From the looks of it, Nadeo is merging all of the prior Trackmania games into one, jacking up the visuals, making the community even more integral to the game (how the fuck are they gonna do that, damn), and allowing one track to contain multiple environments. Or adding a ton of blocks, I don't know.

It looks awesome as all hell.

If they still use Starforce, I'm gonna flip the fuck out and unleash the fury on them, 'cause that'd be inexcusable. This is their chance to make me not worry about whether or not I can even play these games in the future.

Yeah, they call it the Media Tracker. You get a big old timeline-style editor where you can set up cameras, move them over time, add all sorts of effects, layer multiple replays, play with time, lay on text, import custom images and music, and so on. Even further, you can use the Media Tracker to make intro fly-throughs that will play back automatically when someone loads up your track, and set up camera angles and effects for replays people see when they finish racing. To top it all off, you can tell the game to frame by frame render a replay over a long period of time on stupidly high detail and export it to an AVI.

It's so far beyond any sort of demo/replay support I've seen in a game. Blew my mind when I realized what all you can do with it.

The level editor itself, despite being grid based, is just as awesome. You can make your own dynamic billboards, for christ's sake.

Not to mention the car painter, or the developers releasing car template models and guides for fan 3d artists to make their own car geometry.

The customization is just nutty.

Yeah, I have to agree with the above, this game could be really popular if they put it on consoles.

Sounds like what I expected. Not a huge amount new outside of mixing environments (omg) and some serious community integration.

That said, Starforce still being used is a gigantic kick in the nuts. I can only hope there will be another publisher to get this game (steam plz), somehow, or that Starforce will not suck by the time TMU is out. I'm just setting myself up for disappointment.

Yeah, so I got the digital download version of this. Copy protection aside, it's pretty awesome. Nice to have everything in one place, especially considering that United is able to read all of the old track data from the previous games.

I'm good with giving an otherwise great game a 0 for Starforce. I mean, I'm not buying it after all, and no force on earth is getting it on my PC, so 0 sounds perfectly reasonable.

The biggest issue is that you are apparently limited to 3 seperate installs before you're required to email the publisher (or some security company, I'm not sure,) to reactivate your CD key. Or something.

It's no Steam, but it still beats CD checks.

To be clear, I'm not sure if the digital version actually has Starforce. I'm checking up on that right now. All I know is that I've had no problems since installing.

From what I can gather, I think the downloadable version is using a lite version of Starforce (ie. no starforce drivers,) which means that it doesn't install any of the crap that interferes with DVD burners. Still not 100% sure, though.

So the Starforce version has been installed on my laptop. Let's see how long it takes before my PC has AIDS.

Buuut, it does use a new version of Starforce. 4.0 or something. Is there any chance SF have cleaned up their act?

Game itself seems to be like I expected. You can't combine blocks from different environments (I think I was expecting too much, there), but rather, the Stadium environment is kind of a mix of the four prior. Definitely vastly changed from TMNations Stadium. And they've apparently added blocks to the TMO environments and the TMS environments, but I haven't seen any yet. I'd comment on the online community stuff if I had actually bought the game.

Also, the interface doesn't look as nice as the ones in the shots above, if you ask me. It's gone from a OS desktop-looking thing to a glass overlaying FMV of races.

Starforce has been totally cracked out of this game. As in, you don't just bypass it now and get the game to start quicker, but you don't need the drivers on your PC at all. So you can pick up all of Trackmania for the price of one game and not worry about SF.

I don't think this ever happened to Sunrise, so this is an awesome surprise.

Don't know if it'll let you go online with the cracked version, though.

"Typical places" carry a crack by Reloaded for the latest patched version of the game. A massive replacement executable for the original that doesn't ask for a disc at all.

www.megagames.com might have it. They only carry cracks ("fixes"), which are more legal than some things I've seen posted in Gaming Discussion.

Also, no clue if 1) Nadeo will patch the game further and 2) if Reloaded will crack whatever updates they add. For Nadeo's previous games, they've released free huge expansion packs. I'm guessing if that happens for United, it'd be cracked, but no guarantee.

I now have Reloaded's patched executable. But I still need to install the game, and won't that automatically install StarForce? Or is there a StarForce-less .iso out there somewhere I need to find?

Starforce installs when you first run the game, not the installer.

Actually, before the game actually runs, it runs the launcher, which will let you update pretty easily. After the update, overwrite the original files.

Assuming you've got the boxed retail version and not that online deal.

And just now, I went back and tried some old tracks that I made from the previous three games, and they all work without conversion or anything. TM Exchange hosts all of the official tracks from the original games (the tracks in United seem mostly new), so if you're an anal completest you can go back and download all of them. The Trackmania United section of TM Exchange should list all the tracks from the old games, though. =/

I've been playing this too, since the Reload solution came out. But I really dont like the 20ish second races in single player.

Generally speaking, Nadeo tracks get longer as the difficulty rises. The problem is that the majority of the United tracks are too easy when compared to the previous games. I just copied all of the old tracks over from TM1/Sunrise/Nations into my downloaded tracks folder.

But honestly, I'm not sure having nothing but 3 minute tracks is a good thing for this game, what with its focus on perfect laps. One fuckup means an instant restart for anyone trying to set a record.

Also, make sure you're going for golds. Fumbling through for bronze medals doesn't give you the opportunity to appreciate the track design.

I can't find a torrent for just the crack that actually has seeds on it. Someone help a brother out.

That's kinda disappointing. I mean, I wouldn't ask for half the tracks to be as hard as Orbital or anything, but there better be some crazy ones down the line.

Just a heads up, this is coming to Steam in a week, for those on the fence because of the copy protection issue.

According to the steampowered store, this version still uses Starforce. I'd assume you can use the same crack to bypass bypass Starforce, just as you could in the other two United releases.

This is out on Steam, it rules, and I can personally confirm that it does not have StarForce drivers.

I highly recommend that everyone who even remotely enjoys arcade racing games + time attack get this RIGHT NOW. I love it so much.

If you're nice, I may even upload the tracks from the old games, since you can easily import them into United.

I picked up the game and dig it. I've always liked TM even though I suck and can't get gold on all the single player stages but whatever really. While my pc gets the majority of the playing time I'm happy that my macbook's ati radeon x1600 mobility runs the game nicely with everything except motion blur turned on @ 1440x900 res.

A port to the 360 would be very nice. But that is something that will never happen. Because all future racing games for the 360 MUST support the FFB wireless wheel. Nadeo, the makers of the TM series, are strongly against using force feedback wheels with this game for some unknown reason. I have pestered and pestered and pestered Florent(one of the guys on the dev team) to please put FFB wheel support for the TM series and he has remained as stubborn as ever, saying the game should be played with a gamepad :rolleyes:

As it stands though, the idea of playing with (mostly) randoms online just isn't appealing at all for this type of game.

I'm not sure if Sony would want Trackmania on PS3 - it's awfully similar to their own Gripshift.

If I know isamu, I'm sure Nadeo are not including FFB just to spite him at this point.

Actually I could see this game being more difficult with a wheel than a pad, but that's no reason not to support it.

The fact that hard drives aren't standard in all 360s, however is the more likely culprit. This game wouldn't work well without an HD for saving and downloading tracks.

Nah. Unless the tracks are made within the 360 version, MS won't allow it. At least that's their current policy. That's why no Oblivion mods, and while UT3 is going to be a bit gimped on the 360. Maybe the latter will force a change, but I won't hold my breath for it.

I don't think you quite understand this series. It's more about competitive time/score attack and content sharing, more than actually playing with your buddies. You can't even interact with other cars when you're playing online.

Looks like a free expansion to Trackmania United will be released on April 15th. There's even going to be a free update to the (already free) Trackmania Nations:

- change the versionnuber to 0.2.0.9
- install now the Update

This keeps fucking dropping out on me 90% through the download and making me start over.

The good:

WHOA INTERFACE. Much better for pad navigation. Lots of great touches. There's something wonderful about seeing your world ranking shift up when you complete a track. Little things like asking you if you wanna challenge the next medal. Really cool.

MORE WHOA INTERFACE. Finally, a Trackmania URL protocol in the official game. tmtp://#score=Tain:DesertA1:17740:A1ABD904 You bitches click that, and you race a ghost of mine.

The old environments do seem to have nice touches. The game's default visual options are higher than I used to use, so it's running worse. Hopefully the new blocks don't slow shit down.

The bad:

Why on earth is this separate from TM United? Why doesn't it overwrite TM United? If I can use my United online account, why don't you just read my United challenges and car skins and shit?

And finally, the same complaint I had with United's relation to earlier games: Why doesn't it include the United campaigns? Annoying.

Wow, lots of new shit. I second what Tain said about how it's silly the United Campaign is missing, but it supports user-made campaigns now, so maybe there'll be a way to import.

The campaign support seems the same as United, unfortunately; all campaign lists are server side and you plot them yourself, so you can't import any old ones.

Well, you can still import all of the old stuff the regular way and just browse to the track listing. That's what I did with Sunrise and Original when I first got United.

And yeah, the interface is 80923608236x better.

Ugh, I think the Steam TMUF install (it's available now) automatically deletes every TMU campaign track. Now, it's easy enough to just re-download them from here: http://united.tm-exchange.com/?actio...mode=1&id=1001 but the track filenames are exactly the same as the track names for the new TMUF campaign. Seems like that may cause problems with autosaved replays (at the very least) because they're automatically overwritten if you play another track with the same filename.

I guess it's not the end of the world.
