I wish he'd learn faster
lol He played pretty well last night. Getting two games off may have refocused him. He's inconsistent as hell though.
Brodeur is incredible. I always try to go see him.
Man, I was waiting for Gonchar to light up the lamp at the end there. It was a real nail-biter. Whats weird is that no matter what, Brodeur always gets respect from even the most die-hard Pens fan. Hope someday that Fleury can achieve that kind of consistency.
I hadn't heard that description. I suspect it described his reputation as being clutch. He is well enough respected for his Olympic and World Cup play that they call him "Captain Canada." He's a tough guy who will go into the areas that some other guys won't too.
I was uneasy that the Devils couldn't get that second goal that would have sealed it.
The crazy thing about Brodeur is that no matter whose broadcast I watch on Center Ice, every announcer thinks the game is over at 1-0. The Penguins announcers last night started talking about shutouts about 5 minutes into the second period and kept praising Brodeur's ability to place rebounds for his teammates all night. That seems to be the norm. I can't think of another active player that gets as much respect universally.
My opinion is that Lemieux was the best forward that ever played, Orr was the best defenseman, and Brodeur is the best goalie. My favorite player when I was younger was Patrick Roy, so that is not a homer statement either.
Did you ever see Mike Bossy play? I hate the Islanders, but he was among the best forwards that I've ever seen.
Brodeur is good, but he's always had a very, very strong defensive team and/or system in front of him. Roy and Hasek come to mind as recent goalies that rival him. I don't know much about Sawchuck and old time goalies, etc... to be able to call anyone "best ever".
Defensemen - Orr was the greatest offensive defensemen of all time without question. I'd rather have Scott Stevens on my team, though.
I have only seen Bossy on highlight videos... honestly Orr is the same way, but he was so amazing that it was enough. I do agree that if I had to pick a guy to be my #1 D, it is Stevens.
As far as the goalies go, in my opinion the defense argument against Brodeur was eliminated when he lost Daneyko, Stevens, and Niedermayer. In less than four months, he'll win a Vezina, and possibly a Hart, without any of those guys around. To me, that's as good as evidence gets. Brian Rafalski is a good defenseman, as is Collin White, but they are nowhere near as strong as the D in Dallas, for instance. It's not like the 2000 team where they led the league in scoring and were loaded from #1-6 on D.
the guys on the Hawks/Avs game last night were saying they see Luongo on the same level as Brodeur and can possibly see either of them (right now) being league MVP.
Luongo has zero chance at the MVP. If voters feel a goalie shouldn't win it, it'll be Crosby. If they feel a goalie can win it, Brodeur is better in every single stat than Luongo.
