Fusarium keratitis, a warning for those with contact lenses

You might have heard about this on the news or such. It's basically a really terrible fungal based eye infection. About 200 or so people have contracted it so far in the US, near 70% linked to the usage of a contact solution called Renu with Moisture Loc.

I am one of the lucky few.

My eyes are bloodshot with a thick visible fog, often tearing blood. Vision seems to have lessened a good 20-30%.

My reason for this post is: if you use Renu Moisture Loc...STOP. For the love of GOD...throw that shit away. Burn it. Give it to an ex. Just disregard of it.

Who really knows if it's perm or not. I hope not, but it's been 3-4 months with no signs of improvement and several medications used. It's getting really boring have to take pain meds to lull myself to sleep. Sigh. I am not the suing type, but this really is ridiculous....

Sorry to hear that. I had a sample from ReNu and used it without getting any side effects, thankfully. Once I read about it in the New York Times a few months back, however, I threw out a ReNu Multipurpose solution because I figured it's better to be safe than sorry.

They claim it's mostly the user's fault for the fungus growing because the fungus shows up when users don't fully submerge their lenses in the solution and don't allow it to sit as long as it has to.

And it could be that that is it, but really...who suspects they will get a vision altering eye infection by not playing Battleship with their lenses?

Yeah, I heard about this a few months ago and promptly threw my Renu out. Sorry to hear you got that eye fungus, that sucks. It does make me a bit nervous though because I pretty much wear my contacts 24/7.

This is what lawsuits are for. If you don't want to do it, fine, but you should. You have a legitimate issue with them.

Thanks guys. If I find my vision to be permanently damaged, I will probably take action. If not, well....I dunno. On one hand, it's caused me a lot of hell for the last 3-4 months. On the other hand, they didn't make this solution to purposely cause me harm. Meh, I shouldn't be such a softy....
