I don't agree - I think the offence, Pierce and the DTs are still good enough to beat mediocre teams. Even last night, they were right there with a damn good team in the Bears until that backbreaker return in the 4th, and Eli was playing like junk.Quote:

Manning to Shockey/Burress plus Tiki/Jacobs is still better than most teams at the skill positions. Pettigout down sucks, but you just compensate by either running more two reciever sets and leaving Finn in the backfield to block, or using an ace formation more and have Shiancoe chip the weakside DE.

Steve Foley, Igor Olshansky just now came back just as Castillo goes out. Shaun Phillips has been out. And the impact of not having Merriman is far more than "not a big deal". He's the best LB in the league, and arguably the best defensive player in the league. Teams specifically game plan around him.Quote:

I think the problem is that New York lost a game they were a -1 favorite at home on national TV after talking a boatload of shit all during the week.
I have no delusions of grandeur about the Bears, which I think my previous posts would support. They are very easily a one-and-done team in the playoffs and I think the NFC as a whole is the JV compared to the AFC so it may all be moot anyway. But the Giants weren't that good in the first place, were similarly overhyped like the Bears, and it's a lot easier to for some people to rationalize over injuries than to realize that.
And Merriman may have gotten caught, but I very much doubt he is in the minority of NFL steroid users. And a steriod suspension and injuires are very much alike! In both cases, you're not going to be playing in the game!
