The camera and supplies arrived Tuesday afternoon, and while I've got a lot to digest so far in terms of its features and uses, it's a pleasure thus far. Damn, I saved up for a long time and used combined money for graduation that I did NOT expect at all, and I'm just barely making the price for a MacBook plus student discount and a coupon for $100 and shit. Picking that up tomorrow and very damn grateful to be able to. I would not get picky about a free laptop not being the brand I wanted... I mean if you really need something different, cool, but you sounded really off at first.
I repeat: I very much appreciate the gift. This is the most expensive gift I've ever gotten from anyone, and I did nothing that I know of to deserve it.
Plenty of you are guilty of getting a gift and wishing you'd of gotten something just this much better, though, but aren't about to go sell it or complain to the person who gave it to you, putting you in a stuck position. I got mine last Monday, but i don't even really have it set up yet with the printer and my secret scanner on the cheap. It was kind of free, since it was secretly bought with secret inheritance money that i didn't know i was supposed to get. It's so nice, even if it will turn orange soon. My brother also scored me a free 1 gig ipod nano and CS2 for the cheap. I <3 my brother.

This Oppo Digital DV-970HD is replacing my first dvd player from 2000, a bad ass behemoth Panasonic.
Thanks to Shin and stormy for recommending Oppo, this player is amazing and really cheap to boot. Supports everthing, the upconversion looks fantastic and the unit itself looks really good. Only weird thing is the dvd tray is a really thin, fragile looking piece of clear plastic.

In my case, the guide is pretty amazing, definitley does a good job pointing out all the subtleties in various SFA systems. Sure, Alpha experts will probably scoff at this or that, but considering the sheer amount of content needed to be covered, they did a remarkable job being concise but still giving the pro info. I recommend both.

Graduation gifts are a little out of hand. I was in the top 10% and all that fun honors shit, and I didn't expect some amazing gift of a computer or anything from my family. I lucked out, since my extended family sent me small checks that just added up. Not gonna turn that down, but realistically, I doubt I'm going to go all-out if the time comes to give someone else a graduation gift. It's a silly tradition.
