Do you know how they fixed it? They made a little robotic set of lenses to compensate for the small changes zero gravity caused to the original lens. They also found a way to mount this inside with out changing the design of the telescope. They figured this all out on earth and got it fixed their first time up to work on it.
If it hasn't sunk in yet, all of what I just said requires an absurd amount of math and precision. NASA does some amazing shit, and considering the precision it requires to get anything into space, and get it to work, I’m surprised they don’t fuck up more often.
