Is it possible to get a used reasonable bass amp in the $400 range? I don't know the first thing about bass amps, sorry for my ignorance, but you guys lead me to a guitar amp that I still love, so I have the faith.
Define reasonable. Just a head, or will you be needing a cabinet as well? How loud do you need to get?
Do you require mojo?
Are you going to gig with it?
Do you want it to hold its value?
Do you want new or used? current or old/vintage?
Does it need to look cool?
Is this just for practice or do you hope to gig with it?

Anthony. Get an power amp, and a Sansamp Bass Driver and call it a day. 99.9999999999% of the people out there won't be able to tell. Most anywhere you play is gonna want to DI your shit anyway. You can run them a line off your Sansamp and get "your sound" through the PA.
This is unless you need mojo... in which case I'll sell you an empty 1970's V series Ampeg headbox, and you can hide your poweramp and Sansamp in there.

I have a KILLER 1970's v2 cabinet you are welcome to. You'd have to figure out how to get it, and it needs speakers. You can (probably) have my partially working power amp too. Just get it the fuck out of my face.
All you'd have to buy is the bass driver, and they're all over craigslist. You will be able to get your 70's bass tone out of that fucker.
