If you're seriously looking at The Rat, you should honestly pony up the extra cash and get the Robert Keeley mod http://www.robertkeeley.com/ I've got a couple of different Rats and the modded one is by far the sweetest. Their AD9 mod is really nice too.
edit - I was just looking at their site, and they don't sell pre-modded Rat's anymore, thats lame. They'll still mod one if you send it in though.
Awesome, this guy mods a lot of shit. I wonder how that DS-1 is. According to his site it's more money for them to mod the newer Rat models (because they are made so poorly).
big difference... sounds much louder/thicker. Not sure I love the overall sound both pedals produce but the Keeley one sounds better to me.
Could you name a track where you like that guitar sound you are going after? A little sonic reference may help to find what you are looking for.
Similar to the guitar tone on "Corduroy" by Pearl Jam
I'd recommend you get yourself a good Fender amp, or something along those lines, for that type of stuff. The only two that I've ever played that I've been thoroughly impressed with for dirty guitar is the Twin Amp (NOT the Twin Reverb, although those are nice too) and the Super Amp, but I'm sure some of the guitarists here that have played others can make some recommendations. I used to own a Twin Amp and I loved it, I really wish I still had it. Pearl Jam uses both Twin Amps and Super Amps for recording.
distortion pedals for jason.
I have a boss blues driver for sale (im thinking about doing the keely mod to it) and I'll probably build a clone of the original OD-1
Mykozo, I'll check out those Fender amps you mentioned... it makes sense actually, I used to own a fender combo amp and ended up selling it. This song I'm re-recording was one I wrote while I had that amp and I guess I'm trying to make the VOX sound like a Fender.
Jesus, those amps aren't cheap (Twin Amp)... God bless 12-15 month financing :)
If you are willing to wait, I can build anything you want. But you'll be behind Josh and Arjue.
