Quantum Leap

I did a search and didn't find any thread dedicated to the show, so here I am.

I used to watch this show all the time when I was a kid, I really miss the days of sci-fi on primetime... it's a little more preachy and generally awkward than I remember, but it's still one of my favorite television shows. It's got a perfect television show story; the writers are free to do almost whatever they want every week. It's also impressive in that every week is a different location and time period, with all the work that entails (gotta love stock footage).

What I learned from QL as a kid was that no matter where you are, who you are, or when you are, 90% of the world's problems can be solved by beating the crap out of the obvious bad guy.

I just bought the third season on DVD and have been watching episodes on and off, and my favorite thing is seeing the actors that pass through here, the stars before they were stars I guess.

The Leap Home Part 2 that has Sam in Vietnam with his brother stars Puddy from Seinfeld and the Tick (I forget his name =( ) as a crazy buff war guy, and Tia Carrere as a traitorous Vietnamese soldier. The one where Sam leaps into the owned of a New Orleans brothel has the voice of Amy from Futurama as one of the prostitutes.

My favorite by far, and the reason why I made this thread, is the casting of Dietrich Bader, Dietrich fucking Bader, as a crazy veteran biker gang leader. Fucking look at him, what the hell were they thinking?? I need to find or get screenshots.

Never got into this show. Something about Scott Bacula just irks me.

My problem with this show was that he never really did anything big, it was all small potatos stuff involving small town people's problems. Which I guess was the entire point of the show, but whatever, I would've liked him to do cooler things. Wasn't there an episode in which he leapt into Lee Harvey Oswald right before he assinated JFK? They should've done more stuff like that.

The best episode ever was probably the one in which Sam and Al switch places and Sam gets to go back to the future and fuck his wife one last time before being forever lost in the space time continuum. And the worst episode that I can remember was the one in which Sam leapt into a space monkey. That shit was stupid.

And yeah, the show was preachy as hell, remember the final episode in which Sam leaps the exact moment of his birth, and goes into a bar full of miners, and the bartender turns out to be "God"? It was interesting episode, but just like the wonder years this show was killed off by the network before they could give it a real ending, so we ended up with the bullshit cop out "text" explination of what ends up happening.

So how did the show end? Did he stop "leaping" and get home or what?

I used to watch this all the time when it was on... then years later on Sci-Fi at midnight when I was in college... then stopped when they stopped airing... it's now on 22 out of 24 hours it seems on Universal HD (cropped I'm guessing) and have yet to watch it again, but I plan to once things calm down for the summer.

He meets god, and god tells him he always had the power to go back home. He never went home becasue by the finale he was able to control were and whenever he wanted to time travel. And the purpose of expirement was to put was once wrong, so he decides to continue on doing it. Using his knew knowlege he goes back in time to save to Al's first marriage, by telling her to wait for al. Al at this time was captured in a pow camp in vietnam..

I was a fan of this show when it was originally on, but whenever it's on now (Universal HD) I have a hard time sitting through an entire episode for some reason. I've seen most of the episodes though. It was a terrific concept that I think was pulled off really well.

I used to watch this show with my dad back in the day. I wish the Akira episode would have come to fruition.

Yeah, Maru is right. At the end he gets to put right Al's life, then from what I remember the end text says that Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home.

There was that one episode where everyone around him kept dying and he couldn't save any of them, Al had no idea what was happening, and then OMG it wasn't Al at all it was the devil telling him to stop fucking with his shit.
