I'm glad i checked here today. I like you Kidnemo.

Also, I made this:

It has four colors. It took about ten minutes.
Splendiferous! Can you make a cowboy. or an indian. that would make my day!
awesome stuff
A little square headed robot pirate doodle.

i'm drawing another Bola de Fuego poster. I need one of him just standing while flexing or something.
Gas station attendant changes a tire.
Done in photoshop cs with a one pixel non-antialiased brush.
Estimated time: less than seven minutes.

This is my sketch so far. The flexed arm needs work and his head is way too far away from his body. Also the leg on the rock needs to be brought back towards the body a lot.
I'll fix it all in the computer to save time.
Grabbed some doodles out of my sketchbook.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...1&d=1190772425
That's you in the last one, isn't it?
lol no, it doesn't look much like me. I've just been noticing I've only been drawing women for a while, and expectedly, the men I've been doodling have been looking somewhat awkward as a result.
Doodles. FuryFox says doodles.
Dude that's awesome shit right there.
Aliens powerloader inspired:

FuryFox is so fucking talented. I hate him.
yeah. i know he was working on a piece for Blizzard but did they ever nab him?
His stuff looks very J. Scott Campbell-ish. But better. Fucking asshole.
Okay, let's not get crazy here. I'll admit I do like a lot of Campbell's stuff, and it might come through a bit sometimes.
But seriously.
That dude could frickin draw-rape me.
They're way too hot right now, and they have top-notch pro artists from all over the world sending them stuff (and probably tons of wannabes). I don't want to work for them SO BAD that it's worth dealing with that much competition.Quote:
Blizzard?
I like how he gets strapped in from every angle...I'm sure getting strapped in from the crotch up seems like a great idea until that's the strap needed to keep you in, heh. I also like his big "claw game" hands...I can see that young boy soon driving to murderous rage after endless attempts at grabbing things that just slip away.Quote:
powerloader
I think it looks pretty good, but something I notice here that was evident in earlier drawings was the under-represented shoulder structure. Also remember the bicep actually ties in under the pectoral muscle. I know you're fixing things up digitally, but I couldn't help but notice his slightly googly eyes...tequila party in the desert, eh senior?Quote:

FuryFox, what are you doing for work lately?
This is very nice. I wish i could've bought a poster from you a few months ago. ): maybe one day when i am employed again.
also, kidnemo, yore pictures are beautiful. The mechanistuff (<3 <3 <3 the car!!!!) is amazing. pls draw more like that
and also

i know it isn't a drawring, but i designed, cut (except for most of the little triangles and the circles), and assembled every piece myself from foam sheet. i am proud of it because it can stand on its own with no glue and tape only to hold the tail and the fire. i built it because one of the kids my girlfriend sits requested a foam dragon and he was having a bad day yesterday. ;_; it took me a little over 10 hours to complete.
It's badass Finch, it's badass.
;_; thank you
Dargon is awesome.
I am a huge fan of hand made crafty stuff that is cool.
Unemployed and homeless, I hope. Bastard.
And Kid, you're damn creative and you have a very attractive and distinct style. You can go fuck off as well.
And fuck Finch and his beautiful hand-crafted dragon. Arrgghhh.
Is it obvious that I'm jealous because I'm lazy and don't pratice nearly as much as I should? I really, really need to get my ass in gear...*sob*
Nah I decided to go back to work on the hard copy. I worked on it on Wednesday night and fixed some stuff. I'd rather just have it the way I like it going in. The eyes are something that are trivial in the hard copy to me. He's supposed to kind of be spaced out, but the position of the pupil and the eyelids can be changed slightly and the effect change so drastically it really needs to be done on the computer before any headway can be made. Thanks for the pointers. I'm going to be reworking it before the final comes out. I think I'm going to put both of his hands on his hips. Seems like a less-awkward pose for him to take, even on a vanity poster.
I love walking in to the boardroom and seeing new people's reactions to the work. It's second only to completely client work and having them love it 100% with no changes on the first try.
That's awesome. You suck at being unemployed. You're supposed to wake up at 12, walk around unshaven and surf the net all day. Who do you think you are to make the rest of the unemployed look so bad with 10 hour dragon crafts?
besides spending a few hours a day working on new artwork, that's pretty accurate. from 8-whenever i fall asleep i'm usually watching King of the HillQuote:

I drew this tonight while at work. The bottom half needs some more detail, but I couldn't think of how to go about it, so it remains a bit bare.
Also note, the shitty Xbox Live Camera quality:

I would like to draw more of this one, flesh it out a bit, maybe do a little mini comic about it:

More work time fun.
Uploaded via a crappy scanner this time instead of the ol' Live camera.
What the hell is that?
steam shovel = double grawesome. i would love to see the ship in a video game
I might be working on a jungle-themed children's project soon, so I was doodling some stuff in that vein. I find it remarkably hard to break out my normal style of drawing, especially without a different example to follow.
dude you're amazing. your stuff never ceases to blow me away. do you do much color stuff also or just tend to stick with b&w?
I don't think blogspot supports linking, but I do have some doodles up:

lots of Wolverine and Spiderman. And a black mage in there somewhere. And the dude with the stern look? I was watching the Daily Show and sketching Tony Snow (the dude who used to work in the White House under Bush).
lookin good, i like the sketches.

P.S. I'm totally buying the pink t-shirt.
If I has the money you would be the primary sound designer for my cell phone/portable gaming divsion.
Instead I need to worry about purchasing cereal.
I did listen to it though (and actually that is pretty old right, I remember hearing that before I believe)...
And I doodled this up this morning, I think grim is listening to it too:

Yeah. Its old as hell.
I'd trade some music for a t-shirt...
When I get some free time in between client jobs and I can get back to working on the cute grim reaper game I will "trade" you some money for music.
Speaking of the grim reaper, I am going to flesh this out into a big ass painting I think:

Wow that guy is really great. For a fighter you really get a sense of how gangly and awkward he would be to fight by how peculiarly hunched he is. Very cool.
Girl's got some booty.
Heh, well, there was this Sprite ID challenge of DeviantArt, and it looked like too much fun to pass up. There's some more pieces to final product, but here's what I've generated so far. I've never done pixel art before, and I realize anyone who does is going to groan at all the slops in my sprite, but it's only worth so much time fixing for this silly DA thing. I referenced my lovely mug from the Face-Off thread for the portrait, and I like how it turned out.
edit: oh yeah... the challenge is essentially to design yourself as a fighting game character, with sprite, portrait, and some other stuff I'm still putting together.

Looking good!
(but aren't you bald?)
BaldING. I just shave my head. I'd grow it out if I was going to join the IRON FIST TOURNAMENT, hoping to go Heihachi style in my older years.
Here is some stuff I entered into a group show. The show was hung salon style & the size had to be no greater than 8X12. I did 9 scratchboards in about seven days to have stuff to enter. It was short notice.
Here are a couple of the pieces I put up.
The birds are a bit more commercial, but as you can tell from my other work I really like drawing & painting them. These were quick & easy, and I think they came out good.
Starling Chick 5x7
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...rlingchick.jpg
Birches 5x7
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...riven/buzz.jpg
These two girls were part of a series of six. They were done on clayboard & I did the ink myself, doing all the detail work in the overlapping areas and the faces with the scratching tool.
Girl #1 5x7
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...iven/Girl4.jpg
Girl #2 5x7
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ven/Girl-1.jpg
This one is a regular scratchboard. I actually did this one a couple of weeks before the show.
Breeze 8x10
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...en/Breeze1.jpg
Girl 2, Breeze, and Starling Chick all sold at the reception. :)
That sounded cool, JM. I have no idea how you plan out some of those scratchboard compositions...seems like you'd be making overlapping contour line mistakes all the time. What do you mean by "salon style"? -also, it's interesting to me that the event was focused on 8x12 or less pieces. I find the art-buying tendency gravitates toward things larger than "what I could print out myself with my computer (hyuk)"...but it sounds like there was activity at your event.
update: I finished my sprite ID thing. The backgrounds colors were pre-determined so it blends in with the DeviantArt UI.
http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs25/f/20..._otherdane.jpg
Heh, for the swirly girls, there really isn't any planning at all. I just put down a lot of swirly ink & splatter it around. Then I just slowlay make some parts overlap others, then bring in the lines to the dark part. After that I just find a face I like & put it in the middle.
Salon style is a way of hanging a show that is kinda all over the place. You really fill up the walls in an overloaded fashion. generally with only 3 - 6 inches of space between the work, with everythign mixed up all over the gallery. There was a large varity of styles present, from Oils, Photography, Acrylic, Etchings, engravings and probably other things that I'm forgetting.
As for the size thing, the smaller size tends to keep the prices down, that can have a big effect on someone actually laying down some cash. Hell, the last show I was in, both the pieces I put up were over a grand each. I sold 3 pieces here & didn't even make half that. Still every little bit helps, and the encouragement of actually selling shit is good for the work ethic.
I dig your character pic, especially the portrait in back. Good work as usual.
JM
JM I really like the starling chick! The eye looks really cool for some reason, I keep noticing it.
A figure I drew for a seperate composition...probably should have drawn them together, since the background is painted and probably won't mesh well, but this easy enough to do on its own.
edit: well, done with that. It has faults, but it's not worth anymore time.
edit2: Well, apparently it was worth a bit more time. I fixed some stuff that was really bugging me.
looks awesome! I also like the pixel sprite ID... I needa learn how to do that :[
fury, I love the painterly background on that piece, but it really doesn't go with the character. I'd love to see more stuff done in that style from you.
Also, here is a little doodle from me:

My roommate apparently has some issue with uploading the pics from her decent camera, so shitty camera phone captures will have to suffice for now.
First one is something I came up with from listening to the Machine Head song "Davidian", the chorus line being "Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast"
Second pic idea was from my roommate's biology book. I was all about sharks as a little kid, so I figured what the hell.
The third one is actually trunicated, because on my phone's screen the whole thing is hard to see. I'm sure there are maybe a few folks here who can still appreciate this one.
Last one is a tattoo design for my roommate. She asked, I did.
That Raphael is pure berserker.
Here's something I was working, then got pissed at, then desaturated and threw a diffuse glow on and said whatever.
Her boobs look lopsided to me. I cannot for the life of me explain why, but every time I just glance at them, they seem off.
Me 2. I think the vertical stripe on her right is too straight, if there is more curvature, the right boob wouldn't look smaller.

Nice Kidnemo! That first one and the mushroom guy stand out to me. I think they just used the 1pt pencil effect the best, without to much scratchiness or line reinforcement. The robot in the field gives a nice sense of space and scale for such simple linework.
Here's something I did for a different forum.
edit: yes I know lolfurry it was supposed to be an animal-human hybrid design, and I said, "like a furry?" and they were like, "well no" and then I learned to set the flow on my brushes and then it turned out pretty well I think
The face freaks me out for some reason (not because it's bad, but because I think alien animal looking things are a mild phobia of mine). The hooves-feet are fucking awesome. Don't know why I signled that out, but I really like them.
Finished up an illustration project for my art class earlier this week:
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1.../young_ill.jpg
The poem was by someone who came to visit our campus last Thursday:
The colors seem to work well, but this composition itself is not that strong. As I attempted to re-draw the tangle of trees I had in the original pencil sketch (might try to scan that in later today), I found that I lacked the shadowing/shading skills that were necessary to keep all the vines/branches as clear as they are in the pencil sketch. The result is that I ended up having to scrap all the detail in favor of a more formless, mono-black background. This takes away a lot of life from the illustration, but alas, as many times as I tried erasing and starting over, I just couldn't get all the details shaded decently enough to keep it intact. The road suffers from similar problems, as it also had some detail sacrificed because of potential shadowing/shading issues; the edges of the road where the grass meets the dirt is also cropped a bit too neatly. The other major victim is the character at the back of the path, as her shape lacks any kind of refinement/shadowing.Quote:
"East Window, Moon"
It shadows the bed with a lattice of light,
this moon whose ridge pole sinks beneath its own weight,
rising slowly, laboriously, late.
I'm in a new house, unfamiliar to my feet,
strange to fingers that touch the walls uncertainly
as I walk through the dark of it at night.
Outside, different trees, different stones on the path.
Closer to death I want to know great faith and great doubt.
What no one taught me, that's what I want to remember,
immersed like Blake, his inner eye
A storehouse for the infinite
flashings that fontanel let in, before it knit the bone door shut.
I have always been alone, and I have never been alone.
What I used to call the self is a windowing of light
in the flood plain of the boundless.
-- Margaret Gibson

I really dig it, only thing I thought looked off was the scope on the rifle seems not in line with the rest of it (like it's falling off the side of the gun). Besides that great stuff.
Everyone else on this page was awesome, too, I just didn't want to make a gigantic post singling each one out. Great work everyone, keep em coming.

A friend of mine. I'm trying to get better at portrait work.
You've got it down well, you've got the features in at the right spots which is key. I just started doing portraiture this year and I've fallen in love with it. I think as far as improvements it looks a little wider/flatter than reality, probably because of the way you've simplified the lighting. The strong jaw line probably isn't so defined in real life or has more shadow under it.
I guess I have been doing stuff I can show here, now that I see yours. All I have on me are some pretty poor studies, though. I totally destroyed the eye placement on the ink one and the pastel I stopped before I even got into the eyes, hah. Both friends. Ink kind of sucks when you don't realize you've made a mistake until after you've worked around it for a while.
JM, she's cute and now has appeared in at least 2 works (as far as I can tell), go get her man. Again, awesome work.
And Dunlap the style of the second one is just great, I love the shade work and the shadowing and everything, keep em coming.
Thanks Pinapple, I'm working on it.
Two idea sketches, then the final product:
final product is actually pretty nice Weeman, I like the idea.
Hey JM, what's up? Just a few thoughts on the red portrait.
First off, the proportions are great. You've done a nice job there so the rest should be easy.
Your drawing as is is completely washed out, all midtone. Some of that may be due to the scan/photo but it looks like it's mostly the drawing. Try to be a lot bolder and more decisive with your lines. The drawing needs dark darks, light lights and the shades in between. Really get the most out of the paper's natural tone for the mid areas.
Find the light source and exaggerate it slightly if need be for effect. Instead of just adding white pencil all over the drawing, be extremely selective as to where you use it. Used sparingly your highlights will be far more effective and really make the drawing pop. Use the same sort of thinking for the darkest areas, and really select careful and appealing shapes. Focus on specific shapes rather than hairy bland lines. This is especially important for the hair and the planes of the face. You might consider some vine charcoal for laying in broad areas of the hair.
Finally, try and make all of your lines follow the forms they are describing. The neck especially feels flat because the lines don't follow the form at all.
Not trying to be a dick, I just think a little effort focused in the right areas would improve your work quite a bit.
(even a simple brightness/contrast tweak brings the drawing out quickly)
thanks for the constructive crit. It is always welcome. I'm gonna start another one today, so I'll try to keep this in mind. I'll post pics when I'm done.
dunlap, the pastel portrait is great. the hair is awesomely done.
Wow, I love this thread. There's some crazy talent here.
I get bored at work and take breaks, usually by looking up some reference stuff online then sketching it out.
Here's a pic of some stuff I did on my desk, along with a list I keep for work with a hand drawn on it.
It's from my camera phone, which takes poor quality shots, but you get the idea.
I found some more portraits. Sorry for the bad lighting. If anyone really wants me to, I can retake some of them. The profile is a self portrait!
Those are really good. Done from life?
Not bad Dunlap. The black dude is the best, great color choices in the face/head.
When you do things like the folds between the tit and shoulder of the girl profile- try and simplify them and pick a few that best describe what's happening. Make sure to also wrap around the form.
Dunlap, you are a talented cat!
Oh, I said I was the profile, but there are more than one. I'm the last one.
It's all from life drawing with a time limit, so like on the black dude I worked up the head and hands but didn't bother with the clothes so much. Good observation on the folds, Cigs. I should have looked for that with my time instead of trying to reproduce the abstract shapes. Thanks, ya'll.
Shoot. I was hoping for some Dunlapness.
Dunlap, can we just get this all over with and get married? I'm tired of not being gay. The price for my love is an occasional Disney cartoon, some vitamin water, and a pack of Marlboro 27's when things are down. Come on buddy, i'm easy to please.
thar
