This pretty much cements me not getting one at launch...el oh el

As if you guys knew how to run a business better than the guys at Sony. The 500k launch is intentional to increase demand for the PS3. It also reduces the amount of console-related losses, improving Sony's profitability in Q4.[/fanboy]

Those banking on everybody having Blu-Ray because everybody will own a PS3 have gotta be ticked.

I had a PS1 prior to this past gen and loved it. I was gonna get a PS2, then MS stuck a hook in my mouth with Xbox Live, even in its immature state at that time.

I'll get a PS2 eventually, but not til it hits $99. Like I said, the games aren't going anywhere.

Oh and L OfuckingL at 500,000 units for Japan and US. At least Sony recognizes where the real market is. Doesn't help that they've utterly pwned themselves for holiday '06 though.

Camping out at freaking midnight to spend $600 on a system with a lackluster launch line-up that may or may not work when you hit the power switch? No thanks.

Didn't think of that. This severely reduces PS3's chances of being a worldwide Blu-ray trojan horse.

I don't think most of the people that are buying them are going to have to worry about that. They're going straight to eBay.

400,000. Wow.

How much will PS3's be on ebay in December? My guess is $1000 easy.

IF, and this is a big IF, Bungie can get Halo 3 out by spring, PS3 is going to have a hard time getting a stranglehold on the market.

So by the end of the year the PS3 will have a userbase 400,000 strong while the ZBOZ is close to 4 or 5 million?

Its up to 3.2 million now I think.

Who knows what can happen because Sony gave them another Christmas for free? 360 could be up to 10 million by the time PS3s are readily available anywhere.
