You ever made a huge fuck-up and had no idea you did it? And when you found out, you just had to laugh at yourself?
Here's one of mine I just recently discovered.
I finished school in April. Since then, I've applied for jobs somewhat related to my field (journalism/communications). I got no callbacks, no nothing. I woke up every morning, checked job sites, and sent out a billion resumes. I was getting frustrated, but kept going. Getting a job is hard, after all.
Today was no different, except I noticed something odd about my cover letter template.
Somehow, someone deleted a word from the template. A template family and friends spell-checked and proofed months ago. The word: "may." The sentence: "To whom it may concern."
Irony: One of the last few sentences of my cover letter reads, “I’m a quick thinker with a sharp eye.”
Right there, I'm automatically eliminated from every job I applied for. I was so busy checking the body of the letter that I ignored the first sentence. A sentence I never changed. How this happened I don't know. It wasn't there when I made the template.
After figuring it out, I had to laugh.
I'm a fucking moron.
Anyone else?
