I don't know if our colleges are better, but a lot of foreigners like em, especially for the sciences.

Perhaps it is because a US degree will let you work in any country in the world. Or perhaps it is because our colleges will take just about anyone from another country to make themselves look spiffy to prospective students. Maybe our colleges are cheaper than their schools.

I have no idea. But other country's like our schools, for whatever reason.

I dont think there's many actual comparisons of schools across continents, actually. Aside from that one. There is one published in the UK but I've heard its methodology is quite questionable.

I also dont think how someone can not think American universities are pretty much the top in the world. It's one of the things this country still does right. For now, at least.

The reason is that they are better.

For the record, I'm not trying to disparage other country's schools, I'd love to get the chance to study at Sorbonne, or LSE, for example. But yea, there's a reason everyone comes to study here, and why some book about how some Chinese lady's daughter got accepted to Harvard is a top seller in China.

The reason the shuttles are still used is because before Columbia we already started on the ISS, otherwise the whole rest of the fleet (Discovery and Atlantis) would be retired and scrapped. But, we're in a position where we either keep using shuttles and finish up this massive undertaking or 1.) put the burden on the largely corrupt and even MORE underfunded Russians to keep ISS afloat 2.) abandon ISS.

Why is this a shocker? The world evolves around money period. If it wasn't for money itself, we wouldn't be constricted into what we could create. Most of the "advanced" things people see could have been done years ago anyway.

Nasa uses old crap because thats all their budget allows them to afford.

Oh yea, there are very very smart people working there, just like the one who fucked up on the billion dollar telescope.... I wonder if he is still working.

Actually Cow's a moron (lol, surprise) China's universities are fine institutions that produce many credible academics (and even house some of the finest from the West through exchange programs).

Do you know how they fucked up the telescope? They didn't take gravity/zero gravity into account when grinding the lens.

Do you know how they fixed it? They made a little robotic set of lenses to compensate for the small changes zero gravity caused to the original lens. They also found a way to mount this inside with out changing the design of the telescope. They figured this all out on earth and got it fixed their first time up to work on it.

If it hasn't sunk in yet, all of what I just said requires an absurd amount of math and precision. NASA does some amazing shit, and considering the precision it requires to get anything into space, and get it to work, I’m surprised they don’t fuck up more often.

take Japan's schools for example. You have to take a test at a certain level to have the right to go on to the next level.

Are those "stupid" kids really "stupid". Thats another problem. There are so many influences, and variables that should be taken into consideration, but no one cares. You learn it this way, and thats it. The system is designed for one type of person.

My point is that most people seem to make them sound like GOD. Wow they did that, maybe they should have took THAT into consideration before hand etc etc. I never said they were NOT smart either.

OH, and is the guy who fucked up still working there?
