Personally, I like the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD cases in terms of size. They are slimmer so you can fit more on your shelf. I've noticed a lot of freed up space lately by switching over to HD-DVD.

This was posted in the HD-DVD thread:

Basically, they found a way to make a 3 layer disc so that you can do 2 layers of HD-DVD and one layer of regular DVD, or vice versa... meaning you only need to make one disc now (sort of), which gives Blu-Ray yet ANOTHER disadvantage.
I was never a big fan of jewel cases. They are just to easy to break. DVD cases are pretty resilient and look good on the shelf.
The obvious compromise is DS-style cases. Best of both worlds, imo.

Well, more and more HD-DVDs these days are combo discs already, they just make it double sided (one side HD, the other regular)... this will make for discs that will still be one sided (aka, have the pretty label consumers love so much) and hopefully be cheaper as well so they can sell that instead of 2 versions.
Because HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are closly related, and as we all know, the PS3 uses Blu-Ray. I posted it because Sony will need to come up with something similar to be able to compete with this. This can really hurt Blu-Ray. Unfortunately, I don't see Sony coming up with anything since Toshiba is the company that makes DVD and HD-DVD, so that's why that's the format with the dual discs.
I hate jewel cases and agree with ElCapitan why. They break and crack too easily and get all scuffed up and whatnot. DVD cases are nice and durable and just look nicer. As I said, I actually like the new HD disc cases as well (in terms of design, maybe not color).
Never thought of that... that's a good idea, really.
Why didn't these companies settle upon a unified standard like they did with DVD?
As I said, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray cases are like keepcases, but slimmer... so they take up much less space. I love them.
HD-DVD cases are all the same, and Blu-Ray cases are all the same. They are both very similar to each other, but if they couldn't settle on a common format, they certainly aren't going to want their cases to look exactly alike to confuse consumers.
I'm glad Andy tries to moderate one thread and fails.
My comments in this thread aren't moderating decisions. I'm not going to card anyone for bashing the system or posting negative stories about it. But just as someone who is actually interested in the PS3, I would rather they leave superfluous bs out of the thread.
And I've done plenty outside of this thread, thank you. :p
You're quite welcome. :p
You don't count becuase you don't actually understand anything that's going on with the PS3.
So what's the ps3 launch date?
Word on the street is the Japanese don't like VF5. UH OH.
Sonic went from greatness to shit.
The new game looks good. I posted the box as it's what PS3 games are supposedly going to look like. Go shit on Sonic in an official thread or something.
I hope Warhawk doesn't end up looking like that =(
Those are the ugliest fucking cases ever. If they atleast got rid of the black bar on the side of the cover it would be an amazing improvement.
You have to wonder though, did the brilliant marketing guys behind the old banana controller come up with this idea as well?
It's just like the BR-DVD cases! Which are squat and horrendous! GO SONY GO! I can't wait to find out the next discovery which is completely in left field and doesn't go with the flow.
The blue stuff fits the Sonic cover (barely), but that PS3 garbage on the side ruins it.
When i saw this thread bumped I though for a second that Sony had announced they were changing their launch price from 600 bucks to 250.
No such luck.
Very professional, but I'm gonna have to say fake. Notice how the title on the spine runs upward instead of down... I doubt very much that PS3 is going to go against the orientation pretty much every media in recent history has been using. I'm also skeptical that they'd use the PS family logo over a PS3-specific one on the spine, as well.
Actually, another cover was shown with this same cover orientation - so it's probably real.
Question: does the Guitar Hero controller use a USB port or a standard PS2 controller port to connect to a PS2? If it has a USB port, then there's no problem with the controller working with a PS3. If it uses the standard PS2 controller port, I'm confident that they'll release a PS2->USB adapter, but I'm curious if the adapter will work with other controllers.
Interesting. I've read that future Guitar Hero controllers will come with a USB port and still be compatible with the original Guitar Hero game, but I haven't read any official confirmation on the rumor.
So it looks like there will be a PS2->USB adapter. I wonder if it will only work with the Guitar Hero controller or all PS2 controllers. It'd be nice if I can use my modded SFAC stick on the PS3 when I buy it in four years.
Surely they will get some spiffy boxes in japan atleast =/
Is blue really much more offensive than neon green?
loller
O rly? Here's some talk from Shou on the subject from this thread.
The case reminds me of the original large sized Playstation cases that were made out of cardboard. God those were terrible.
Sony haters can feast on this...

Sony's FCC Filing: PS3 WiFi/Bluetooth Do Not Transmit Simultaneously
http://www.kotaku.com/assets/resourc...aperslarge.jpg
it doesnt sound right that you cant use the wireless controller and use WiFi at the same time.....but hey, it's all about adding more fuel to the fire right?
That definitely won't happen, unless Sony has retarded monkeys working for them. Which is a possibility, but doubtful.
Where do people find shit like that?
If you read that article further it says that it switches between the two very fast. Which makes me wonder if there will be any noticeable lag on the net or for the controller inputs.
lol there's just no way this shit can be true.
People were pissed off about charging for horse armor in Oblivion. How could they possibly believe that buying a "blank" game and having to buy ALL the cars and tracks independently is anywhere close to a good idea?
And the version that comes with TWO tracks and 30 cars is the only option for those without the capability to bring the PS3 online. Worst idea ever.
Are we at the point yet where we can start calling them $ony?
I can't believe that. It's just too rediculous to even consider.
LAWL!!
You know, I think I'm going to call this bullshit until I hear otherwise directly from Sony, and even then the full retail product will have to be in stores before I admit it's real. This is too stupid to waste brainpower believing in.

i dont know why everyones bitching so much. Its not GT5, its the prologue. They are selling you the option of playing GT with high def resolution and downloading and playing what you want. The discs wont be more then $10-$20 probably. Buy the cars you like, play the tracks you want. God knows a lot of people dont get every damn car GTs offer, nor get to every track or go all the way in career mode. Its not GT5, its the prologue to let you play something before hand. Its not GT5 i repeat. GT5 most likely wont be doign this COMPLETELY.
if you dont like it just pop in GT4 and have ps3 upconvert, problem solved.

from the sound of things. $100ish price cut for ps3 models, and low end model to have HDMI.
Wow looks like someone at sony realised some damage control was needed in order to rein in the disaster in the making that was the PS3. Still not ready to buy it, but at least they are making the effort somewhat.
If the high-end model were priced at $499, they'd have a shot to win me over. Still, the news of GT probably being a "blank" game is disturbing. I hope it gets debunked.
I debunked your mom last night.

Sony Cuts Price of PlayStation 3 to $410
By HANS GREIMEL Associated Press Writer

TOKYO — Sony Corp. said Friday it will lower the price of its much-anticipated PlayStation 3 video game console, heating up the competition in the next-generation gaming war against rivals Microsoft and Nintendo.
The announcement comes just days after Microsoft Corp. announced that it would roll out an external high definition DVD player for its Xbox 360 in an effort to match the PlayStation 3, which is due to be released later this year with its own Blu-ray DVD technology.

Sony will cut the price of its basic PlayStation 3 model in Japan to 47,600 yen ($410), from an originally planned 59,800 yen ($515). That puts the PlayStation 3 in the same range as the combined basic Xbox 360 and HD DVD player in Japan, where the duo will sell for 49,600 yen ($427).
The price cut affects the basic PlayStation 3 model, which comes with a 20 gigabyte hard drive. Another upscale version of the PlayStation 3 will have a 60 gigabyte hard drive, but Sony is leaving its pricing to retailers.
The announcement could give the PlayStation 3 a badly needed boost in Sony's home market.
The launch of the product, initially planned for earlier this year, has been postponed twice. Earlier this month, Sony said it would delay the European release by four months until March.
The PlayStation 3 will hit stores in Japan on Nov. 11 and in the United States on Nov. 17, but Sony now expects to ship only 2 million units by year's end instead of 4 million as originally planned.
except this only affects Japan, not the US. Or did I read the other thread wrong?
Well one could make the assumption that they would do the same in the US as well. I'm sure they know Japan consumers are not the only ones LOLing at the price.
Sony is confusing me. They keep the Japanese launch at 100,000 units, but reduce the price of their basic system to compete with the 360's system + HDDVD drive combo. So what is it? Do they think of MS as a threat or not?
DAY ONE!!1 I'm camping out for a week so I can play hungry hungry hippos in 4D!
don't break my heart and tell me AFRIKA isn't a US launch title.
Well I was counting on MGS4. And with a lower price, I have a better chance at getting the system now. At least I wont have to wait 3 years.
