I know I won't.

Considering Q4 2007 is already pretty late, I don't get where the cynicism comes from. Nintendo has had it's share of delays, but this isn't Valve we're talking about. I think they can have a game be "only" 9 month late without an issue.
It's March now. Super Paper Mario is due in April. We still have Metroid, Pokemon, and Smash Bros. in 2007. You honestly think Nintendo is going to drop five major first party titles in 9 months? I don't, and I think Mario is the most likely to be delayed into 2008.
I would be shocked if it wasn't, I also doubt super smash bros will come out this year.
They're actually talking about and showing Mario, though. They've hardly said a peep about Metroid or Smash Bros since E3. I'd say those would be the ones pushed back before anything else.
If your logic is that they won't because they don't want to hamstring sales, I disagree because I think they realize they can't afford to lose momentum. If your logic is that they can't possibly finish them all, they've got entirely different teams working on each one. I agree with Bacon, Metroid and Smash Bros. have been mysteriously absent and those are the two if any that could miss 2007 (my guess is Nintendo's waiting to pull them out as online play flagships).
You think two games that haven't even had any gameplay shown yet (Smash Bros and Pokemon) are going to be prioritized over their most important title? You're nuts. Galaxy is likely Nintendo's #1 priority, it was clearly pretty far along already a year ago, and there's no reason it can't be ready for this fall. Same for Prime 3.
I'm not saying Smash Bros or Pokemon won't get delayed. But Mario I'm not so pessimistic about. This is Nintendo's most important holiday season. They need Mario. They know this.
I hope you are right, as I couldn't care less about Smash Bros or Pokemon.
Frogacuda hit the nail on the head. Dual assault of Mario and Prime for the holidays. How else do they plan on competing? Sadly, I will willingly fall for this and buy the system, if only for Metroid Prime.
If Mario and Metroid are both holiday releases, I won't be buying a Wii game for roughly 7 months between Super Paper Mario and them.
"Dual assault of Mario and Prime for the holidays. How else do they plan on competing?"
True...but the last time a Metroid for a big console came out, it went up against Halo 2 and got beaten so badly Nintendo is still picking up pieces of their ego.
Metroid Prime 3, meet Bioshock, Halo 3, et al. :D Essentially, no matter when it comes out, it's screwed. That's why it should have been released early this year/late last year.
Awesome, thanks for the info. That sounds better. As mundane as getting 100 coins per level in Mario 64 was, it was at least a simple pleasure compared to the nightmare of blue coins with no way to even track their status other than the counter.
:tu:Quote:
Levels have branching paths with multiple bosses. It seems like it's all action.
I always go back and re-read your E3 impressions in this thread whenever I have doubts :D
It's a little different that coin collecting, too. You grab the crystals by using the wiimote cursor to zap them. Almost like a light gun game at times. It's gimmicky, but it doesn't detract from anything and it's neat at times.
^^^
Neat. Thanks for the clarification.
co-op looks like crap to me
EDIT - nevermind...the co-op play in the first video looks ok.
I love the Gary Gnu avatar, RoleTroll.
Thanks. I picked Guile when both PBMax and SpoDaddy were using him and the Wii war was at its peak. It was time for a change.
Looks confusing. Stupid stars streaking around everywhere is gay. One less Wii game I'm looking forward too. Metroid 3 and Smash better be great.
You've already played Smash.
That looks pretty neat.
Maybe it'll be the third game I buy for the Wii.
Well, they are used as ammunition to help you out in a pinch, but using one burns a star. Collecting 100 stars will give you an extra life, but there's always the temptation to spend stars for shootin dudes. I think that's neat.
Well at least the stars arent always on the screen. I'll give the game a shot, but I didnt like Sunshine much. I just cant play the friggin scavenger hunt games anymore.
Sunshine blew, but I really really like what I played of Galaxy. It's not a scavenger hunt game. In the first level there are 3 stars you can get all by taking different paths to big, awesome boss battles. Not racing Koopa, not collecting blue coins, not any of that shit. It's pure platforming goodness, closer to Mario's roots than the 3D games in the series have ever gotten.
I know it's natural to be cynical coming of of a disappointing sequel, and I'm pretty fed up with Nintendo and the Wii, but I can't say a bad thing about Galaxy.
I am going to purchase this.
I really enjoyed sunshine too.
Also: cocks.
Assuming I still own my Wii upon their releases, I will definitely pick this up as well as Brawl. That might be it for the year, but two games to play are better than none.
So I know a lot of us got Wiis for Zelda and for Mario Galaxy.
Once this is out, then what
$250 paperweight.
Metroid. Then nothing.
Metroid comes out a few months before Galaxy. After Galaxy, there's Smash Bros, online Mario Kart, and that's pretty much all we know.
Third party-wise, Zack & Wiki, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, NiGHTS, and Dewy's Adventure might turn out well.
Hopefully Resident Evil aint shit, because other than that, theres NO third party games I'd play. Good job Nintendo.
I really wish they'd make an emo game so you could sit and cut yourself for hours on end on your favorite game system(god only knows what that is since you bitch about everything). We need to compile a list of the emo gamer squad around here and brand them accordingly like we do certain fanboys.Quote:

I was watching some video clips for Zack & Wiki and I really want to play that now. Each new mario video makes me want to play that even more also. Looks like Galaxy could give people some motion sickness.
There was some ridiculously bad press about Umbrella Chronicles on GAF:(Here's the rest of the thread)Quote:
Resident Evil Wii Umbrella Chronicles: But then after a streak of like 5+ years of every Capcom game being AAA quality, RE Wii is a piece of shit. It's not even Gun Survivor quality, it's feels and looks like a ****ing PS1 shovelware game. I couldn't believe my eyes because I'd SEEN those trailers that looked hot like GC RE0/REmake. But I dunno, maybe this was like 10% done super duper alpha version of RE2 stage (or maybe this is what happens to stages that they can't just RE-use character/zombie models, art from GC games) but it was very much a piece of shit. Curiously I heard a very STRONG rumor about who was developing it, which would explain my impressions of the title. Don't want to get anyone in trouble so I won't se it.
It wouldn't surprise me if lesser developers are handling RE:UC. I thought it strange that Capcom was releasing RE4 Wii saying "the experience is so much better with the wiimote"... and then saying they were going to make RE:UC fully interactive like RE4, but a RE4-type game can't be done with the wiimote so they had to make it into a gun game. I figured the RE:UC developer just lacked the skill to do it properly, and blaming the hardware because they can't get more than 10 frames/second if they make it interactive.
Yeah, I've got Prime 3 and Galaxy on my radar, but that's about it. I'm eager to see more of NIGHTS, because that's one game that I could really look forward to after the 1st party games dry up.

And the Mario vids look great, they capture the whacked imagination of the NES games where Sunshine seems stuck on it's enviroment and crappy narrative.
AND BEE MARIO NEEDS A 'FRO. *-neo
The problem here is that Nintendo's first year on the new console was charted to be stock full of great games throughout the entire year. It turns out it was just another Nintendo E3 ploy and once the smoke cleared everything was "delayed" "magically" to the "end" of the "next year" (this year) or longer. I can put way too many air quotes in that sentence for me not to be a little bit cynical.
That's bullshit. If I'm not playing Mario Galaxy at the end of the year I'm not going to be paying any attention to Nintendo anymore. And I barely pay attention as is. Enjoy your one year of great sales before people clue in to the fact that there's nothing to do on your console. They have until the end of the year or else.
Always leave off with an ultimatum.
I would buy 3 extra copies of the game if it did.
Gamefront has some new shots, frothing increases...
And maybe Mario has wised up and dumped Peach. *-neo
Mario's two-timing Peach now?
Also: Why does this game look like it's running on a different system than every other Wii game?
I thought Daisy was Luigi's beard?
Please. Toad is Luigi's sloppy seconds. Luigi's more afraid of vag than he is of ghosts.
IMO it's just a (OMFG SIGN OF THE APOKOLIPS!!) new look for Peach.
Then why does it say "Rosetta" on the picture?
Maybe Rosetta doesn't treat Mario like a particularly obedient dog. Based on the way Mario acts in Mario 64, there's some serious dominance/submissive games going on there. I bet Mario finally had enough of being Peach's bitch.

It's pretty obvious who wears the pants in this relationship. Even if she happens to be wearing a dress.
lol @ Rtificial's quotes.
Not sure how i feel about the coop.
It's Sonic and Tails co-op. It's just something to make your kid brother feel important where he can't do any harm.
Gamefront has some new shots up including....Ghost Mario?

So there is a ghost world planet? Go figure heh. Is that a bee mario I see also?
I'm willing to guess there is gonna be some sorta lava and ice planet also.
Good, the most important thing missing from Sunshine was variety in its environments.
My Wii had been gathering dust until RE4, I'll have to dust it off again in a few months when this hits.
Yo neo, your link to those scans is down. You got an up to date one?
figured.
Good to see this game still looking so promising. I read an article saying that this is the first major Mario title not developed in their Kyoto HQ, but instead is being handled by the team that made DK Jungle Beat, which sounds good to me since I liked it a lot.
I've been playing Jungle Beat trying for all the medals lately.
Don't worry, these guys know how to lay out levels on a level far beyond most mortal men.

That's fucking awesome.
Thats pretty sad, that someone would sit and stare at some box art that long to come up with that. Also the lens flare(sparkle) effect is pretty simple in photoshop.
This game is pretty much the exact same thing as Mario 64 but instead of jumping into paintings you use space to travel.
Seeing how the game isn't even released in the states yet and how you can go online and find various different box arts, I'd go with photoshop. I'm also sticking with my theory that you gotta look at that pic for a long time to come up with that. Hell I had to look at it for a bit to figure out wtf it was even getting at. It's more of the Jesus in the plank of wood, how many people are gonna look at that box art in a glance and be like "OMG LOOK ALL THE LETTERS WITH A SHIMMER SPELL OUT U R MR GAY! LOLOLOLOL".

Tommy Tallarico
That's some good looking Mario box art.
And those sparkles didn't just magically appear on those letters at random. Some trickster is behind that shit.
Mr. Gay & Watch imo
Part 2 of the development team discussing the game with Iwata is up in English. For some reason when the press interviews Nintendo, it's all boring crap but when Nintendo interviews itself it's much more candid and informative.
http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks_vol2_index.jsp
The first part of that same interview is pretty interesting as well. A little depressing, even.Quote:
So, about two years ago, after we were finished developing Donkey Kong Jungle Beat 3 for the GameCube, we had some time to plan what our next game would be. I had suggested creating a new, original game on our own, but then Miyamoto-san said in a rather sad tone, "I wish you could make a game with Nintendo characters..."(laughs)
Holy shit @ Spring Mario.
Vol. 3 hasn't been officially translated yet, but they announced there would be a lot of orchestrated music in the game.
Here's some JP commercials:

I can't wait for this one.
The really bothered me. Galaxy will probably be amazing but the fact that Miyamoto stopped the creation of what could have been a Mario-quality new franchise is not cool. I didn't think it would come from him. I remember in the late '90s he was asked they would do new franchises and he implied "not under Yamauchi's reign".
It's not like they were knee-deep in a new IP and then they were told to re-brand it or anything. A great high-profile game like this under their belt will definitely help the studio more in the long run, they'll probably expand to where they can take on multiple projects at once if they so desire, and being able to name-drop a hugely successful game helps immensely towards getting any subsequent projects off the ground properly. Mario Galaxy will be a much bigger feather in their cap towards getting the proper funding and marketing for any future projects than DKJB was (fucking genius game though it was).
Galaxy was developed by EAD Tokyo, whose last game was Jungle Beat. Jungle Beat was the best thing out of Nintendo in forever. Anyway, they wanted to make a new IP, Miyamoto said "wtfnopls" so they said "OK" and made Galaxy instead.
Considering the only worthwhile thing Miyamoto has done in the last decade is Pikmin, I hope he made the right call here.
I'm not sure what qualifies as a "Miyamoto team" anymore. He seems to always oversee a ton of projects. Like epmode said, it's by EAD Tokyo, an offshoot of EAD that formed a few years ago. They seem to be a mix of older staff that have worked on Mario games (the director is the same as for Sunshine but I will forgive him since Jungle Beat rocked. ;) ) and younger guys. The only major person that seems to be absent for Galaxy's development is Takashi Tezuka who has worked on nearly all the Mario games since SMB.
Miyamoto choosing the Jungle Beat team to head the new Mario was an excellent move. Mario needs the kind of talent they've got, Nintendo needs Mario to be the best it can possibly be. Hopefully, their next game can be original.

i played it tonight at gamestop. For a brief moment all the bad things inside of me went away. This one's special. Now there needs to be a three punch so Wii can be not a piece of shit that i play old games on.
