Judging Others and Authority
How "bad" does a person have to be before they are unfit for leadership or respect?
I'm asking this question because I got to thinking about it after my mother talked crap about AJ for like the 3rd or 4th time. Despite all the apparent humanitarian work she has done, it would seem that it matters little when compared to all the other insane and "sinful" things she has done in her past (ex: keeping her husband's blood in a little glass necklace. S&M. Rumored lesbian acts.)
Personally I disagree with judging people because of one or two parts of their character. I don't fallow the Christian ideal that one spec of "sin" blackens the entire spirit. Also, if history has taught me anything, the weirdest and some of the most "sinful" people make the best leaders. Ben Franklin and Jefferson come to mind. I don’t care what you do in your bed, I care what you do in your office.
Most Americans would disagree with me however. "mud slinging" wouldn't work if everyone believed what I believed. Many people will completely disregard someone if they do this or that, despite long records of helping society.
Why is this being posted on TNL and not my LJ? I thought it was worth discussing because the knowledge landscape is changing. The government/those in power now have the ability to know more and more about people. Also the internet has allowed people to get their hands on things that the average person/Christian would call "sinful." It would become really easy for say, a nerd with high IQ and great social standing to be completely ruined by it being made public that he has porn on his computer.
So,
1)How "bad" does a person have to be before they are unfit for leadership or respect?
2)Do you think technology will be abused in the future to hurt the weird/intelligent. Why/why not?
