Well, here's the last one in the series. I'm a little annoyed they look like they were done so differently. However, this was really just prep work for my class assignment, where I have to do these in oil, so I'm hoping working on all 3 at once will force some congruence.
That will be painful; I'm actually quite bad at painting. It's really frustrating to do stuff like this and then pick up a paintbrush and turn functionally retarded.

There will be some to sell after the art show, including the ones people specifically asked me for, involving Space Giraffes and a busking bear! The best thing to do is to keep pestering me so i pay attention to that instead of whatever i'm sidetracked with.

You mean for each phase of the animation? I might add some tendrils and animate them wiggling with static end points for effect. The concept of the animation is that he inherits colour from any object he touches. He'll be touching various things to shirt colour like a chameleon. The end is when he touches a rainbow sprinkles donut and goes crazy from the information overload (closeup with rainbow speed lines quizzing by in the bg) I might make his features more grotesque with the zoom in, too, like they do on Spongebob sometimes.

More self-portraits (NSFW). Apparently a healthy dose of narcissism is required for state schools. This was an assignment, so there's some personal context artsy fartsy blah Once I got the figure colors worked out, most the other stuff was just sorta whipped in and could really use a more critical approach, but it's not really worth it.

Yeller and Finch have the same birthday? Heck of a coincidence. JM: Cool design (must get one shell of a headache, harhar), do you ink over pencil sketches, or just jump in freeform (I'm guessing the latter)? I feel like I'm defusing a bomb whenever I need to ink something, so tense and sweaty by the time I'm done. Would be nice to develop some confidence with a PITT pen or ink brush.
Here's some more figure studies (non-facetious NSFW?...I mean, it's art, sorta):
I dig those Fury, the line work makes me feel like you would make nice enravings.
for the most part with my stuff I do a pretty light sketch. I keep it almost gestural, and I just figure out the details as I ink. On that one I just had the spiral of the shell in pencil, all the patterning on it is improvised, likewise with the ribbing on the tentacles. I used a zebra super fine point brush tip pen. I just got it and I think it is the nicest solid brush pen I've ever used. It has pretty great line variation and the tip keeps its shape sooo well even after bearing down on it to get those thicker lines.

Easily one of the nicest pens I have worked with in a while.
While I am geeking out about art supplies, let me recommend the other pen I picked up when I got the Zebra. The Akashiya super fine brush pen. It is pretty fantastic, easily as good as the pilot brush pen, but it has a much finer tip. it is disposable, but I'll probably be keeping it around to dip with once it runs dry. Easily worth the $5.

Fury I share your trepidation about inking things, I have a couple drawings just chilling out in the midway stage right now just because I'm nervous about ruining them with ink. I know I could just draw whatever it is again but it's still a daunting prospect for some reason.
Can any of you recommend a worthwhile drafting table? That'd be rad if you could.
Also: Yeller... Do you want do do the Quarantines labels again or should one of the other guys get the SUPER HONOUR of doing them?
Finch: want to do a sweet painting (?) of the band for our download cards?
Anyone else: want to do art for stickers or shirts or whatever?
Note: we probably can't pay you (outside of records or merch) unless our kickstarter goes nuts.

Also: best drafting tables I've ever had have been Craigslist scores, usually for the price of 'haul this out of my sight'. No idea about brand name, but they were the Right Thing and Cheap. You might have to resurface 'em with some Borco if the table is scored up to shit, appropriate sized sheet of that might run you about $40, most art supply stores that will custom cut paper for you will have that on hand.

Hey! Anyone interested in drawing a logo for a fake root beer bottle for me? Only specs are 1080 pix in height and "Root Beer" needs to prominently be half the logo to be well seen on screen. You can call your root beer company any damn thing you want. I don't care. I can't pay you, but you'll get a credit in my next film! :)

Here is a watercolor thing I started two nights ago. I had no direction in mind at all just started laying down light washes with "face" as my only preconceived notion. Also trying out a little color experiment with this, only using burnt umber and ultramarine blue. I like how it is going so far.

I have grand plans. Would any of you be interested in collaborating on a comic book? We've got about a year and a half before I want to print it.
Actually there are four comic books, two of them have no artist yet. I'd like to have a different artist work on each one. Would any of you be interrested? I wouldn't expect you to work for free.
How big are these comic books? I'd be interested, but that kind of thing wouldn't be cheap.
Size or amount of pages? Drawing or production? I've got an in for the production aspects of things.
I am interested, but it would really depend on the story, schedule, and the type of artwork required. Do you have people for any of the stages (thumbnails, pencils, inks, color, balloons/lettering), or would the artist be in charge of the whole process? I (or whichever artists) could PM if there's a googledoc or something on the net with a project overview.
I'd take a look at that stuff as well if you can shoot me a PM.
Sounds fun Josh! Maybe even have a collaboration between TNL artists for one? Just ideas! I'm terrible at doing things within timeframes but I'd be happy to help contribute to any part of the process.
Cost would be mainly dependent on pages and if you want it colored. Size doesn't matter unless you want something huge or small. I work better on a schedule and with a clear idea of exactly what you want. As long as you're fine with the way i draw i don't really care otherwise.
If TNL wants to collaborate on two of the books I would be so fucking stoked.
It'd be 10 folded 8x10 pages unless there is excess money, then I'd try to go for 15 pages with QUALITY cover. I've a friend who works at a print shop... So printing would be hilariously cheap. There would only be 50 copies (plus artist copies) for each release. I know what all the characters look like, but I can't draw...
Realistically, am I looking at a multi thousand dollar payout for art? I don't know what you guys charge.

SSJN: Haha, yeah Monoke has loomed large in my mind while working on this, but not during my initial sketch phase. I always realize the influences after the fact. I haven't seen that movie since 2000 or so. This is for an Art/Poetry show, and this piece is based on a poem. Said poem is about Hogs eating corpses on a battlefield. I was trying to bring a circle of life, notsofuckinghorrible spin on the imagery. We'll see how it goes.
