Official 2006-2007 NHL Thread

While I am spamming the thread, the only game that mattered yesterday was very well played on both sides.

The Devils had to play with 16 skaters again, because, in addition to Gionta and White still being out, Rasmussen took a puck in the face early on. They'll really be dangerous when they get healthy.

The Sabres are head and shoulders above every other Eastern conference opponent I have watched. I can't comment on the west as well, as I happened to be out of town when teh Devils made that trip, plus they don't play them all anyway.

I'll make this statement now and stick to it in June. If the Sabres or Devils are not representing the east in the Finals, it will be done in 6 or less, and the west will win.

edit: I just looked ahead and saw that Buffalo and Pittsburgh play on Tuesday. I can't decide who to root for in that one, but I don't want to see OT and damned third point handed out.

anyway, VICIOUS hit last night in the Hawks/Coyotes game. can't find a video of it but i believe it was David Koci for the Hawks delivering it. Phoenix guy had NO clue what was coming on the left side of him. Koci glided into him (yet it was a charging call), his shoulders just happened to be head level on the Phoenix guy (he didnt extend the shoulder or anything. the hit almost looked like the Phoenix guy didn't exist) and just freight trained him. Guy on the ice, puddle of blood. I had shades of NHL '94 for the Genny right there. It might possibly be a suspension even though it was completely clean. Hawks had the 5 minute major against them and he was thrown out.

It worries me that the league is going to puss out and penalize clean hits due to all the non-fans whining. I haven't seen the hit you described, but the result is not the issue. If it's clean and the guy dies, that's a shame, but that doesn't make it illegal. I hope logic prevails.

Yeah that's pretty lame.

Although that ranger stick-to-the-face hit on that islander completely deserves a few suspensions.

Simon winds up getting 25 games.

Cam Ward is out of todays game with stitches in his leg around his knee.

25 games is about right, as his history of suspensions came into play.

Fuck Cam Ward and the Hurricanes. Go Toronto for the 8th playoff spot. Montreal is in a free fall, and it would be ok with me if the Hurricanes never win another game that isn't against the Rangers or Flyers.

Yoshi, the guy bled pretty good but was pretty much back on his feet immediately from the Chicago hit. the commentators were liking it to the Simon incident and saying "oh that was vicious.......that will probably go before the board and deserve a suspension". The guy had his head down and wasn't paying attention, and thus a perfectly legal hit "looks" worse and more violent and therefore more "cheap" than if a guy paid attention tot he hit coming.

The good news for him is that he's a Blackhawk. I don't believe for a second that the reasons that Janssen got three games, while Neil got none, and that Simon got the largest ever are that Janssen is a Devil, and Simon is an Islander. Keep in mind that a piece of Ranger shit named Colin Campbell is the ass that decides the punishment.
