Bill Cosby is at it again

I need a server that knows everything about what I am eating.

Service denotes the tip, or lack thereof. End of story.

I ate lunch in Manhattan not too long ago, and received really, really fucking awful service. And to top it off, the tip was included in the bill. Fuck that. I asked the waiter to get the manager, whom I told to take the tip off the bill. He did so.

I am always ammused when places put on 15% gratuity automatically. Almost every time this has happened the person who was paying planned to give a bigger tip.

EVERYONE says, "if you hadn't added the tip we would have given you more". Well they are all full of shit. In 11 years of restaurant service, this has NEVER happened. If a server does not add the tip when they are obliged to, they will get screwed. If someone wants to tip more, they will always tip on top of the suggested gratuity.

edit: The standard for tipping in a restaurant moved up to 18% years ago. Unless you're ghetto or White Trash in which case it moved up to 10%

I thought the standard tip was always 15%?

I tip 15 or 20. Fuck if I am going to figure out what 18% is. I don't have to think at all for easy round numbers, so Im sticking with them.

I don't believe I've ever even eaten a mill that cost as much as that tip

This is definitely true when you are talking about large groups, banquets,etc- there should be a law requiring it- but I'm not so sure when it comes to like 2- or
3- tops. It seems to me that the auto-15% kinda lowballs it most of the time.

What I find more bothersome is the definite trend of restaurants overstaffing their servers. Like having 6 waiters sitting around on a Sunday night where they'll get two tables each if their lucky. I'm really not sure who actually benefits from this.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand (LOL). When I was a waiter I also began to notice that black people would stiff me about 75% of the time. But I also noticed that my best tips also came from black people.

I generally don't eat with other black people, so I have no idea how they tip.
