I think he's being sarcastic, but he's also infusing it with a more general point about his observations of the world which he is quite proud of and nobody else cares about. Quite standard for buttcheeks rants.

rezo was just saying that a funny person can make jokes about Optimus Prime or James Joyce. of course it depends on his and his audience's knowledge of the subject matter (I know little and care little about both), but the subject matter is ultimately irrelevant. He's right, I think.

Irish people from any time period would get really pissed at you for calling them British. British generally refers to English people, even though Scotland and Northern Ireland are currently part of the UK (I wouldn't recommend calling Scottish people British to their faces either).

Yeah, I don't think Joyce is stuffy in the least. He is however obtuse and complex. If anybody is seriously interested in reading him read Dubliners. Bunch of short stories linked together that are a very interesting read and an excellent introduction to Joyce's themes and style (which gets greatly expandanded in his later works).

I'm funny, and some of you are really just not.

I think it's time we were all honest and admitted it.

Maybe funny, you know, but not funny "ha ha."

You pointed out that I wasn't special for knowing who he was. I agreed but poked a little fun at you because you felt the need to say such a thing. Me not being special for knowing something that everyone who goes to college knows about, kind of goes unsaid, you know?

Joyce really wasn't stuffy, my parody was weak in hindsight. He's just really really hard to follow. Thats the only thing a bit from him, meandering, pointless (seemingly or realistically) musings - one to another.

I know I was laughing while doing it, but I can see how it would have been a pain in the ass for others to have to scroll past, as I am sure every single post I made like that would be far and away the longest in any given thread.

We really will argue anything here, won't we? When I said stuffy, I meant;

5. dull or tedious; boring.
6. self-important; pompous.

but you know, I'm not a J.J. authority. I've only read maybe 3 or 4 things by him, and imo, they came off as either 5 or 6, or some combination of the two.

I apologize to anyone here that is an avid J.J. fan. It's entirely likely that his other stuff is much more enjoyable. I'm not diff, so there is no reason to treat my comments as all inclusive.
