Nostalgic Cartoon Thread

I know a lot of people (coughdiffusionxcough) say that the old cartoon TV shows we remember are all crap but Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain and to an extent - Tiny Toons were all awesome cartoons and still are.

I just got the Pinky & the Brain DVD set and I've been re-watching it. The comedy is still funny and the stories are even better than I remember. In fact I'd say this show is BETTER now that I'm older.

As for the Animaniacs, well it comes out in Canada on August 8th but I know it's out in the States. So somebody pick it up and let us know how it is! The show was awesome before and I'm positive it still is.

The Tick was another amazing cartoon show and like the previous two, it's out on DVD sometime in August - not sure exactly when but I will be picking up it as well.

So many great classic cartoons on DVD in one month it's hard to get them all. Darkwing Duck and Talespin both come out in August as well. I know they have hefty fan bases so if anyone hear liked them you should hunt down the DVD sets soon.

Agreed that these shows actually hold up. Pinky and the Brain had some great writing. It fell apart after 2 seasons, but it was great for a while. Animaniacs had its moments of greatness, too, and The Tick is stil one of my favorite superhero parodies ever.

I gotta check out Darkwing Duck again. No idea if this holds up, but I did love it back in the day.

I gotta buy all three eventually

It doesn't. Or that was my thought after seeing the first few episodes again earlier this year.

QFT I dl'd the entire series, and well, I watched 5 and gave up.

Darkwing Duck was never good, even when on the air. I'd always get jazzed because the intro was cool, but then the episodes were endless variations on Darkwing being pompous and that little duck being a spoiled moron.

Animaniacs and Tiny Toons I'm going to be depressed if they don't hold up.

Your definition of that show is spot on. Most of the old disney shows suck now. The only god thing they have that still holds up is Gargoyles.

Pinky and Brain is still good. So is Animaniacs.( It's funny but when I was a kid I hated Yakko. Now that I'm older he seems to be far more funnier than Wacko or Dot.)

It's time for another good idea / bad idea..

This thread has already been done a million times and it always devolves into the same nostalgic shock shitfest.

Warner and Disney stopped making good cartoons in the 60's.

Animaniacs was 50%+ trash even it it's heyday. The Warners, Pinky & the Brain, and Slappy the Squirrel were pretty much the only good sketches, and even those barely treaded water sometimes. Stuff like Rita & Runt, The Hip Hippos, Goodfeathers, and Buttons & Mindy tested my patience even when I was a dumb little kid who liked pretty much every cartoon the TV threw at me. Watching them now is infinitely worse.

The show did have some moments of brilliance but it sure made you suffer for them.

And Ducktales & Talespin hold up quite well, thank you very much.
