Army of Two -Official 360/PS3

I was reading the newest issue of egm and it's cover story is the top 50 coolest new games (best original games coming). As I got to #2 I was quite surprised to see that it was Gears of War. It was then that I though, "what new original game could be more anticipated than Gears?" "Army of Two?"
At that point, I called bullshit big publisher buying the top spot. I've seen about 2 screens and heard pretty much nothing about this game. egm had about a 5 page write up on the game. I caught a blurb about revitalizing the two-buddy action of games like double dragon, contra and bad dudes, so I read on. I can't believe there has not been any talk about this game, it sounds pretty freaking rad. Co-op is the game, not an add-on and the AI promises sounds too Molyneuxisc to be true. Oh, that and if your partner gets shot, you can stick a tampon in his arm to stop the bleeding (not shitting you).

Since I write like shit and no sites have decent write ups, I scanned the article for your reading pleasure.

Couldn't find any videos, but this clip has a couple seconds of footage and interviews from the article

I thought tampons are supposed to absorb blood, not stop bleeding.. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to use one as a first-aid type thing.

But whatever, I guess they're trying to be funny or clever or something..

The game looks good.

This game looked awesome... that is before I actually read the preview in the EGM. The basis on co-op play sounds neat, but it also sounds a bit crippling. Games like Double Dragon, Contra, and Bad Dudes were awesome buddy games, but they can still be played single-player (although definitely not as fun). I don't really like the fact that almost everything you do in Army of Two is dependant on the other character, whether the game is played single player or with a friend. The second character should make the game a little easier and more enjoyable, rather than being a requirement.

Also, the "mature" elements of random urination (which games have characters drinking water?) and using a tampon to treat a wound sound more juvenile than clever.

P.S. - And the game does sounds like it has some homoerotic overtones.

I actually like the idea of a game being dependant on 2 players to pull stuff off. Over XBL with a friend on the other end is where this will shine. Anyone who has played SC:CT multi/co-op can attest to that.

The thing I want most from the upcoming generation of games is a focus on online co-op action. Hopefully this is just a precursor to a flood, but it will have to be good and, more importantly, sell well if it's going to entice other developers to go in this direction.

Full Spectrum Warrior was a blast to play with my buddy at Rutgers, but the game itself wasn't all that.

Halo 2 should have been the game to pave the path. How disappointing.

The game sounds like it has promis. Although there are a fair share of co-op and online co-op games out there, there aren't too many that do it all that well. GRAW does an excelent job on team based play online, but it is greatly lacking in depth. Other games like Doom 3 and PD0 were just to dull to bother to even play co-op online. SC:CT, as stated above, was well done, but the gameplay just felt a bit slow to play all the way through.

This game sounds like it has some promising ideas, but where haven't we heard stories like these before. I'd be interested to see some actual footage when this gets closer to release to see how it is really coming along.

I was reading the new GI and they have an article on this other game, Kane and Lynch. It basically is exactly the same as this in every way. Developers suck.

Was this playable at E3? I coulda sworn that someone was telling me it played like shit there.
