Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I really liked it, but I liked all the Harry Potter movies thus far.

This was more of the same really. I liked how dark it was, and it feels like it will only get darker for the last 2 movies.

That being said thoughts on the movie:

Rumours are speculating that Harry dies in the last book, but somehow I doubt it. There is so much foreshadowing in these movies that I figure the answers are already known if you know where to look but nothing points towards Harry dying, only that one will kill the other... which wouldn't be a very happy ending with Voldemort killing Harry.

The Dumbledore vs Voldemort fight was spectacular! The special effects were amazing and the use of only sound effects was a great touch.

Nothing yet with Hermione and Ron.

I haven't read any of the books, but I suspect Voldemort is wanting Harry to join his dark side, thus give him the edge and win the war.

Jesus that Neville kid grew like 14 feet. Too bad he didn't get revenge on that crazy chick.

Lots of new characters, not much explaination about the girl that changes her hair colour or her face into animals? What's her deal?

Everyone in the theatre was cheering when the Weasley brothers ransacked the exam room with fireworks and terrorized that ministry lady. I thought that scene was pretty fun as well althought it bore a striking resemblance to the first Lord of the Rings with Merry and Pippin using the dragon firework.

Also not much on the Asian girl who Harry likes. I realize they said it wasn't her fault she told (mind control or whatever) but I thought Harry and her were supposed to be more like a couple or something.



I guess that's it for now. Overall, it was great... I'd like to see it again but I'll probably wait until it's on DVD. Just another great feather in the cap of Harry Potter.

I approve of this movie quite a bit despite being a bit weak in the story department. The battle in the Department of Mysteries was fuckall badass though. But I can't help but shake that the movie seemed incomplete, but I think that just stems from the source material (I haven't read the books so I don't know).

What the fuck? Go read the book for chrissakes.

I get the feeling from ALL the movies that it'd be really hard to know what the hell is going on if you hadn't read the book. Same here. Book 5 is rough because Harry becomes such a teenage cunt, and there are just so many frustrations going on. So much could have been avoided if all the characters in it weren't being stupid all the time. But in the end the book is AWESOME, despite the slog through all the unpleasantness. And as usual, it's way better than the movie.

I have problems with the scoring of these films, and I have issues with how a lot of shots are handled as well. There are a lot of moments that seem like they need some type of music going on that are just silent. That wouldn't matter with some powerful acting but a lot of the big emotional moments in the whole series of films just fall flat.

I can't believe I'm talking about harry potter like this. SERIOUSLY though Mr. K, read the book. 6 seemed phoned in, at least 5 is still well written. Incoming star wars empire/return analogies expected.

Well, weak book or not, it basically set the stage for the final one more so than the last one did.

The movie left out a lot of things that are sort of key ESPECIALLY regarding Neville and his family.

Percy only in one scene?

Oh yeah, the scene with Harry and Neville was done perfectly, great foreshadowing in movie form.

Not enough Kreacher and not enough cursing at Grimmauld Place!

And Imelda Staunton pulled off Umbridge so well she deserves an award. Of awesomeness. I was not satisfied with the amount of screen time for Bellatrix. Bonham-Carter could have done a lot better with more to work with.

I can't wait for the DVD to see what they cut out. Overall, I liked it quite a bit.

My only real complaints is that so much was left out.

There were a bunch of scenes with Minerva and Umbridge I wanted to see, specially when Harry talks about wanting to be an Auora and other things like that.

At this point the movies have become such a different entity from the books, with each movie the move further and further away.

I've been saying it since movie 3, if you don't read the books you're going to be so lost on so many things. Like in this movie when Harry mentions padfoot to some one else, they never in any of the movies mention that Sirius's nickname at hogwarts with his friends was Padfoot, of course this is mentioned in book 3 since thats one of the names on the marauders map. It's the little shit like that that get people lose in the movies, least I think so.

Actually I coulda sworn they mentioned Padfoot at time, because I've never ready the books and it sounds REALLY familiar.

They did. Earlier in the train station Hagrid calls Syrius' dog-form Padfoot.

This is really disappointing to me. I like this character, and this scene gives him a lot of interesting depth that I hope the final book will explore further.

I won't hold my breath, though. Rowling has disappointed me before.

You kids must think it's really easy to condense a 900 page book into 2 1/2 hours. Unless you want an incoherent mess, shit's gonna get left out.

That said, I've never read any of the books, but I enjoy the movies. I agree with John, though- don't put shit in the movie that only makes sense if you've read the book. Granted, the majority of the people seeing this thing will probably have read it, but still.

I thought it was the best of the Harry Potter movies so far. The book was too sprawling for its own good, and while several scenes I'd like to have seen make the cut were left out, condensing it down did the story a world of good. I just wish it was about 15 minutes longer, fleshed out with those missing character bits.
