NSA's warrantless wiretap program is history

I just have to say Clinton could have been impeached for purgury. I had to do the same thing Clinton did, when he testified in his desposition. Even though he did it via Video Tape. I was told that if I lied at any time even though its not in front of a judge I could be arrested for purgury.

(Side note: my desposition was due to a traffice accident. The old man lost and charges were dropped.)

I agree that Bush could be impeached, but its going to be harder to convict. Due to the Patriot Act being signed and then checked by the Supreme Court who at the time had more media proclaimed liberals, than this current Court. In that bill it covered the whole Warrentless Wiretaps, the whole basis was to intercept coversations of Al Queda and Terror Cells in this country(which was already covered in this thread and others). But now almost 6 years later(?), I personally find it unnecessary and what will stop the gov't from thinking g0zen, Diff, or anyone in TNL are terrorists? I mean its real easy to get a warrent, when you have a DIRECT FUCKING LINE TO THE FEDERAL DA! Its not real hard. I know I am simpliying it, but still its not hard at all.

There was no bill to cover warrantless wiretaps. The Prez just decided to do it. All their arguments in court have been that the Constitution gives Bush the "inherent authority" to do it as Commander in Chief and that the Authorization for the Use of Military Force against terrorists also gave Bush the power to violate FISA. It's an absurd argument. And, dare I say it, a very activist way to read the Constitution!

The thing is, even if there was a law passed to authorize it it would be struck down as unconstitutional. And the DoJ knows this. That's why they tried to pull out the "state secrets" BS in court ("this program is constitutional, but we cant tell you why because that would harm the nation's security") and didnt go to Congress for approval.

Thanks Diff. I googled it and read the wiki and other articles on this subject. Its kinda a gray area as far as legality goes, because noone knows when this was actually started. If it was started before 9/11 and before Bush signed his executive order. Then, they can impeach apparently.

I see this getting challenged in the courts. If there is any justice in the world it'll be deemed unconstitutional all the way up the chain.

Then again, this could die on the Senate floor. If ever the Dems and the 'Gang of 8' had a reason to break the Bushite Cult's balls it would here.

It will, I am fully confident of that.

Just because Specter says the bill he wrote in bed with Cheney and Rove is okay doesn't mean it is.

Just read about how Specter wants the vote to be done in a fashion that leaves no record of who votes for or against.

So we cannot hold our leaders accountable for voting on a bill that blatantly violates the Constitution by letting the executive branch spy on us without a warrant and with no required judicial oversight.

This is not America, and this is not democracy.
