So then, what games are worthy of a 10!?

I see alot of jaded(like me) gamers here. So what qualifies as a 10? I am totally interested as I collect games as a hobby - mostly 16 and 32 bit. I never owned an N64 and dont play many PC games so I dont know very much about them, but I own over 900 games for my various systems. I have excluded sports games on purpose.

NES - Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda

SNES - SMB World, Contra 3, LoZ Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Axelay

Genesis - Gunstar Heroes, Sonic 3, FlashBack, Streets of Rage 2, EWJ, Aladdin, Golden Axe

Saturn - Shining Force 3, Guardian Heroes

PS - CastleVania SotN, FF7, FFTactics, RE2, EinHander, Gran Turismo 2

DC - Soul Caliber

XBox - Halo, Halo 2

GCN - RE4, Metroid Prime

PS2 - Im not giving any game (outside of sports) Ive played on PS2 a 10 - and I LOVE my PS2

It's such an old discussion that nobody takes it seriously anymore. No two people can agree on what games are the absolute best, and getting a forum to reach a consensus just isn't going to happen. So instead they just screw around.

Edit: Nash, you'd really put DMC1 over DMC3? I'd say that DMC3 improved on DMC1 in almost every way. DMC3 was such a sweet action game.

No game I've ever played is a perfect 10. Kotor, Mario 64, Starcraft, Deus Ex, Diablo 1, Xcom, Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2 (NES), Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Pikmin 1, Zelda OoT, Star Fox 64, they all had flaws in them somewhere.

I'd give Mega Man 2 a 10 though, that game is tops in the Mega Man series. Also DoDonPachi.

Actually taking this thread seriously for a moment (for whatever reason)... I'm not sure if I would consider a 10 to be "perfect" or just "really f**king good." I don't think any game could ever be perfect, thus there would be no use for a score that is considered perfect.

That said, even not considering 10 to be perfect, I'm not sure I could give any games a 10. That still makes me a think of a game where I'm totally content with the game, even if it isn't perfect, and even the games on my "favorite games ever" list don't live up to that.

Atari Jaguar Tempest 2000 = 12/10.

1 was hard, but not impossible. It took my friend and I 3 straight hours to beat it (after playing it for weeks). Then MM2 came out and I beat it in a couple of days (mind you I had time back then). Was abit disappointed that it was not harder, still, the game was better (other than the easier difficulty).

Yeah. Most of the games that are 10/10 for me are probably more like 8/10 everywhere else. So, even though I understand this thread, if I made a list it would be more like "what do other people generally agree are 10/10 games" and there's no point in that.

Making things worse, most videogames age so badly it adds a whole new layer of subjectivity to the proceedings.

WTF, that hockey qualifier really fucks up the equation. Any 3 of those terms you can do, but putting 'hockey' in there is like the Germans putting that 6th wheel on the enigma code machine. BUT, I'll take a shot. Zombies Ate My Neighbors. There are hockey mask wielding thugs that run amok in that game. It counts.
