If you don't negotiate some sort of provision for getting paid overtime, whether it be a salary increase based on projected overtime, or just getting standard OT pay for any hours over 40, then you suck at bargaining your contract. If you bitch about working overtime that you are already getting paid for based on salary negotiations, then you suck at life.

Besides, the reason I responded the way I did was because elfneedsfood said he'd rather do five 8's than four 10's, not because of overtime issues.

Salaried people don't necessarily get vacation time, and hourly people don't necessarily not get it. I get it, 2 weeks a year, just like most salaried people.

As Chaoofnee told us sometimes this shit is not in your control. Plenty of industries (videogame, lols) dont offer OT or expect you to work extra. Maybe you're a regular Scott Boras - good for you. But your situation is unique. Companies have more power in the US today than they maybe ever did.

True, but what about sick days? I know I didnt get paid when I left sick or whatever from any of my hourly jobs.

This is not news.

Anyway my buddy gets every other friday off. That's a start. There's really so much shit you need to do to take care of your home that you need the time just to catch up on that.

I'm actually going on a bike ride with him now because we haven't had time over the weekend. He's got to be up at 5:30 am to make his commute.

I usually rock too hard on Saturdays only to spend all of Sunday sleeping.

I'm still not sure if that's a good thing.

I don't think I could handle working more than thirty hours a week anyway, so I need at least three days off a week.
Unfortunately that narrows my employment opportunities significantly, since almost every decent-paying job I've ever been offered required 40+ hours a week, and there's no way in hell I'm doing 10 hour shifts..

I always thought that the point of getting a job that pays $30+per hour was to be able to work fewer hours and still get by.
Apparently, I'm the only person that sees it that way.
