There are far too many different interpretations of the Batman universe to declare one version as 'correct.'
I prefer judging the many versions of Batman seen in comics, TV and film in terms of 'good' and 'bad,' instead of 'right' and 'wrong.'
I favor Batman Begins (indeed a washed out adaptation of Year One) over Batman '89 because of the richer character development.. not because Batman '89 altered the storyline, or portrayed Batman as a product of the 'anti-hero' trend in 1980s comics.
And I've been a huge follower of Batman (specifically Batman 'prestige format' graphic novels) for just about 20 years now.
Ex-fucking-actly. This man is correct. Everyone else shut up, please.
I mean, who's to say that The Joker shouldn't have a moustache under his makeup like our pal Cesar Romero here?

That statement's been made some 40 times in this thread, yeah.
Also, Ceaser Romero is awesome.
Judging by this preview, Ledger is going to either be amazingly awesome or just almost but not quite amazing.
He seems to be nailing the homicidially nuts part but I dunno about the comically nuts part.
I think my favorite part of the trailer and what really clinches Ledger as the Joker for me is where Maggie Gyllenhaal punches him and he says "A little fight in ya? I like that." Something about how he delivers that line makes it perfect.
And what's with all the hate for Michael Caine? I was actually excited when he was originally cast as Alfred, he's a great actor and I think he plays the part wonderfully.
I liked Caine too. I liked just about everything in Begins.
I'm glad you guys dig Begins. Not my bag, though.
YOUR BAG IS FULL OF FAIL.
ALSO CANDY.
What's the candy made of?
