I got sick of having to install and uninstall my games, so I decided to pick up a new HD from western digital with 320GB on board. Problem is I haven't been able to use the whole drive cause it only sets up on a single partition and that's about half of what's needed. I don't have a floppy or CD with the package to go through this properly, so I need advice on how to format it and make full use of my investment.
Er, are you sure it's the hard drive and not your system? Some drive controllers have upper limits as to what drive capacities they can handle.
It's definitely not a partition size limit, as my main PC has two 320 GB drives set up in RAID 0; to the system, it looks like a single 640 GB drive with a single partition taking up the entire space.
Exactly what does this mean? I thought most drives only have a limit depending on what type of software is used.Quote:

How old is your machine?
Far as I can tell, I peiced it together after christmas so I doubt the age has anything to do with it.
When you speak of drive controllers, is that some sort of filmware that needs to be upgreaded or can I adjust it from the startup menu?

Is it a SATA drive? I purchased a Western Digital 320 GB SATA drive as a secondary drive and I had to download some drivers from the Western Digital website for XP to recognize the drive and its 320GB limit. Don't fret about getting the drivers though--the whole experience was painless.
