Good question, I mean they automatically assume I wan't Blue- Ray, and HDD etc, I mean I'm sure most of us can buy our own 20 gig HD ourselves from who ever when ever we want/ need. So why over charge us for one?

That is the deciding factor. If the PS3 has some exclusive killer app that will digitally fellate, then people will buy it.

Early adopters will buy anything. I no longer consider myself an early adopter, but I know there is a new generation of them every year.

The math is a little different in my case, since I'll most likely want to buy an HDTV to play PS3 on, whereas a good monitor is all I need for 360, and I'll be getting one of those for my pc anyway. AFAIK, PS3 doesn't support standard lcd monitor resolutions the way 360 does, but we'll see.

The two different models of PS3 are identical target platforms for development, so there won't be any splitting of the market.
