I only drink wine out of a box.
LIAR! We shared a Wolf Blass gold label when you came across the bridge.
Did you smell something?
I drank white russians while you guys drank the wine.Quote:

We can definitely keep it under $70. Most of my favorites are around $60 anyway.
We'll start with cabernets. These are 2 of my absolute favorites:

I never knew a Chilean Cabernet would be so good. Ignore any tasting notes you may read on this. They are usually innacurate. The vintage really doesn't matter on this one as long as it's after 1998. This is by far the best. Tastes like sex.

2003 Chappellet signature Cabernet. Snob wine. This is the "I'm gonna bang you tonight, bitch" wine. Extremely well balanced.
AND NOW THE MERITAGE HA HA HA HA!

1999 Virgin Hills
Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), Shiraz (3.5%), Merlot (8%) and Malbec (3.5%)
This one's australian. It's ok by itsself, but if you drink this with a nice steak (prime rib, filet, ribeye) you will surely be surprised.
One more for now. This one is italian. The Sportoletti Umbria Villa Fidelia Red 1999. Moderately priced, but still fantastic.

If you can find a 1999 you better buy it. It is now at it's prime maturity. There is nothing like a big red Italian wine. Real plum and berry. This shit makes you feel like a million bucks.
When I first started getting into wine, I subscribed to this newsletter called "Arthur Damond's Wine Discoveries - The Guide to Exceptional Wines Under Eight Dollars." Bare-bones website here: http://www.damondswinediscoveries.com/ I'd recommend it to anyone, especially those living in California.
I echo what others have already said about Australian wines in general, and [yellow tail] in particular. Best wine for your money. If you like really full-bodied reds, then California Zinfandels are also good bargains.
If you're going to get into tawny port, buy a 10 or 20 year old. Any younger won't be any good, and any older begins to suffer from diminishing returns, meaning that 30 & 40s are better, but generally not enough to justify the price.
On a tangential note, I recently picked up a bottle of Clase Azul Tequila on the way back from a trip to Los Cabos, Mexico. I never knew tequila could be so smooth, with delicious hints of honey and caramel. Anyone else into premium tequila, cognac, scotch, bourbon...?
Tequila is shit.
