I don't say boobs all that often, it's too silly of a word in most cases, sounds like you're talking down to a child. If you're talking about a nice pair, they're tits. Don't really use it plural though.

I think it's mostly when women are trying to downplay their sexuality, as in an office setting. "Boobs" is funny and "tits" means business. I prefer the latter but hear women use the former far more often.
