Excitebike was probably the first with the boost meter/overheat mechanic. ExciteTruck is a sequel.

I've never played the Trackmania games, but if they rely on a boost/overheat mechanic and were released after Excitebike then you know where the developers got their inspiration.

The question should be Does anyone think its a serious video game system thats sole purpose is to play video games ... then no. Unless you add that it can cure cancer and launch Nasa spaceships into orbit and navigate it to Alpha Centari.

BTW you never mentioned price. If you added that bit then I would have said no. The price of the system does not equal or exceed the features/benefits of the system. But you didn't, price was never in your question.

The character models in NBA 07 is too damn shiny... I'm also spoiled by the fact that there's NO color commentary whatsoever. It just lacks the entertainment spark that the NBA 2K series has.

One day the PS3 will be a serious game machine, right now though, no it's not a 600 dollar blu-ray player that also happens to have a few games for, and one or two that might now suck.

There are other games that use that boost type overheating/boost with drawbacks/etc. Granted they all came after Excitebike, but whatever. Either way, no developer worth their weight in tomato cans wants to look to Excite Truck of all games for inspiration. There is like, almost nothing good about it. The reason that there's anything good about it is because there is something good about every game. Or at least you better come up with something in a gaming-career related interview.
