Yet another portrait of my gf. It is so nice not having to scrounge for someone to sit for pics. =)

The nose is a little wonky and the ears seem somewhat low. Otherwise it's looking pretty good.
If you don't already, try looking at your drawings in a mirror. The flaws will jump right out at you.
Oh snap JM you gonna let him talk about your girl like that?!
HAHAHAHAH I guess I'll let him get away with it this time. If it happens again I'll have to head out to California an do some ass whipping. =)
Wow, that's really awesome.
Damn John, that shit looks awesome! Now mail it to me so I can give it to my wife for Valentine's Day and tell her that I drew it.
hahaha, will do.
unf!
Oh man that dang ol' Wally!
Couple of things I've done semi-recently. First one has been kicking in my head for a few months, I was on an Astro-Creep 2000 kick. Color and sharpie marker. The other one is MS Paint.

New illustration. I mimicked the Kazu Kabuishi style for the water (lots of colour ribbons). Which is why I call it Ribbons. I'm going to use this for a Five Alive pitch piece due end of month. The final will probably have more fruit on surfboards in it. But I won't be posting very much for the next 2 months so atleast you get the jist of what I wanted for it.

Ribbons
I would buy a print of that!
No, for real - would you sell a print of it? Or can't because of legal ramifications?
Drewbacca - Thats fantastic! I especially love the clouds.
Still really rough. Been working on it over lunch breaks for the past couple of days.
Wasn't (and still) not really sure where I was going to go with it, it's my first try at actually getting something down in almost a year...
I like where you're going with that. Head seems a bit wide though, doesn't quite fit the leaner body type. Dig the shading.
Hey Drew, that's fucking rad, sir. Great colors!
Couple'a doodles, couple roughs:

It came to me in a dream!
Indeed!
Slightly anachronistic WIP, inspired by that 'donuts' fellow:

Lovin' the sketches YD, especially the megaman composition coming up...fits the cartoony universe. Seems like the finished drawings lose a bit of the flavor the initial rough has (esp. gorilla and t-rex), which is usually the case with sketches, but I'd try to capture that liveliness. A lot of times with my own sketches I'll see something I liked that never made it into the refined drawing, even though the finished piece is more technically finished.
Here's a cleaned up sketch I did for a local project. I thought the sex of this character was still up in the air but after I was informed it's definitely male, so this drawing is useless now, ah well. It was originally a sketch on newsprint to warm-up, but I liked it enough and the paper kinda fits the western motif they want.
Nice yeller! I'm glad to see the stuff still rolling in from you. When are we gonna see that raptor piece you started for the DS album?
Man, I haven't posted anything up in such a long time, I have been really busy doing portraits, I think I did 7 of them in the last 8 weeks. I'm also going to be in two art shows, one group, and one split with another local artist, in the next 4 months.
I'll get something up for it soon, currently under a deadline and it got back-burnered, like many things seem to...
Sounds like portraits are going gangbusters sir!
yeah, they were. I was just focusing on passing out my card at work and showing people examples of my work. Now that they started laying people off last week I doubt that my methods will work quite as well. I guess that is ok for now since I have so much to prepare for with my personal artwork.
If you'd like to see any of the portraits I have photos of all of them. I just didn't think this was the place to post them. I doubted anyone would care. =)
Throw 'em up! :D
A couple of character roughs
I dig this direction you're going in, Fury! Reminds me a lil' bit of Ashley Wood.
I had to look up who that was /shame
...and, yeah right I wish : p
Apparently design-by-committee means another version of the gal was needed.
Couple of more:
Process shit:

Taking a lot of progress shots so I can look back and streamline the process a bit, excuse me if it's annoying.
Next is gee-tar, Le Malta amplifier, background. I seem to have forgotten that little red crest on his chest, easily fixed though!
Who should be on drums?
Having a hell of a good time lately. :D
I dig all that you're putting up, Fury! Keep crankin' em out sir!
Sorry for the crappy scan. I'm a bit out of practice and went for a simple scene to screw with color and layout.
I don't use DeviantArt or anything like that. But it's the best option. That isn't to say it's a good option. Just that the alternative offerings in the field don't seem any better.
We should make one. It would be swell. And we could boss people around until everyone else kicked us out of the company.
I just added you, YD. I think DA is a fine site, although there's a lot of retards and bad art onthere.
I like your Raptor, captures the character for sure, but what about Le Malta!? That doesn't look too comfortable with the toes, but I guess it's kinda "metal".
I just figured the toes would be more fun to draw like that in the moment. They were. :D
I figure, Zombie? Ain't too worried about toe comfort.
Le Malta's comin' with the rest of the background, don't you worry!
Added!
Quick sketches at the museum.
Hey, nice trunk!
:d
that's not mangos! He should be going n__n;;
Weird thing I drew.
An homage to a quirky illustration by Joe Mad/Arnold Tsang, featuring all the SF girls up throgh A3. Instead I went for a WoW face-off, featuring females of each race. I think it will be much easier to read once colored.
I intentionally simplifed the outfits because most WoW characters look indistinguishable from each other when all geared up, and the shoulder pads alone would take up all the space.
edit: yowch, I need to fix some tangents, especially that one between the night elf finger and troll shoulder.
if you are drawing that for fun, it is fine....but...
if you are trying to improve your technical drawing ability (mechanical things), that guitar is horrible. You left off a lot of key details like knobs, frets, nut, tuners, bridge, pick ups, etc. And the symmetry of the neck is off. And the string spacing is horrible.
I'm just say'n.
Oh dear, I've stumbled onto someone's trade.
Maybe I revise it. Maybe I don't? Is mystery.
Do you solve it?
I do appreciate being called out on the dance floor when I'm wrong. I'll have to put a little more care into that next time, clearly! Thanks, sir!
I wasn't trying to be mean. Just offer up some objective criticism. You rarely draw ridged objects, so I thought maybe Yeller is week on that, and wants a push.
as it stands, the guitar kind of takes you out of the picture. Other than lacking detail, the perspective is off on it. The body sets at an angle, but the neck is flat, making the neck look like a piece of cardboard. At that angel, you probably should see the neck pocket where the neck connects to the body. The neck looks like it setting at an angle other than 90 degrees with the bridge. And the angles of the points of the flying V are bad off. But the worst offender if you have a fret board going all the way down to the butt of the guitar. I'd probably not noticed how bad the guitar was if not for that catching my eye.
But maybe you were just doodling. Well, if that was the goal, leave the strings off and get the angel of the neck right and have the fret board end at a reasonable place. Done. Easy peasy
here is some source material if you want to redo it. A real flying V, some gorillaz doodles, and a pic of raptor.
The pic of the actual guitar model would have probably been sufficient.
Also, <3 Midnight Bliss Raptor
ALSO, what do people get called out for on dance floors?
Dance challenge, duh.
Um, thanks for the roladex, 'cheeks?
rolodex
I'm going to throw you off a cliff as soon as I get a chance, you motherfucker.
<3
So, I got around to coloring this pic...ended up being a much bigger project than I first thought. I didn't want to lose the cartoony colors of the WoW universe, but didn't want a total eyesore either with all the different outfits/hair/skin. I might try re-balancing the colors again later but I need to put this aside for a while.
My god at this guitar mistreatment
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!
Harrumph harrumph!
Nice colors Fury!
Love the freckles, Fury!
That is seriously impressive Fury, nicely done!
Thanks a lot, guys, I was pretty happy with this one. I feel like I'm making progress...I want it to look less like I'm just "coloring in the lines", give the characters more weight and form, but I don't want to lose the comic feel either.

Messing about on lunch break.
Also a bitch in progress.
Where'd his tooth go?
Be careful opening bottles kids!
Looks like he just smelled a fart.
One smart fellow, he felt smart.
Two smart fellows, they both felt smart.
Three smart fellows, they all felt smart.
Doodled this Cammy at work. Proportions are fucked but it was one of those things I just started without blocking it out first.

Nice sketch! What's work for you?
technical helpdesk (taking phone calls).
Great time for drawing!
I like that a lot, Ooriel!
Ba-bump!
I'm still lousy at digital painting, but this is better than a lot before.
Looks like something you should sculpt!
Hmm...that could be fun!
BUT in the meantime, I did character turns today!
I just realized that I haven't post anything FOREVAAAAAA !!!
Here's a digital painting I just finished - I've just spent a week in Florida and that image came to my mind. Hope you like it ;) (Deviant Link)

Bwahahahaha perfect. :D
That shark is awesome!
Thanks !!!! :)
Here is another one I finished this week: (Deviant Link)

Donuts is damned good. As always. Fuck that guy.
So much love... ;)
Yeah donuts, these realistically-rendered guys suit your style really well.
Here's a guy I did recently for a project I'm working on.
Fury I'm loving that and Donuts... that is seriously great. The lighting and composition of it are just wonderful, I'm very impressed. This might be the best thread ever.
Hey FF, a possible client wants me to color some pages much in the same way you handled that last character. When I do digital painting opposed to vector work, it tends to look more airbrushed. Is there any vid tutorials that adequately go over the kind of process you do?
Or if anyone knows, it'd be a great help. I spent two hours digging around youtube and finding a lot of speed painting vids with little in-depth explanation.
Hero, I don't have any video links. I threw together some steps.
1. Scan and clean up line work
2. Reduce lineart opacity, flat out the color blocks
3. Pick a light source and shade everything with the brush I attached. I tweak the settings all the time, but try out 85% opacity, 35% flow. I use an old Wacom Intuos 2 with whatever settings the default drivers provide. For every color block I picked a darker, cooler tone and scribbled in the shadows (all the guys need to use the same colors so keeping it simple).
4. highlights and photoshoppy touch-ups
Hope that helps?
Indeed! I think its the flow, opacity, and brush options that I have the hardest time fiddling with to give the best results. Which usually means I end up using default PS tools for a lot of stuff.
I'll try the brush and those tips out! Thanks!
I've been spending a lot of time in photoshop lately using a borrowed 12 x 12 Intuos 3. I just screwed around for about 3 week drawing monsters and test stuff but now I'm attempting to make my first piece of personal artwork in the style that I would normally paint in. I'm using a lot of custom brushes and so far I'm really liking it. I'll post up some stuff soon.
It is. There is so much awesome in the pages. And people aren't generally dicks in Galleria (or Art block, whatever it's called these days).
Not sure it's the exact same thing, but Kazu Kabuishi from bolt city / copper / amulet has a tutorial on how he gets it from page to final digital.

I drew another of my little mans.
I made a mini-sculpture trophy for a baking competition my work is holding. Every year we have an annual summer BBQfest event. Just to chill out, eat burgers, talk, etc. This year they're having a bake-off and the winner gets this trophy. I've dubbed it "The Golden Brown" award.
I have absolutely no idea how to sculpt. This is my first try (pretty obvious). Took me 4 hours + an hour for gold paint.
Toothpick?
?
Did You Use A Toothpick On The Details
Some wooden sculpting thing I bought with the clay. It's kind of like big fancy toothpick. If I had more time I would have molded the apron, strings and stuff directly on to the form. I only had about 3 - 4 hours to crank this thing out including 40 minutes of bake time, so I short-cutted it. The first try I made kept tipping over. In a perfect world his legs would have been gangly and long.
I like the concept! He's a neat lil' guy. You should do a 'mark II' sometime.
I was thinking the very same. I think I really love sculpting. Without a time constraint I can really put something in to it. I obviously just need to practice more. I don't know the techniques or tricks yet that help you to technically achieve your creative goals.
Version 2 will have a mustache, I've decided.
