I decided to bust out my old VCS last night. It wasn't quite the great experience I was hoping for. The RF output had problems and even after I repaired the cable, I still experienced RF noise on the screen.
I tried playing Pole Position (Ugly Yellew cars) and the track just felt way too wrong. Ms. Pac-man's controls felt way too loose. Pitfall was alright, but either my contollers sucked, or the game's response rate was just horrible. Yar's revenge was okay, but the gameplay felt soo slow.
All in all, it wasn't quite the fun experience I remember from back in the day. :\
I often play 2600 games with a 6-button Genesis controller because the d-pad is so much more responsive than the old joysticks. You could try that if you have one.
I was just thinking about that. I can still play that game for a long time. The one song was awesome too.Quote:

I personally like the Atari XL/XE systems better. They can be upgraded into a mini computer and the cart games were often times better ports.
Yeah, even with perfect RF hardware you get noise, it really needs a composite or s-vid mod to be enjoyable. (really really easy to do)Quote:

With this you can plug straight into the coaxial input on your TV. I get better picture quality that way.

I was actually thinking of using my old Genesis 3 button, but I do have the 6 as well. I have an old Master Sytem control stick, is it also compatible?Quote:

If you still own a 2600, many of the homebrews that AtariAge.COM sells are fantastic! They come with nicely printed labels and manuals, and sometimes with boxes. Climber 5 is a DK'ish platformer where a ball player must ascend to reach his baseball on the girders. Marble Craze uses dual paddles to control a marble through mazes, many of which have classic Atari themes to them. It has supercharged music too that you probably won't believe the 2600 can do. I also like Skeleton+ (a First-Person perspective shooter , you hunt great-looking skeletons in different mazes. Loud/Softer volume beeps tell you how close each skeleton is from you). Space Treat is like a mix between frogger and reverse-frogger, it's quite the fun yet simple little game. I like Qb and Thrust too, there are really a ton of them to be honest.
