I'm thinking of leaving the country after I finish JC and college. I want to live in a place well known for being deep into art and culture, but besides Tokyo, Paris and surpringsly East Berlin I haven't seen a lot of choices. Does anyone on TNL know any other really nice places for artists to live? You can include any american city you want.

Excellent. One less "artist" in the US is never a bad thing. Starbucks' stock probably dropped though.
There is an area for that stuff in most cities, Brooklyn in NYC, Silverlake in LA, most of San Fransisco.
Stormy just beat me to Brooklyn. It's a great place for cheap museums, Pratt Institute is located right by Myrtle, and there's always something going on, art fests, and the Cherry Blossom gardens, etc.
Stop encouraging him to stay in the US. You'll cost the rest of us tax dollars.

Have you been to Brooklyn? It is a huge borough, some of the area you will never be able to afford.... I live very close to Pratt, it is a very nice area and getting nicer all the time. But even here, a studio will run you at least $1000/month.Quote:

I am confused by this whole thread. What do you mean "artistic" place? Aren't almost all places deep into art and culture in their own way? I can't think of a metropolitan area without an appreciation for the arts. Are you just asking for a list of metropolitan areas?
Do you mean somewhere where paintings sell? Where you can learn about art? Do you mean a place with graphic design jobs?
Unless you are an artistic genius of some kind, you need to make money doing other things than expressing yourself, no?

Philly isn't really the nicest city in the world though. It does have some decent schools and there is nice areas but generally I wouldn't want to live in the city itself.
