to figure out how to reach a flag that seems impossible. The game also needs stealth. Blend is so slow! I'm an assassin, I should be able to run around a little without being detected.
In part 2, if I knife a crazy, drunk asshole who dares to push an assassin around then the guards should thank me, not attack me.
It should have been much more setpieces/running, way less emphasis on combat and more on escape, and way less inflated length with repetetive shit.
I hated having my abilities gimped.
Yeah, they really needed to, you know, give you some fucking cool ass missions. The prologue was cooler than most of the game.
Once you figure out combat there's really no need to run, you can murder bitches with the greatest of ease, especially after you get guard break and grab break. Honestly, after finishing it, it really gives off a GTA vibe. I mean, the most fun is just tooling around on rooftops (like in a car in GTA) and it's usually just annoying when the goddamn cops catch you murdering a bitch or flying off a ramp, just like GTA. I really liked the swordplay but...there was just too goddamn much of it. By the end you're like ALRIGHT ALREADY YES COUNTER THX. I've seen all of the 20 badass animations 100 times!
Chucking people off ledges is the best.
Planned-to-be-trilogy ending is the WORST. Jesus fuck! Still all of you were right, if they make a second game (bank on it) it'll be nothing like the first.
Yeah flying across 4 rooftops to leap-shank an archer and then spinning and throwing two daggers into two more is pretty fun. I did every side mission and viewpoint and that's the shit that gets boring. It's too bad that most of the viewpoints are the same goddamn building. There were actually maybe 5 buildings that were actually fun to scale. LOL and wtf the assassin can't swim.
It's going to be hard to get me to replay any of it though. I mean, when you try to replay a chapter it makes you play the whole goddamn chapter all over again plus unskippable cutscenes and bullshit. I can't believe that. You can't even skip over the weapons tutorials when you replay a chapter. That this is old school. In the worst way. I fucked up one assassination where I just tripped and fell off the stage (at the execution) and just murdered everyone...I realize now I should have just DIED but instead I went on and thought gee no sweat, I can just replay the chapter and restart that mission. Holy shit was I wrong.
lol nice code noob viral marketer
I started playing this today ( ps3 version for the better AI. LOL).
Played through Damascas and headed to Jerusalem. I could see this being boring due to repetition, but i spend maybe 4 hours a week playing a console game. Should be fine spread over time.
Exploring the cities to find flags is fun.
Whats the point of having a horse if you have to trot slow as a bitch?
What makes even less sense is that the guy can climb everything but trees.
...and now you can!
Thank God centuries of Assassin research and development was not for naught!
