I caught a local advance screening of Miami Vice tonight, and Michael Mann did a good job with it. While the pacing is sometimes a tad slow, the action scenes kick ass- the violence is a bit grittier than the TV series, and the camera work practically takes you there. I'm glad they did not wimp out and go for a PG-13.
Jan Hammer's original theme song isn't in the movie, but the soundtrack is still very good overall.
Except for Ali, I've liked all of Michael Mann's movies, especially Collateral, so I'll definitely be catching this one.

The ads have a wicked remix of "In the Air Tonight" blaring, which makes me want to see it even more. NBC aired the pilot episode over the weekend, and if this flick is even half as good as that was, it'll be an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.
I saw a preview when I caught You, Me and Dupree and I was really impressed.
The tone and style isn't cheesy or over the top in a bad way, it's just intense. Kind of like how Lord of the Rings is intense, but not cheesy, where as the animated Lord of the Rings was. Am I making sense here?
Seasons 1 and 2 of the show are now bundled together for the price of one if anyone cares. I like that they are taking it serious too... although I won't lie, ifit were cheesy I'd still totally go see it.
I don't know that Don Johnson can easily be replaced, but I'm interested in this as Mann usually does good stuff. Anyone catch Manhunter from way back?
Manhunter was good. Not as good as the book it's based on, but still good, and certainly looked like a bonafide "made in Miami" movie.Quote:

I'm pumped to see this movie. Collateral I personally hated, but Heat is still one of my favorite movies ever, so I still have tons of faith in Michael Mann's abilities.
