Alien

Alien 3 for the Genesis got rented nearly every weekend by me and a bud of mine, we could never find it for sale though. Great, great game. I also got AvP for the Jaguar, but to be honest I didn't care for it too much. However, it was several years after it was released, and I could see how I would have been nuts over the game had I played it back when it was new, but like the 32x revision of Doom, it's barely playable today.

It's not really an Alien game, but Alien Crush on the TG16 is a pretty good pinball game that is obviously influenced by the movies. The "table" reminds me a lot of the last level of Contra.

Here's a useless factoid. I got a free copy of Jaguar AvP from GameFan for sending in the codes for FIFA on Sega CD. The kicker is that I broke the mapping from the 3DO version to the Sega CD version, so it took about 5 minutes to get all of them. :D

One time when I was 17 I was playing Alien 3 on Genesis and my girlfriend started giving me head while I was playing. I actually made past the part that I had been stuck at durring this superb knob job.

Holy shit the AVP game on SNES is terrible. One of the worst beat 'em ups of all time, and that's really saying something.

Alien 3: The Gun is pretty sweet. I played it a lot when it was next to the Revolution X machine. It's...damn I don't remember it well enough to compare it to other games. I think it was pretty similar to T2 combined with Rev X but not as pretty. The king of all the Alien games is definitely the AvP beat 'em up though. Awesome.

I played the heck out of Alien 3 for the SNES (squirrel). Years later I picked up the Genesis version, but couldn't get into it. After the SNES version, the sega graphics were just awful.

AvP for jaguar is still touted by the jagfiends as being one fo the greatest games ever. It was cool back in the day, but anyone going out to get a jag just for this game will be disappointed. It's framey and pixelated as hell.
One thing that also pissed me off was a lack of jump. You kill the aliens, their blood spills on the floor in front of you, and you get hurt when you walk over it.

I finally had to get off my ass and play AvP on mame. It's pretty fun, but it's rather short. It seems like a pretty standard beat em up.


I also vaguely remember watching people play the 1990 arcade game.

Even back then the frame rate bugged me compared to the PC games I was used to but yeah anyone buying a Jag today solely for AvP will be very disappointed. There are Jag games that hold up well like Tempest, Defender 2000 and Super Burnout but AvP isn't one of them.

Good thread. I've played most of the titles listed, and I think the Alien franchise could make for some very cool games for years to come.

Capcom's Aliens Vs. Predator is the best game by far. I fucking love that game, even to this day.

I remember the Konami arcade game being very cool.

SNES Alien 3 was pretty decent (I recall the animation being outstanding), but the SNES AvP game sucked.

I agree that AvP Jag wasn't so hot even back in the day. Nowadays, it's a framey mess.

Alien Trilogy was very creepy with great atmosphere. I liked it, but I've also tried it again recently and can confirm that it's aged horribly.

Alien Resurrection on PS1 was a giant piece of shit. The control was terrible.

Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction was kinda eh. There's far, far better RTS games on PC.
