Junk, i forgot about flying. That really sucked.Quote:

But you can't go to the galaxy huts until you light them up, and you can't go to a galaxy until you have enough stars to unlock it. You can play some of the levels out of order, but you're going to play them eventually. It could all be covered with either a more interesting hub or branching paths on the map.Quote:
The hub is there so you don't have to progress as linearly as Mario 3. Despite being very oldschool in the feel, it still gives you a fair amount of freedom, after the first quest hub, to pursue whichever galaxy tickles your fancy, and that is a plus to me. It also makes sense within the universe.
It's still miserably slow for anyone who's literate.Quote:
You can speed up text, I don't see how that's an issue.
Useful, okay, but the only fun powerup is the ice flower. The fire flower's too limited, and the bee's too pokey, and spring is painful to use.Quote:
The powerups are positioned in places where they are useful or fun, just like the 2d games.
As long as i can skip them, okay, but none of this obnoxious "wahaaa!" anymore. ): please.Quote:
Voices are UNDERdone, more voice acting, less shitty quality in my opinion.
I can see it from your explanation. The only part where it was really a problem was the very beginning where you're told "press A to jump!". I should've learned not to talk to any of the cribbits. At the same time, there are only a few buttons you can press on the Wii controller, add shaking and you have 3 things you can do. If you need someone to tell you that you're going to have to push one of four buttons or that you're going to have to shake the controller, there's no hope.Quote:
Tutorials are fairly minimal and almost totally optional, apart from the brief star bit tutorial.
The real meat of Mario Galaxy is still my favorite since hurrr, New Super Mario Bros, which is my favorite since Mario 3. If it wasn't for all the new gaming junk that came with Galaxy, it'd probably be the best of the best.
I didn't like it when i couldn't tell if going to the underside of a platform was going to throw me into a black hole or not.Quote:
I thought the changing gravity bits incredibly well done, rarely had issues controlling Mario even when he was upside down
I noticed a problem with my grammar, the hub doesn't have an oldschool feel, the game does.
The first galaxy is mostly tutorial, introducing a lot of core gameplay elements. By the second there was so much to do I managed to skip the third hub entirely, and most of the fourth, heading straight onto the fifth. When I finished the story I had only done one galaxy in the Bedroom, plus a couple of stars. It really does allow you to have a lot of freedom
Because one took the awesome PoP games as a base, then upgraded the combat system and then put it into an open city while giving it the best visual style of any game this year. The other took the bonus levels from Sunshine and added some elements from the space levels of Sonic Adventure 2 and called it a day.
That's harsher than I feel about the latter but is probably the best summary. Also can't wait to get exploded vagina all over me because of that. For someone that's enjoyed style over gameplay games like Ico, SotC, and Killzone I really expected more from you.Quote:

I do agree that Creed's style is great. I love the setting and the art is pretty good. I think I've linked here before on TNL, but I don't really want to re-write all my issues with Assassin's Creed. In summary, no amount of style is enough to overcome the game's appalling substance.
It's funny because all of Yahtzee's complaints are pretty much the only ones I had. The only times I died were when I was trying to do interesting stuff like make a jump that I didn't think I could actually make, and when the camera with it's horrible implementation caused me to run the complete opposite direction. The camera in this game was still terrible. I do wonder where else they could go with Mario after this though. Maybe a game entirely comprised of underwater levels?
I get it.
Both games are amazing and I love them for their atmosphere, but that's really where it stops. I don't think anyone finished Ico and thought, "Man, those were some great puzzles." And let's not discuss the laughably terrible combat system.
[edit] It would seem impossible for me to ever stay on topic in threads, apparently.
My only real issue with Galaxy is the way they balanced the difficulty. While it's quite challenging to get all the stars, they made it too easy to get to the ending. I guess a lot of people prefer it that way but I think designing it so it's a little more difficult to access the last boss level would be an improvement. It's one aspect where I prefer SM64 anyway.
