lol Sony sucks.
"and the rest of the 360 lineup (and the Wii) this holiday season beats the shit out of the PS3's"
LAWL...as much as the PS3 is a running joke, the Wii is far worse. At least Sony is trying. Nintendo gave up.
so its funny because out of the thousands of PSone and PS2 games, 200 dont work its horrible and unbelieveable? They already said theyre working for the fixes on all of them, even HDD games like FFXI ect. Its better then launching backwards compadibility and being nowhere near 200 that acctually WORK.
I guess if I wanted to be optimistic, I could say they still have a better thing going than with the 360 in terms of backward compatibility, but that's just not mah styyyyle.
Also, you're confused. It's not 200 that work, it's 200 that don't work, which I guess only helps your case.
lol 360
I just played Motor Storm at Best Buy. It's pretty, I guess, but I would have been more impressed if it had a smoother framerate.
Bought Tony Hawk 8 at Best Buy and there were 2 guys sitting in chairs right next to the doors. So the camping has officially started around here. Wonder if they know about the other entrance on the other side of the mall. That'd be great if they waited for 5 days and didn't get one because the store choose to use the other entrance instead. They didn't look like they were prepared for a long stay though, just a chair and a light coat.
On the way out I over heard the employees saying there were 12 outside the West Paterson Best Buy.

PS3 RR7 vs XB360 RR6
I dunno who took the shot. Since there is no RR on Wii, this is the closest I could come up with: http://media.wii.ign.com/media/846/8...g_3901239.html
Heres another

What system can I play that game on? :p
edit: oh it works when I get the Properties...
I went to my best buy and there was a line outside, about 7 people, but only one of them was planning on reselling it. I was shocked. EVERY person keeping it was a jock and wanted to buy the sports games.
Inside they had a demo up with NBA Live '07. It looks nice, but not much better than the 360 version. PS3 = so not worth it.
Anyone know what the game tie-in rate was for the PS2 launch window?
Ummmm... Wow. It looks like they're having a competition to see who can look the most like a 3-year-old Xbox game.
Can I please, please, pleeeeeeease spend $1000+ on a "next gen" system? Pretty please? The pain of paying $50 per game when I could be spending $60 for games that look exactly the same is too much for me to bear. I must upgrade!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: This is the most underwhelming "hardware leap" ever. At least Nintendo knows this and isn't actually charging money for their new hardware.
You don't have a HDTV. Your opinion is invalid.
Josh, do you?
Because I'm coming over.
Cheebs = Jemery?
"At least Nintendo knows this and isn't actually charging money for their new hardware"
Nintendo doesn't have new hardware. It has a Gamecube with a shitty controller. The funny thing is that countless people are looking forward to spending more on this than they did on the Gamecube 5 years ago. Now THAT'S stupid.
edit: Actually, when you really think about it, that is genius.
Why don't you develop a sense of humor and stop taking things so seriously. Jesus....
Exactly. I guess it was hard to see the smiley at the end of my post, what with all that sand shooting up from J2d's crotch. Moreover, nothing I said was any more troll-like than about a hundred other posts in this thread.Quote:

You may not be excited about the Wii, but I've talked to a few people who have tried it out (Wii Sports, Madden, Rayman) and they had a blast playing it. Me, I enjoy playing games whether they be on the 360, PS3, or Wii, so I am excited about the Wii. I think its going to be a good system to just mess around with friends on, and I can't even begin to imagine the carnage playing a fun party game while being trashed.
It's joust. Just ignore him. It'll save you some time.
Only the 200,000 people who are truly e will be able to get a PS3.
Two were lined up at my Best Buy.
A Best Buy near me is getting 26 PS3's and has one spot left. Tents are up, they have like 300 feet of extension code, my friend said it was a sight to behold.
FOX5 news in NYC was at the Best Buy in Long Island City near my girls place. There was about 20 or so people already from the looks of the broadcast. Its insane.
I should go there and throw things at them.
Anyone in?
I'm surprised this hasn't been posted...

Ziff Davis Game Group, the leading integrated media company focused on the video game sector, today announced that it will discontinue publication of Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine after the January 2007 issue.
I did see that somewhere. I just didn't care.
Apparently a PS3 arrived at one of my friends' doorstep today. He ordered it from Play-Asia for $1075 (including shipping). He invited me over to play some Resistance, but I had to decline. I'll check it out this weekend, though.
Is it 30fps, I heard somewhere that they downgraded it?
I got a 360, can't see Resistance on that platform though.
A smiley wouldn't have changed shit, I'm tired of of having GoW in every fucking topic when it's not related. And while this thread has a lot trolling in it most of the people just come to gloat at facts and not spew bullshit.
Thanks for trying your best to keep up with the low standards btw.
Quick Impressions:
- System is practically tied with the Xbox1 in terms of overall weight.
- Extremely shiny (as you already know); seems a feather duster will be the safest thing to use for cleaning the system.
- Dashboard has adopted a similar interface like the PSP. Clean and easy to navigate. Has tons of various settings that I'll probably never use though (at least not yet). Honorable mentions: Installing an OS (allows you to partition the drive); enter terms (add to internal dictionary), various BlueRay and other multimedia settings galore (good news for video junkies)
- PlayStation Network still seems to be "unavailable"... or at least open solely to persons in Japan. I attempted to go through with registration, but the dropdown menu only offers Japan as an option for language type/region. NOTE: Once you enter this information along with your d.o.b., you're unable to change it later on. Would've went through with it , but I got stumped with the Japanese text for "Choose a security question?".
- Browsing is decent, but there aren't enough view options that allow you to customize it according to your screen size. The standard setting requires that you use the Sixaxis to scroll up/down/left/right to view the entire webpage, while the other option merely zooms all the way out and is too small to appreciate anything at all. Firefox should be on this baby. In short: PS3 internal browser sux!
I wish the network was "officially" up for U.S. residents -- currently, the only option available for registration is listed in Japanese. I'm looking forward to trying out what the PSN offers first hand. Currently there are free demos of Resistance: Fall of Man, NBA 06 and Ridge Racer 6. There's also some original games on there too which could serve as the PS3 equivalent of what we've been getting on XBLA. More to come.
The Sixaxis is SUPER light compared to any previous PlayStation controller on the market. People who've become accustomed to the rumble feature will be SOL here because there it doesn't exist in the wireless controllers. Note: The manual reports too that the PS3 can support up to 7 wireless connections. To quit a game, power down the control etc. works in similar fashion as the 360 by simply holding the PS icon down for 2 seconds.
Contents: Standard AV cable, PS3 unit, mini-USB cable (used for charging Sixaxis), a copy of The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (for first 500,000 units), 1 Sixaxis controller, power cable. Those of you with HDTVs are going to have to fork over some cash for an AV cable w/component or HDMI; both of which are sold seperately and should have been included in the box.
Games: Played Genji briefly; decent game, but I was never all that awestruck by the PS2 equivalent. NBA 06 is definitely rich in graphics and serves as a nice launch title for the system, but it's not taking the crown away from the NBA 2K series. Didn't get around to playing Resistance: Fall of Man, but based upon the impressions I've gathered, this will ultimately be the game that keeps my interest until the third-party publishers roll out their goods.
Backward compatibility: We already know over 200 titles don't work... saw little point in jumping into my collection to figure out what's playable (or at the very least, would actually offer me sound). Will look into this tomorrow or so.
Am I the only one who doesn't really care that rumble is gone? I played Motorstorm on the demo unit today and it wasn't until I read this thread that I remembered there was no rumble.
James
No, rumble is gay. Good riddance.
I think they just included it as a nice-sounding thing to mention in bullet-pointed lists and slideshows. I can't imagine a game where 7 people would share one screen without it being a giant clusterfuck.

You do realize that this makes no sense? A joke isn't acceptable but pure gloating is? Dude, whatever. You need to learn that everything posted here isn't going to be run past you for approval. Get over it.
Man, do I ever AWTP. That's some stupid shit right there.Quote:

7 controllers, its what bluetooth does. 4 controllers for 4 person play on 1 screen. Room for bluetooth keyboard, mouse, headsets, maybe even the new eyetoy goes through bluetooth, ect. ect. ect.
its 4 game controllers and 3 for accessories. Next there willbe "oh but then what if the 4th person wants a headset! boo-urns!" Well then person 4 can either go fuck themselves or plug in their game controller and go wireless with the headset.
I can't believe they didn't even put in a component cable for the $600 package. That's some shit right there.
Dude. The Wii is the ONLY new system I'm psyched about.
The jist of what I was saying:
All 3 "next gen" systems are overwhelmingly tiny steps better than the original Xbox in terms of what I'm seeing them throw up on the screen.
Sony and MS seem to think they have magical uber hardware and are charging 100 bazillion dollars for the same damn stuff our old Xbox can do. But with more lines of resolution. Wheeeee!!!!
Nintendo at least is not pricing it like it's magical uber hardware and throwing a new controller at us.
Yeah. When there's a fifth player, the first and fourth light will be lit. Six would be acknowledged by the second and fourth and the seventh by the first, second and fourth. I haven't fooled around with those extra ports just yet (damn thing has something for everything.)
I was thinking about stopping by to put my name in the drawing tomorrow night after work (9:30 pm), since its right on my way home. I'm certainly not going to buy the system now, but hey, if I can maybe get one for free, I'd give that a shot, no matter what the odds. But if there is a ridiculous amount of people there already, I'm having second thoughts. Anyone going to check it out tomorrow night?
How are they doing the drawing for the free systems? Do you just drop your name in a box, or submit it through someone there? The less time spent there, the better.
And those of you looking to heckle, we should print out flyers that just have that one posting that Icarusfall made (about getting shanked, all for resistance) and pass it to everyone in line. Just tell them "important information about the playstation 3 launch."
Im kind of confused with the Union Square situation. CC said that each store is getting 100 systems only. So the first 100 people are getting it. But they also said that 100 PS3s are going to be given away at the Union Square location and 5 at the other CCs. Now, if CC is getting 100 and they're giving away 100, that means their getting 200 and not 100.
Then again, I could just be stupid or its their wording.
Thats the impression I got, is that they are selling 100, then giving away 100 additional systems to people in a drawing. Is anyone close, that they can find out whats happening, by stopping by? If not, I'll stop by on the way home tonight (7pm) and find out what the deal is.
If we can put our names in anytime, anyone down for submitting our names, going to grab a drink or two, then heading back there at midnight to see if we won? Depending on the drawing system, I think this is what I will do, since I dont want to hang out around that crowd. I know Toys R Us in Times Square did this last year with the 360, giving out systems based on a drawing.
PS3 reviews I've found so far:
Call of Duty 3 (8.2 / 10) (GameSpot)
Genji: Days of the Blade (6.4 / 10) (GameSpot)
Genji: Days of the Blade (6.0 / 10) (IGN)
Genji: Days of the Blade (6 / 10) (GameInformer)
NBA 07 (7 / 10) (GameInformer)
Resistance: Fall of Man (9.5 / 10) (GameInformer)
Resistance: Fall of Man (9.1 / 10) (IGN)
Ridge Racer 7 (8.2 / 10) (IGN)
Tony Hawk's Project 8 (7.3 / 10) (GameSpot)
lol our store just found out we are getting 0 PS3's until after Thanksgiving. The 2 Walmarts in our area are getting 2 each. Looks like I aint gonna be camping out.
I'm going to camping out later today with some friends. Should be interesting couple days.
I just came from the Best Buy in Westbury, and I couldn't fucking believe it. There is a line of tents leading from the door, down the front of the building, and around the corner. At least 20-25 tents so far. And according to some of the guys I spoke to on the line, more are coming. I'll post a few pics later.
After Best Buy I walked next door to Walmart, as the BB guys told me a line was formed there as well. Smaller line and no tents, as the front of the store had an alcove, so it was just a bunch of guys and girls sitting on chairs. Interesting scene there- the manager was out talking with the people on the line, telling them Walmart might not be getting ANY PS3s, and if that turned out to be the case, rain tickets would be issued. The homies on the line were pretty fucking pissed and telling the manager "Yo, man, dere best be some muthafuckin' PS3s up in this shit!"
No, because none come out until 2007. :p
They're both pretty shitty.
At least the PS3 lineup has 360 ports that have proven to be good already.
I stopped by the BB in my area today cause I wanted to see if they were selling the react component cables for the Wii yet. (which they aren't but you can get PS3 component cables now) There was about 20 - 25 people waiting outside the store, on lawn chairs and shit in huge jackets, no Tents though.
Who will be at the Union Square Circuit City tomorrow? I'll be there...naked.
Oh lawl. I can't wait to roll out of bed in 2 days and get my system.
John, which Best Buy was that? West Paterson?
My Wii and PS3 preorders are still good. I just called and confirmed.
Called and confirmed my PS3 as well.
Fixed. http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/699/iconv9kz.gif
I called up the two places I have pre-orders for PS3s at and they both have no idea if they're coming in or not. Such is life.
In other news, 2ch doing what they do best -- troll the shit out of people. Specifically, people reselling PS3s.
lolzQuote:
Third is about the PS3’s being sold for 10,000,000,000 yen (84 million USD) on Yahoo auction Japan. The reason is that a group of folks on 2ch decided to gang up on those trying to make a profit from the sale of PS3’s. The 2ch folks would go into Yahoo and set up new IDs and then start bidding on items – crazy amounts like 10,000,000,000 yen. This prevents other legitimate buyers from buying (who would) and also prevents the seller from selling as s/he knows that nobody would buy the PS3 for that price. The seller then withdraws the listing but at that point, the 2ch person who put in the bid can give the seller a bad score for withdrawing the bid - the classic "I placed a bid but the seller withdrew".
I'm looking forward to seeing some idiot buy a PS3 during launch and smashing it, with a hammer in front of 50-100 people waiting to buy the console, on YouTube.
Hopefully I can get one this way :tu:

I checked out the Union Square situation on my way home from work tonight, and I would say there is about 120 ppl there right now. All of them in folding chairs and bundled up in sheets, looking like homeless slobs. The gate blocking the start of the line, had ads and news articles about the ps3, stating at the top of it "Its 600 bucks, yet the playstation 3 wont play many old games." Some people were talking about how they were going to "buy it for 600 bucks and sell it for 3000."
By far the highlight of the 5 minutes I spent there was this quote:
Hipster guy walking by: "Wow...these people must really really want this thing. Its so sad."
For those of you wondering, I checked out the situation with the free ps3 drawing, and it turns out you cant submit your name til 10pm tomorrow morning. I might stop by on my way to work, and do it, since I dont have to work til 5ish tomorrow evening. The small print on the ad for it says, "Only 2,000 entries are allowed" or something to that extent, so if you get a chance, I would say a 5% chance of winning one would be some decent odds. The drawing starts at 10pm tomorrow night. It didnt specify if it was either the 20GB or the 60GB system. I'm willing to bet its the former though.
Some not great pictures attached.
As for tomorrow night, I'm getting out of work around 9:30-10ish, so I'll prob stop by and see what the status of the system drawing is. Like I said, I'd take one for free (and probably keep it) but I dont really even give a shit. If anyone wants to meet up for a beer, PM me.
What a bunch of crackheads. Put my name into the drawing!
Got to try the PS3 today at Target. Damn its even uglier in person! Motorstorm was the game I played and it was eh. Nothing I couldnt have played at 360 launch. The controller is disappointing also. I thought the trigger R2/L2 buttons would be nice and they are just ok. They curve the wrong way so its like your fingers seem to want to slip off of them. Couldnt they have at least demo'd Resistance, a game thats actually out at launch?
I guess its exactly what I was expecting, just a meh thats kinda neat.
If you have a TV that does 480p and 1080i (but not 720p)...guess what? 480p PS3 for you! 720p games do not upconvert to 1080i. Or so says a news bit on Joystiq.com
I checked out my shopko at the east mall in green bay and considering how small the electronics area was, I didn't expect to see a wall set up for games yet. I may drop by there friday and see if anything turns up, cause if they get some in and nobody's buying... LOL!
that thing will fill up insanely early. If they're going to cap the drawings, I may as well not even bother going.
What the fuck its the deal with this thing? Everyone calls asking if we are going to have them and are dumbfounded when I say they are fucked. Like its a big fucking shock. And why does every slack jaw seem to think PS3 is going to OWN 360 graphically? Its like they can't understand that 360 and PS3 are going to be the same in terms of graphics. Well mostly anyways, some of the games for both units appear to be better on 360 based on early reviews. We did manage to get a few systems in today. Biggest console box EVER. :D It has handle! Awesome!
I don't get it either. I think they are just stupid and uninformed.
Every time I've gone into the EB where my reserve is, someone has asked about the PS3 and have given that exact response.... what'd they expect? They were awake during the 360 mess, right?
I wonder what offers we'll get on the way out of the store. When we left with our 360, someone offered us $600 on the spot.

November 15, 2006 - As final PlayStation 3 units continue to trickle into more and more hands, additional details about how the system works and what it can and can't do are hitting the web. The latest (rather major) tidbit is how the console treats the upscaling and downscaling of 720p titles on televisions that don't support that resolution -- specifically those that are only 1080i capable.
As it turns out, gamers who own older HD sets that feature only 480i, 480p, and 1080i resolution input capabilities will have to settle for the display quality being downsized as the game boots in its 480p mode rather than upscaling the image from its more desirable 720p mode to the TV's 1080i. We tested this development on older HDTV sets with games designed for 720p but not 1080i -- Resistance: Fall of Man, NHL 2K7, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, and Need for Speed Carbon. Sure enough, the system downshifted all four titles to 480p rather than moving up to 1080i.
The PlayStation 3's competitor, Microsoft's Xbox 360, does upscale 720p games to 1080i if the HD set supports the latter resolution but not the in-between and commonly-employed 720p resolution.
IGN contacted Sony representatives for comment regarding this feature, but SCEA spokespeople have yet to return our phone calls as we went to press (we'll update this story when they do). It is not known yet if this is purely a software issue or a deeper technical problem and whether or not this lack of upscaling might be resolved on launch PS3 systems in future updates of the hardware via downloadable firmware patches.
For the laymen, 720p is a high-definition format that offers a complete 720-pixel line frame on the screen at 24 to 60 frames per second (progressive), while the 1080i signal is presented as two 540-pixel fields that when displayed back to back look like a complete image (interlaced). The difference being that a 720p picture offers quicker refresh rates while 1080i offers more detail with stationary imagery. The maximum resolution of the PlayStation 3 (and currently the maximum for available HDTV sets) is 1080p. It is thus capable of displaying all major standard-definition and high-definition video outputs wherever HD standards are employed (in PS3 games and Blu-Ray Movies, most commonly), but as has already been reported about PS1/PS2 games and DVD playback, it does not currently upscale any lower resolution images to higher image standards.
There's this fat, annoying, rich kid at our store we nicknamed Hippo Brown. He comes in everyday bragging about his preorder, like I, his friends, or any customer within earshot gives a rass. I hope to god he doesn't get his system.
Oh yeah. Big rainstorm in Toronto the next two days. I hope people lining up at Walmart or wherever get soaked.
Well, they'll still look a ton better, considering the graphical feature set, polygon throughput and memory bandwidth isn't crippled like the Hyperscan, err I mean Wii, but yep, same resolution. That's sad. I wonder if they'll fix it in an update like the 360 just did to allow for 1080p. MS knows software a whole lot better, so I'm not 100% sure, but whatever.
Contrasting to the 2ch story, Americans harass people waiting for a PS3 a typically American manner: with zero subtley and much more violence. Newest hazard facing linegoers: getting shot. (by BBs)
This keeps getting better by the minute.Quote:
Dozens of people camped out in front the Best Buy store on Nicholasville Road. They're hoping to get their hands on a Sony PlayStation 3 console. But the wait turned serious when someone drove by and fired shots at people waiting in line.
Four people were hit by the BB pellets, including 27 NEWSFIRST reporter Elizabeth Dorsett.
Aren't they already big enough losers to be out there waiting for a system they don't need, which they might not even get?
"The PlayStation 3's competitor, Microsoft's Xbox 360, does upscale 720p games to 1080i if the HD set supports the latter resolution but not the in-between and commonly-employed 720p resolution."
What the hell does this mean? Does this make any sense or am I just reading it wrong?
