I like this one too! As for illustration board, I'd think there's a way to use it without lines dulling color or vice versa. Do a sketch up to a point where you have a good feel for what the lines will be like. Transfer those to the board on something light (like HB pencil), do watercolor, then add the final linework after the whole thing dries!Quote:

I kind of like just using straight pen though. I'm going to try using a lightbox, but i might just stay with felt pens, complete with stray lines. There's a tiny thrill to be had from knowing that ruining a picture is a slip away.

There are no gold cliffs in that game though. There is a key, and sometimes a sword, and crabs, and there is an idol that you have to stab to get a gem. No gold.

Finch, I'm hypoglycemic so a slip is ALWAYS happening. Which is why I draw, redraw, etc. and try to use digital as much as possible. All ink with no guides? Some stuff I do like that looks like it came from a Parkinson's patient.
JM- i love the colors!
I redraw a lot. That Goldcliff picture, as simple as it is, took 20 tries before it went anywhere. Good thing i work for a company that has a lot of paper! I draw until i know what i'm doing before i move on, and then sometimes there are a lot of mess ups. I think i might invest in a tub of gesso soon.
Also, i think shaky drawings look really cool, but you're really good with Illustrator, Hero.

Been drawing a lot! First one is a design idea for my friend's farm SolRise in B-lo. This is revision number 4, more than most people get when they ask for drawings, and I am very annoyed with it. She cannot tell me exactly what it is she wants in there until I've inked it and then she all of a sudden knows what she wants. Don't do that, that's just maddening.
Next is a Megaman! I didn't know I was going to draw a Megaman, so he is kinda boring, but I kinda like him.
Last is detail from a big ol' something I'm starting and will hopefully finish. I'll have to plug in my scanner when it's done cuz there's lots of stuff going on.

Got a pack of pre-cut sketch cards because the art store lady recommended it. However only watercolor were available. In hindsight, next time I'll get cold press or bristol board and use a card template on larger sheets.

Ok finished up fishy guy I think! And finally got my scanner working! Not well, though. I guess I haven't figured this thing out yet. But I really like this fishy guy. I don't tend to like most of the things I draw, but I really like this guy. Think it's going to be my next tattoo, possibly, maybe. I really like that I only used pencil to outline the bottom half, and I only did that because after starting in ink and doing the top half, I was really scared to screw it up so I plotted the area and shape of the tail, then just went to work on the details. This has been fun!!!

Been pushing real hard on this one today
Here's a mock-up (digitally drawn) I did for an oil painting I'm working on. As per usual, my mock-up, even so sketchy, looks much better than my actual painting.
Hero, I really enjoy that picture, the work you're doing on it is really coming along nice! The only thing that throws me off a little is the sign above balding guy, I assume it's saying "Everything must go!", but it looks like in the space provided it could only read "Ing must go!" Definitely not a big deal, but it jumped out at me.
Fury, I love the sketchiness of this, and the little dogs work so well! Great stuff to both!

I like how the guy in the bottom left looks like metal man. I don't remember the other guys so much to tell if they look alike.
So far its:
Dracula, zombie, mummy, devil, Frankenstein's monster, Grim Reaper. Originally I thought of using the closest analogues of current MM bosses for each, but thought instead taking 'classic' monsters and giving them a Megaman look was more fun.
Drew a couple random squiggly lines and saw the face, then still had a lot of time left at work so I drew some more, then I kept on doin it and this is where I'm at.

A couple weeks ago Geen posted a picture of his (someone's?) cat on the banister, and it made me think immediately of Banisher Cat. So I started playing with ideas of this cat with swords and severed heads and portals to hell and all sorts of shit, and none of it looked even REMOTELY good. So then I said fuck it and went a different route and decided to just go with it. So this is Banisher Cat, then.

I really like that bee fellow. You should draw more of him. I think the best advice on colors is to limit what you're using. Pull a limited palette and go from that. Shadowing is all about observation. Best advice: draw a lot and draw from observation and draw what's in your head too
