NHL 2K7 vs. NHL 07

Now that both demos are on Xbox live, which one are you guys going to buy?
Personally, I've played both and I realize that I need to have both of them.



I've downloaded both demos and I am torn. NHL 2K7 seems to be a wonderfuly balanced continuation of the series complete with more realistic ice action-i.e., it feels like you actually are on ice and also all the cheesy goals don't seem to work anymore, so it should be lots more fun online.

NHL 07 is more of a mystery. Stick movement assigned to the right-stick is intriguing and could also be the next big thing as far as control is concerned, but EA only gave us a demo that included a shootout, not actual gameplay, so who knows how this control scheme translates to regular play. It also has a more in-depth Franchise mode that includes pretty much everything.

This thread is for all the fans of hockey. Anyone else that wants to talk shit can "Mortal Kombat" and "Your Mom" somewhere else. Besides, if you talk shit on hockey, you must be feigh.

So now starts another season of hockey. What side are you on?

EA gives us a shootout demo because once again, i'm sure the game is a hitfest. i've hated the EA games for the past 8ish years. they are shit. even after you spend an hour tweaking all the settings because *gasp* they can't make a balanced or fun game themselves. so they leave that part up to you.

I just wish they could get the crowd noises right for once. The crowd always seems dead. The rivals feature in 2k7 looks promising. How's the animation in 2k7 ?

I don't have a 360, so I will be getting 2K7 for Xbox since it is only $19.99. I like what EA is doing with the right analog stick, so maybe I can play that over my friend's house!

The EA game does look better but since all you get is a quick couple of seconds who knows. 2k7 seems good IMO. The EA game could go either way. Honestly if your buying a hockey game this year I think either one would make you happy.
If I was buying one this year I think I would try the EA game out this year.

For once, the graphics really did get an overhaul. Animations are alot better, too. You can also change the presentation of the game as well. The default one on the demo doesn't have any color commentary, which struck me as odd. It had "epic" music playing in the background instead. I didn't like it, personally. It seemed like a cheap way to make everything dramatic. I was happy to know that there are 3 forms of presentation, including color commentary, so there was nothing to worry about after all.

I truly think that 2K7 will be the best for playing others online, while EA's 07 will be the better single player game. EA has alot more options in that area. I like the fact that they are trying something different as well.

This is all true. The last great EA Hockey game was NHL 98. After that, they were shit. 99 on the N64 was pretty cool though, too. It was simply a tweaked version of PS1's 98. Commentary was was so bad that it was good.

Last decent EA game was NHL 2002, though I was kinda biased since Lemieux was on the cover(big Penguin fan)

Ever since then, EA has been so out of focus as to what makes a good hockey game, that its been unreal. Throw in some "new" EA TRAX and some new animations along with the annual roster update and voila' a new NHL Game.

They do seem like they are actually trying this year so I'll try it out.

I actually like 97 better, because of the commentary. 98 seemed sort of dead, because of the lack of colorful commentary.
