alls I know right now is that if you wanna go extremely cheap, Asrock is amazing. I've dealt with three of them, zero trouble at all. I really don't understand how these motherboards are as cheap as they are.
But I really don't know what you're looking for.
Well...
AMD or Intel?
What socket?
Are you planning on playing games?
Do you need an AGP or a PCI-Express slot?
SLI or Crossfire?
Do you need onboard sound/video?
What about onboard USB/Firewire/LAN?
And most importantly:
How much do you have to spend?
Answer those questions, and then we'll be able to help.
I'm using an Asus A8N deluxe
I have no experience with these motherboards, but they are so cheap (price-wise) that I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable buying one.Quote:

Actually, the more I look at Asrock the more appealiing it seems. Asus barely makes any mobos with both AGP and PCI-Express slots, and I think I want this because I'm not sure I'm gonna have enough money to buy a new video card, CPU, and mobo at the same time, and I'm thinking I wanna start with the CPU and mobo just to get it out of the way. I have an AGP video card right now and it'd be nice if it could still work in the new mobo.
So yeah, you better be right Tain!

I really want to have a nice editing machine.
No, decide on the processor before the mobo.
Really? Why?
That's the hard part as well. I like those dual core, but I hear there isn't anything that takes advantage of it yet and they are very costly.
Because it's ultimately the more important choice in the matter. You should have a specific processor in mind and then from there you can look at mobos that support that processor.
Rather than let the mobo determine what processor you'll get, just decide yourself.
With so many different ones out there, I have no idea what is the one i should get. I hear that AMD are better for games and Pentiums are better for video editing. What do you suggest?
