How dare you. Those ads were bad-ass back in '95.

And yes, the marks at the end are the release date, 11/17.

I can't wait for the typical launch "issues" with the PS3- overheating, blank discs, or whatever. Watch 'em get blown WAY out of proportion (just like the 360), and you have the groundwork for more negative press for Sony.
Expect a PS3 relaunch this summer...
Yeah, that negative launch press will come and go and it won't really affect anything.
Here's the kotaku dude reviewing the ps3 controller.
It sounds like people are doing dishes in the background.

It's about PS1/2 - USB convertors for PS3. That answers that question.
First PS3 review.
It looks like the Giant Crabs have lost this battle.
Oh hell yes.
A launch game sucking? I'M ACTING ASTONISHED!
At least we still have real time weapon switching!
Those Radio Shack adapters are laggy as all hell.

Sorry if old, Bushnell on PS3:

Q: What about Sony’s PlayStation 3 Strategy?
A: I think Sony shot themselves in the foot… there is a high probability [they] will fail. The price point is probably unsustainable. For years and years Sony has been a very difficult company to deal with from a developer standpoint. They could get away with their arrogance and capriciousness because they had an installed base. They have also historically had horrible software tools. You compare that to the Xbox 360 with really great authoring tools [and] additional revenue streams from Xbox live… a first party developer would be an idiot to develop for Sony first and not the 360. People don’t buy hardware, they buy software.
Q: But what about Sony’s success with the PlayStation and PS2? They sold more than 100 million of each system.
A: It wasn’t anything brilliant that they did. With the PS and PS2 it was timing. They had the right pricing at the right time [and were] almost the accidental winner. It would not surprise me if a year from now they’ll be struggling to sell 1 million units. [Factoring in the PS3’s price], I think in the U.S. the number of early adopters you have is actually around 300,000.
I agree with most of what he said, except for the numbers at the end. lol @ that.
Just read this on the Magic Box:
"- Dav Karraker, senior director of Sony Corp., said that there is a good chance players can download and play Sega Saturn games on PlayStation 3 in future."
!!!!!!!
Ooh, very nice! But if Sega's dong it for Sony I have a hard time believing they won't also do it for Wii.
James
I can download and play Sega Saturn games right now.
Ummmm...yeah. Guitar hero needs the d-pad to have the controller recognized as a guitar (3 of the d-pad directions are permanently "pressed down", and that indicates to the PS2 that a guitar is plugged in), and the guitar needs analoge for the whammy bar. So, if the adapter can't do d-pad and analog at the same time, how does IGN expect it to work?Quote:

It seems quite possible that the PS3 shipments will be cut by as much as half.
If it turns out to be true, Sony will have hundreds of thousands of fans quickly screaming for blood. It will also raise the price of the PS3 on eBay high enough that it can possibly sell more than some people make in a year.
Yeah. Bear in mind that mentions the 2006 shipment, not the initial shipment. But who knows. LOL if true.
These shipment cuts seem to all point to one of two things...
1) The production batches for the Cell CPU are producing low yields.
2) Sony still cant get a decent production level of the blu-ray laser mech.
Either way, the hardware cost of the PS3 must be insane.
I am really loving this.
So that means 200k for NA launch? LLLAAWWWLL
Since Sony delayed their stand alone blu-ray player for the...third time? my money is on the blu ray parts being the reason. I'd say they're taking as many as they can to use in PS3's instead.
You know that point at which laughing at someone who deserves it slowly starts to turn to concern? A few more years of this and I'm going to have to start ignoring it for Sony.
James
A friend of mine is actually planning to camp out in front of a local game store to try to get a PS3, even though it's doubtful that they will even receive any systems at all since the Japanese shipment is so small.
I lol'd.
yeah it's unclear if that 200k is for launch or till the end of 2006. If it's for launch LOL if its for all of 2006 LOLx1000
Seriously 3rd party developers have to be fucking fuming right now. I know I would be, PS3 games are expensive as fuck to develop, and with the hopes of selling at most what, 100k, since none of those games will sell 1:1 with the system, they're going to be taking some major baths on their PS3 releases this year.
too bad this is still all rumor, from a site im sure 90% of us have never heard about.
Gamespot is reporting that EB is now listing FEAR and Oblivion coming out in early 2007 now. Thats gotta hurt even more not launching with Oblivion. LOL at SONY some more.
FEAR and Oblivion have been set for 2007 according to EB Games for a long time. EB Games almost never has their listings correct, so I'd say that report is pretty much null.
lawl Two of the three best launch games are no longer.
LAWL
EA decided to kill off NBA Live 07 and focus on a new themed basketball game.
did you guys make this cause it looks like your work

I got to play Motorstorm at Target today. Uhmm... The graphics were pretty nice, but the framerate was so slow that the game felt as if it were in slow motion. I dunno, not impressed. The only thing that stood out was how good the motion sensor control felt. The dash was pretty neat, just like psp's.
An older guy came up to me and asked me if I thought it was worth $600. I told him not right now, no. Wait til more games are out. I probably just cheated a kid out of a $600 xmas present lol.
perkyskirt killed Santa.
Stores have PS3 demo units now?
Off topic a bit, but I want to know where did you get this info from? Because I was just at a game store last night and they had signs advertising the LE Blue Dragon 360 coming out on Dec. 7 along with the game. And since most of the stores in Japan do not offer pre-orders on systems I'd like to know how that can be claimed?
There was a "news" report on it a few weeks ago. I forgot what site it was from. Think it said the super chan edition with the figures (limited to 10,000) went really quick.
And since you're saying "most stores" don't do preorders, that doesn't mean all of them. Nintendo just started their Wii pre-orders a day or two ago over there.
You all have probably figured this out but let me confirm for you, if you're puchasing a PS3 you better damn well be HD ready, becasue the PS3 on a normal tv with normal hookups is goddamn atrocious, I mean, it's bland and near fuzzy, and I have trouble noticing small differences like that, so I know it was BAD.
People still use SD televisions?
Well, I figure that you noobs would have gotten out of the dark ages by now.
Weren't there just a bunch of Wii preorders over there, or did I miss something?
Games are a HUGE part of my life. I work in the industry. I spend the vast majority of my throw-away money on games and game-related stuff. Any time I have a day off, my first instinct is to spend it doing nothing but playing games. And you know what I think about the PS3?
Nothing, really. I just don't care at all. I'll lol if it falls flat on its face because of how arrogant Sony has become, but beyond that, I'm very ambivalent. This is the first console where I can remember feeling that way which tells me Sony's really messed up this time. I'll buy one eventually for the few exclusives (FFXIII if nothing else), but that's not saying much, as I buy every new system eventually.
So if I don't care, who are all these people that do?
People who aren't you, basically.Quote:

Seriously though, Sony has built up a ton of customer loyalty over the years. The Playstation brand has been king for so long that most people just accept that it's the way to go. New Sony PS3?, they think. More of what I love only prettier? Sign me up!
You'll note that critical thought doesn't enter the process at any point.
-edit- Forgot to mention- the first PS3 games hit stores this week. Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Tony Hawk's Project 8 are now available to buy. Wheee...?
James
The Best Buy by my job has their demo system in. Well, a non-working mock-up, anyway. If you look in the vents the system appears to be empty and the plugs and on/off switch on the back are just stickers.
That aside, the system isn't THAT big. It's certainly no Xbox. Not as ugly in person either, through I still think it could have been designed better.
It's bigger than the original. Some added pounds in there too.
ITS TOO BIG FOR LITTLE JAP HOUSES!
It's bigger than they are.

"She say PS3 too bookoo."
lol @ that pic. wtf.
This one is better.

That's a great dad right there.
I like how everyone's flipping out except the one lady who's just chillin there eating her popcorn.
And the dude trying to protect the little kid has his hand on the wrong side. Looks like she's being distracted by something in centerfield though.
I'm at work and I just lolled pretty hard from that last pic. Stileproject, man, I forgot all about that site. Haven't been there since, like, 2001 prolly. Not really a "safe for work" site, so I can't check it now.
yeah so apparently the ps3 will become the xmbc people wanted the 360 to be...
there's seemingly no restrictions on what can be done with linux, and native ppc compiled code should work just fine, so hello there network-capable, ffmpeg runnin' media player/emulator*/bittorrent machine
(* assuming the sixaxis will work on linux, but if not a dualshock2 with usb adapter should do the job just as good)
So they will let you run your own code on the ps3?
Um, yeah. Expect pirated games and ripped .isos in about a week.
The only major restrictions in place is that the PS3 OS and the PS3 partition (save games, game content, downloaded PS Store stuff etc.) cannot be touched, other than that pretty much anything goes according to the YDL mailing list...
the NDAs expire next friday so expect a whole slew of new info about it
Am I missing something with that pic? Is that old dude's face re-arranged?

ign.com recieved their retail versions of the ps3.
Quote:
Ken: I'm dying to know: Do the Guitar Hero controllers work with the USB adapters on the PS3?
IGN: When you pop in a PS2 or PSone game, you're prompted to tap the PlayStation button on the controller. For what reason, we're not sure, but as Guitar Hero's SG controller doesn't have this button, you can't actually activate it. You also can't quick-swap from one controller to another as the second part of the problem lies in that you need to turn on analog control, but again, the SG guitar doesn't have an on/off button for analog play. This SUCKS.
Resistance (the only exclusive launch game worth a damn on PS3) got a 9.1 from IGN. Pretty, pretty goo
The problem is that it just got hit by a bus with a red cog-like emblem on it
I would think having a media center application that wasn't restricted to gay wmvs only AND could run shit like MAME, Snes9x, etc. would be far more appealing than jumping to the conclusion that people will have some sort of crazy iso loader ready to go before it even has time to saturate the market
But I guess you dudes have to find something wrong with it huh
vvv that's assuming this crackpot scheme of loading ps3 isos via linux would work at all, considering they're still running the alt. OS in a virtualization layer... I'd say that before any hardcore piracy happens on the system two things will have to happen:
1) bluray burners and media will get to the point where they're affordable by citizen joe, and
2) someone comes up with some sort of hardware mod chip & hacked up XMB OS to get around retail disc recognition cause I somehow doubt it'll be as easy as flashing the drives firmware
The sooner I Can pirate on a system the sooner I'm tempted to buy it, so I can pirate shitty games and decide I hate them, and spend any money on games I actually desire. If I pirate a game, I wasn't going to buy it anyways.
It's only more incentive to buy the system eventually.
I never said that made the system worse, it actually would make the system more appealing to me if I didn't already have my Xbox that can run all sorts of software. It's definitely one of the steps in the right direction Sony has taken, but in conjunction with the 50 steps backwards, it doesn't make me want to run out and buy the system.
That's the thing though, I have no doubt that all of the brilliant minds in the hacking/piracy world will be able to figure out a way to load PS3 iso's from a specially formatted drive put into the system. I very well could be wrong, and it make take years, but I doubt it.
lol at Compass starting a piracy argument on a board full of pirates.
Or flash the system bios, which then pirates will make the PS3 boot anything they want it too.
As far as bluray blanks and drives being needed, I really doubt there will be any games for a while that wouldn't fit on a DVD-R or at least a DVD-DL, as movies can be downsampled, or outright ripped.
Dont forget, the Dreamcast has discs that were 1GB, all the pirates did was shrink the FMV, the music, or outright cut stuff that wasnt needed for gameplay.
Nah, I just can't let that reasoning slide. If you want to steal, fine, steal, but stop trying to justify it.
I steal everything I can. I feel great about it. Fuck the haters.
I came across a PS3 kiosk at Target today. Some kid was playing Motorstorm on it. It looked pretty nice, but nothing that the 360 couldn't handle, and especially nothing like those E3 videos.
