I don't remember seeing American Pie. I mean, I must have, but I absolutely don't remember it.
I've never seen it.
to kick it while its down.
Paramount goes back to Blu-Ray

The HD add-on for the 360 does not take up that much space. I don't see the big deal. I can't wait for the HD-DVD boxsets to get cheap too, I will pick those up as well. After that, it's blu-ray for me. If you already have a player, it would be retarded not to take advantage of the sales.
I'm glad I never bought this peice of shit.
hd-dvd add on officially discontinued.
end.
Who wants to start a "blu-ray add-on release date" pool?
I call April 3rd.
At this point, unless MS can configure a 360 and add-on combo that equals the $399 PS3, they're not going to do it. It would be too much negative press.
MS is chummy with Samsung, so there is your drive supplier. The 360 plays HD-DVD without a problem, so the codecs are already there, the only thing they would need to code is BDJ and BD+ support. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD really weren't that different from one another.
They have had a prototype at MS headquarters for over a year supposedly.
Producing a prototype does not equal manufacturing and marketing. We'll see.
For you kids loving your gameboy printers, and DC BBA's the HD-DVD adaptor for 360 is now $50 across the boards.
I have a gameboy printer, but I'm not buying one of these.
GameBoy printers are more interesting than HD-DVD. Easy.
Shit, I wish I had one of those still*. Took neat pictures.
*And the camera.
I have both. also, like, 25 rolls of paper for the printer.
I will look for a back up A30 for $50 :p
I almost bought an A3 for $99 today.
I have the 360 HD, but the thing is so damn loud. I figure silence and less wear on the 360 would be worth a hundred bucks, but the cheapskate inside me said to be patient, they'll get cheaper.
It wasn't loud when I had it, you better treat my baby right, mother fucker.
um...I don't have yours.
I'll buy one for 20 dollars
I just put one on hold for instore pickup, $50 for a backup player and 6 movies ain't bad.
Bummed to find that Justice League: New Frontier isn't out on HD-DVD until next month.
Do they still the 5 free movie offer?
Last I saw it mentioned was three weeks ago. Circuit City had the A3 for $149, it came with 300 and Bourne Identity, as well as the five free mail ins.
The mail-in offer is good for any player puchased by 2/28, and must be mailed by 3/31.
Blu-Ray needs to keep those mail-ins going.
not really. they won.
FYE has a $30 rebate on the 360 HD-DVD player, making it the magical $20:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/...d.php?t=173353
Here's the 5 free movie form:
http://www.thelookandsoundofperfect....ption_form.pdf
I got it at FYE for $50 along with the rebate form for another $30 off. Holler. Also picked up Batman Begins.
isnt the rebate for the console and not the drive?
Also: Planet Earth HD-DVD for $30 on discovery channel's ebay store.
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Planet-Earth...713.m153.l1262
Checked 2 of Hollywood Videos, and no Beowulf for me :(
Deep Discount has alot of $9.98 and $12 with free shipping.
I'm still waiting for my 5 free HD-DVD's from BB's Toshiba offer. Been about 7 weeks.
I'm glad I never bought one of these stupid things.
PS, I'm new on here because I got tired of my old regular forum, how is everybody, I'm jake.
What's up, Jake. You remind me of Malone.
Unfortunately, it seems you have a choice. $30 or movies. Both rebates ask for UPC and you cant make copies.
Call them up. I submitted mine back in like mid-end of October. Got min beginning of February.
I need to find out about my PS3 BR movies. I missed the Amazon BOGO offer they had a month or two ago. I wish they would bring that back
Jake is Granderoho. You heard it here first.
if compass doesn't like you that means i do.
seems circuit city is going with a trade in deal of HD-DVD gear, even if its several months old. Bring it into store, pay the difference on a Blu-ray player or PS3.

Q; What about customers who may try to return an HD DVD player - even if they have owned it for several months?
A: We do not want to upset our valued customers. For this special circumstance, we are happy to offer an exchange for a Blu-ray player (customer pays any difference in purchase price) - even if it has been several months since the customer made their HD DVD player purchase. If the customer does not want a Blu-ray player, we can issue a gift card refund for their original purchase price. For products purchased in the last 30 days, handle as usual.
I take it this is just if you bought it from CC, its not like theyre letting you bring in any HD-DVD player.
Sony and MS talking about a Blu-ray drive.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/06/s...360-blu-ray-d/
Quote:
About 48 milliseconds after the format war was officially over, rumors started running rampant (again) about Blu-ray making its way over to Microsoft's latest console. Now, however, those rumors actually have some legs -- well, at least a leg. According to Stan Glasgow, Sony Electronics US president, "Sony is in talks with console rival Microsoft about offering a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360." For whatever it's worth, the exec also noted that it was having similar discussions with Apple, which has yet to even offer a Blu-ray option on any of its machines. Unfortunately, not a peep was uttered about potential launch dates and the like, but you can rest assured that we'll be keeping an ear dangerously close to the ground.
The local best buy had all HD-DVD's @ 30% off. I don't know if this is an in-store only thing or what. Figured I'd stock up on some before the format completely disappears.
Yeah I grabbed the Blade Runner 5-disc set the other day at my BB for 30% off.
I got confirmation from FYE that my $30 rebate from the 360 HD-DVD drive is good to go too, using the price sticker UPC and not the actual box UPC. Holler.
Movie Dick Gravy night at K3V's!!!
Keep your dick gravy to yourself.
Not until you give me back my game genie
Shut the fuck up.
I've had enough of your jelly beaning lip.
The website doesn't mention it, but many of the online prices work out to be 30% off anyway. There are a few movies that are 10.49 on the site too, I plan on buying them and selecting in store pickup.
I'm waiting for BB to put them down to 50% before raiding their shelves, as much of their stuff is overpriced and can be bought cheaper on Amazon. I'm not sure it will happen though, many stores are choosing to send HD DVDs back to the vendor instead of marking them clearance.
So far I've picked up 6 or 7 HD DVDs, all for $10 or less, except for American Gangster which was $14.
Yeah so anyone remember that whole "BD+ will take 10 years to crack" stuff?
http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/03/19...iscs/#comments
more like 6 months.
LOL DRM.
So can you burn BR movies now or can just rip them to a computer?
The second option. I don't know that blu-ray burners are very common yet.
Best Buy is sending out $50 giftcards to those that bought a HD DVD player before February 22nd. People should have them by May 1st. I'm hoping to have my $100 (HD-A3 when they exchanged it for the HD-A2 and when I bought the Xbox 360 add-on). I'm hoping this applies to BestBuyBusiness sales too
That's a pretty nice gesture on BB's part.
Yes, this is a pleasant surprise. I will apply that $50 towards a game because Best Buy blu-rays are overpriced and it would be a waste of credit.

lol@blu-ray v2.0?
The movies are too expensive compared to "normal" releases. Most non videophile people won't give a shit about better picture quality if every movie costs double its DVD counterpart.
The higher cost is definitely an issue, which is why I only buy through Amazon but otherwise this is no surprise. I'd say the tipping point of mainstream HDTV adoption was this past holiday shopping season where the combination of a complete phase out of CRT/RP sets and an almost complete migration from 720p to 1080p (i.e. Pioneer post-8G) paved the way for reduced price flat panel sets to really take off. But many new adopters still don't know shit about HD. How many of them think they're watching HD broadcasts when they view a stretched 4:3 image while sitting there swearing to you how nice the distorted picture is? This is not a market gauge, but I know quite a few personally.
The mainstream adoption of HD sets has really just started to pick up momentum and it will take a while for the mainstream to realize that they're not currently watching HD, because it should be clear to any fool the visual difference between a quality, non half-assed BD and DVD. Watch the remastered Fifth Element BD and compare it to the Superbit DVD and if you can't notice an appreciable difference, then you should pass on HD entirely.
There's definitely a difference, but like you said, many people are upgrading from their 13 inch fishbowls and wouldn't know their elbow from an asshole.
LOOK AT THAT PICTURE SON!
Yet at the same time, HD broadcast generally look like shit due to compression. I suppose this can depend on cable vs. satellite and which provider you have, but I have yet to watch any HD broadcast on my TV that has wowed me. On the other hand, the same HD broadcast does look substantially better on a 720p set over a 1080p set.
Even on TNL, people are happily listening to triple-transcoded 128 kbps piece of shit MP3s and they just don't give a fuck. Audio quality is obviously much less dramatic than video, but the same ignorance applies. Even Cheebs will get super deep into serious audio quality, but for some reason he doesn't care if he's watching movies or playing games in 240i because it's all the same to him.
People are fucking stupid.
Tommy Tallarico
I'm with ElCapitan. I've watched a BluRay movie that looked good, but every kiosk station I've seen had video riddled with artifacts.
I can see the difference, but I just don't care.
I'm not really paying that much attention to fine details when I watch movies.
The added resolution is a godsend for gaming, though.
So I was at target and saw that predator had finally come out...for 35$. Fuck you guys.
HD-DVD players for 360 are down to 10 euro... (incl. remote) Can you run games from the external drive?
the cheapest one. dont get one or those $50 "HD" antennas.
So any pair of rabbit ears work?
yeah
Well, fuck. I've been had.
I thought I said it earlier in this thread, but if you guys are buying movies from stores like Target, Best Buy etc. then you deserve to get fucked over. Everyone knows that the stores are way more expensive than Amazon.
Looking at a movie that was just recently released, "The Golden Compass", is $21.99 on SD DVD and $25.99 on Blu Ray. Thats hardly "double the price."
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_d/...Golden+Compass
Also....fuck Amazon sometimes too. Just go to www.hidefdigest.com to purchase all your HD DVDs and Blu Rays. I've bought the majority of my collection off of forum members there, so I haven't spent more than $10-$15 on a Blu Ray in ages.
It's $16.99 on SD DVD
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00139W3NE/...E&linkCode=asn
Edit: And, at Best Buy the SD DVD is $19.99 + 8.625% Tax (In NY, probably less elsewhere) = $21.87. Amazon $16.99 + shipping ~$4 or so = $20.99 = .88 savings to have the movie late(r) and this doesn't take Best Buy rewards into consideration. It's not a big difference.
