My directorial debut!

I shot, directed & edited a scene from The Princess Bride

So last year in my Adobe Premier class I was told to recreate a scene from a movie. Since my resources and time were very limited I decided on the battle of wits from The Princess Bride. Luckily my friend is about the biggest Princess Bride nut I've ever met and between us we had everything we needed to make the video.

I had to use the school's digital camera and we only were able to sign it out for 2 days and on the first day it was raining so this was all filmed over a couple of hours in one day. I've gotta give my buddy Chett huge props for learning all the lines basically over night. It's funny too since he thought he was going to make a great Man in Black and a horrible Vizzini (as you can see it it worked out in reverse). I shot, directed and edited the whole thing. This was my first time doing any of that.

I'm incredibly critical of it and I've never liked how some things came out. But I did what I could with the little footage we had. It would have been awesome to be able to re-shoot a couple of things. I did have a great time making this and I wish I had the time/money to do more.

I really was expecting this to be some amateur shit. Nice surprise it was really well done. Where did you shoot this?

Shooting it over 2 days probably would have worked against you Xeno, the lighting from day to day can change dramatically (I'm assuming you're not using any kind of lighting rigs out in the open like you are here). It helps the believability of a scene when everything is lit in the right direction at the same intensity levels.

Some shots you maybe held too long (like the bald guy placing the dagger in his sheath) but all in all it's well-made for this being the first time you've ever done anything like this.

This was entertaining. I liked the selling of the frightened sigh the man playing the Princess gave. I'd give you a good mark.

You're right, I'd have liked to have something to get that glare out of the lens when I was shooting the Man in Black sitting down. But I didn't have the foresight to bring anything.

And surprisingly enough, all the audio was recorded with just the built in mic on the camera. I had a boom all set up and ready to go but I bought the wrong mic and couldn't use it at all. Luckily the wind wasn't a problem at all and all the audio came out great.

Excellent job Xeno. You got lucky on the audio coming out so well.

Very nicely done. I haven't heard of the original text/movie/play, so I can't compare, but that was more than adequate.

The sound came out great. What sort of camera were you using? I'm making a movie using an XL2, and the sound quality of the mounted mic always impresses me (though we will still be using a boom).

Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seemed like the audio was slightly off-sync in the beginning.
