Really? I haven't read that like, I dunno, 100x in the last week.

No 1080p For PS3 Games
Hey, this is a banner day for PS3 fans, isn't it!
According to Sony, the official US PlayStation 3 site's caveat that the HDMI connection is required for 1080p signals in Blu-ray movies is fallout from uncertainty over the Image Constraint Token - a next-generation anti-piracy measure.
Sony has made an issue of pointing out that 1080p, which the Xbox 360 is incapable of, is the Holy Grail of "full HD". As it stands now, the only game that is running in 1080p, said Fargher, is Gran Turismo HD - a tech demo crafted by Polyphony to showcase what the system is capable of.
This is in line with our earlier report, where a development source told Kikizo that, "even with [final hardware] in mind, reaching good frame rates at 1080p with next-gen graphics is almost impossible. Instead many developers, ourselves included, are reworking so they run at 720p. "
In other words, movies will play at 1080p. Games won't, and maybe never will. Not that this is really new, but it's always distressing to have the obvious reiterated officially. Florian Eckhardt
There are more people in this thread just to crap on the system than there are people who are actually interested in it. :/
PV, Resistance and NBA 07 are both still targeting 1080p, and they are launch games.

I'll see how I feel about it when MGS4 hits.Quote:

While I still think MGS4 is the nicest looking game out there, it's as much riding on style as technological prowess.
Honestly, they've completely fucked themselves with supply issues, delaying launch and cheaping out on parts. With the way their manufacturing is going it'll be an impossibility for them to pass 360 worldwide now until 2008, if then, and that's a big head of steam to overcome.
They're obviously priced out of what average people are comfortable with; they could make a case for the price if they were head & shoulders above the competition, but between the stupid, pointless bandwidth bottleneck they put into it, disabling one of the SPEs to increase yields and the news that just came out about RSX being downgraded to 500 Mhz they'll have a tough time claiming a significant technological edge now.
They'll still do alright because it'll be the Sony name and the titles on the shelves that'll push it, and they still have an advantage over MS in that they can sell in 3 territories and 360 only really sells in North America. But the fact that Kutaragi's getting frustrated and saying stuff like he is means they know they've fucked up big time and might even have lost the States for this gen.
I was for sure going to get one until I realized that almost every game worth getting for the damn system is also coming out for thr 360. I'll get one at some point, but I wouldn't even consider getting one at launch now. I'me even advising others to hold off, and when ppl realize that some of the big titles (CoD3, Rainbow Six, Tony Hawk, Sonic, and many more) are going to be out on a system that is $200 cheaper and will also be available several weeks before the PS3 is even released, they pick up the 360 right on the spot most of the time. For launch, Sony can go fuck themselves.
Whether they deserve the interest or not is not the point. If there's no interest, fine. But the fact of the matter is that half of the posts in this thread are of no intention other than to bash the subject of the thread (not criticize, mind you, I know they are two very different things).
Eh, whatever. Nintendo took their lumps, Microsoft took theirs, now it's Sony's turn.
Sorry man. Whether it's the price or Sony's attitude, TNL's decided it hates PS3. These threads are like blood in the water. I almost started a Genji 2 thread, that would've been one for the ages
Then I saw the gameplay footage of the newest build & thought better of it.
If you want to feel better, go look at screens/footage of Warhawk's on-foot mode, then go play the Lost Planet demo again. I defy you to do it without laughing.
Andy and StriderKyo have broken up.
Hay Andy, there's always marwan.
SK, link that Warhawk on-foot footage.

its seriously LOL
I'm taking a wait and see stance on the matter. Sony is guilty of over-hyping thier products, but they still deliver capable hardware in the end.
Sure $500/$600 is pretty steep, but if they can deliver a game console that also plays Blu-Ray movies out of the box; I'm more than interested in it.
